Good points. I forgot that data includes passwords, so losing my vault of random passwords would be worse than losing the $2000 in my bank account. I can always make that back.

In addition to what @stu2b50 said about the hardware, Nintendo also has an edge in software (the games). If you want to play Nintendo games, Nintendo consoles are the only way to do it (besides emulation). The vast majority of current Switch owners have not and will not consider the Steam Deck as an alternative cause you can't (easily) play Mario, Zelda, or Animal Crossing on it.

I'm definitely not as technical as everyone else here, but I use WordPress. It's easy enough for me to use, flexible enough for my use case, and cheaper than Squarespace. My site is a static portfolio. I host on Namecheap's shared hosting plan for $45/year and it works for me because I don't get much traffic.

If you're not a fan of WordPress I still recommend Namecheap as a host cause it's so cheap.

On OnlyFans there is no way to discover new creators, and that is by design. No recommendation algorithm. There is a search box but it is only for finding creators whose names you already know (I assume this is for privacy reasons). So OF models post on places like Reddit or Twitter to promote themselves and try to redirect viewers to their OF profile.

Just to clarify, your comment has a misunderstanding of how AI image generators work. Yes, they need a dataset of images to train off of, but they are not "reassembling" those images into a collage. The exact tech is not something I can properly explain but it's more like the AI is using the dataset as parameters to inform its outputs.

They are "original works" technically speaking. But I wouldn't say the AI has true originality like a human artist does. AI can only synthesize art from previous human works. It's up for debate in the courts whether or not this process is copyright infringement or if it's fair use.

Flying with your jetpack is fun. Using the signalscope and scout launcher handheld feels good. It's the one of the most native-feeling VR mods I've played.

I'm pretty much a doomer in regards to reversing climate change, because obviously there's no way to fix the emissions that have already been caused. But I'd still argue for improving our situation. I'd rather our planet go to 80% or 90% shit instead of 100% shit. That 10-20% less shit is millions of lives that can be saved/improved.

I agree with you in that it's extremely hard to push for change. But I try not to slip into full blown apathy.

I get what you mean, there's something to be said about just going out and shooting spontaneously that can be fun. For me it's like what @oxyacetalyne said, my favorite part of shooting film is the memories that it creates! I've got some memories on my Instagram if anyone's curious. My most recent 3 posts are video projects but the rest is my film photography.

I’m a cinematographer working with digital cinema cameras (I own a Kinefinity Terra 4K) but I do 35mm photography casually. I shoot on a Pentax SF10 because I got it for free from a neighbor many years ago and it works well enough for me to not spend money on something else.

I stopped during the pandemic (cause I wasn’t traveling and spending time with friends, which are my main inspirations for photography) and haven’t gotten back into it. But your post reminded me I should!

This list should last you a year of content binging. It's long so if you can only check out a few, I'd watch Jacob Geller, People Make Games, LEMMiNO, EmpLemon, and Solar Sands.

    Gaming

    Gaming Honorable Mentions

    General Essays/Documentaries

    • Defunctland - Documentaries about extinct theme parks and related entertainment experiences. His video on the Disney Channel Theme is his best, at the very least you should watch that one.
    • LEMMiNO - Fantastic editing and presentation, and the topics he covers are really interesting. Every video is a must watch.
    • EmpLemon - My description for LEMMiNO applies to EmpLemon as well. I recommend his "New Coke" video or either of his NASCAR videos.
    • Solar Sands - Same vein as EmpLemon but with a focus on art.

    General Honorable Mentions

    Niche/Educational

    • Philosophy Tube
    • Some More News - Funny but educational deep dives into current events and what's wrong with our world in general.
    • Climate Town - Entertaining video essays on climate change.
    • JCS Criminal Psychology - Examinations into the psychology of criminals via analysis of interrogation tapes. This guy's videos are so good he created a whole new genre of YouTube content.
    • Coffezilla - Investigating and exposing scams and fraudsters.
    • Not Just Bikes - Videos about good urban planning and European city design, and how North America can take inspiration from Europe to better design its cities.
    • Modern MBA - Examines the business strategies of modern companies. Very educational and good background content while you do other things.
    • Technology Connections - Educational videos on technology (new and old). Explaining how they work, how they may have affected future technological developments, and ways in which they can be improved.

I use a Rains Backpack Mini. It's sleek looking, made of high quality waterproof material, and has just enough space for my 13in laptop, 40oz water bottle, and a couple other cables/tech things. I don't need much space. It also helps that my work gave me it for free.

If you like that sort of look but need more space/pockets they have plenty of other options.

This is opening up a different can of worms, but I'd argue that $1.2 billion would be better spent by the government on climate policy, social programs, etc. instead of letting billionaires like Chouinard be the ones who decide our future, despite any altruistic intentions they may have. I'd recommend watching the video I linked, Adam Conover does a better job arguing this than I can.

To be fair, while Patagonia is one of the better companies to buy clothes from, Yvon Chouinard's ownership change isn't quite as altruistic a move as it seems.

TL;DR: By changing ownership this way instead of giving the company to his kids, Yvon Chouinard avoids paying $1.2 billion in taxes. And while 98% of Patagonia's shares were donated to the HoldFast Foundation (which Chouinard himself founded), the remaining 2% (which are voting shares that control the company) were given to the Patagonia Purpose Trust, which is controlled solely by Chouinard and his family. So they will still retain control of Patagonia. The company might still be good but the ownership change is mostly a marketing move.
