I never played the original, but I did play System Shock 2. I feel like the game's formula could definitely benefit from a fresh coat of paint and the vast improvements in game design since System Shock came out. It didn't exactly age well- which is why I didn't play the first, the 3D was very crude and you could tell it was from another time.

I've talked about this with some friends, and we've all pretty much agreed that a good compromise would be to make shrines four times as rare, but also four times as large and complex, with the end reward being a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel directly.

This would make shrines a better replacement for dungeons than what we ended up getting, and there would be much more room for intricate shrines.

Now that I think of it, another neat thing to do would be to have larger shrines gated behind the amount of Divine Beasts freed. Basic and easy shrines with a single Spirit Orb reward would be initially unlocked, then double size and more challenging with two Spirit Orbs once one Beast is freed, then quadruple size and intricate with four Spirit Orbs once three are freed. That would allow for the basic game to remain nonlinear, but the shrines would naturally ramp up in difficulty as the player progresses- if they choose to, of course.

DNS66 is a non-root alternative as well, however it can't be used in conjunction with a VPN because it uses the VPN API itself. There is a Github issue discussing a workaround that would allow other VPN's to function, but I don't know if it'll get anywhere. It might work with WireGuard if it's not running in userland mode, though.

Nextcloud is another good app and a great alternative to Google Drive, if you're comfortable with hosting your own instance of it.

Fantastic show, and I absolutely agree with their decision to keep it just two seasons. I feel as if it would've dragged on way too much otherwise, and this limitation helped every episode feel fresh.

I need to get around to watching Eastbound and Down, it's in the backlog that I'll probably never clear.

That's pretty close to how Snapchat does it, although it also lets you replay sent Snaps a second time. Snaps sent to your Story can be viewed an infinite amount of times for 24 hours.

I'm holding out for Brave 1.0, which moves the browser to Chromium instead of Muon, before giving it another shot. I tried it a few months ago and I quite liked the browser, but extensions are a must for me.

Falkon is another neat browser that has the same problem (lack of extensions), but it does have GreaseMonkey built in which helps quite a bit.

Like mentioned in the OP, Matrix is more comparable to Discord IMO. The official client, Riot, looks sort of similar to Discord, and it's getting a redesign very soon which looks much closer to Discord. Matrix is fully federated, and the protocol supports end to end encryption across instances as well as voice over VoIP.

    Mumble is quite good, though.

Hi, I'm jerbear64. I'm interested in programming, Linux, music, music production, system hacking/homebrew, video games, and just tech in general.

I am an admin on the Binding of Isaac Discord server, and owner of the Linux Gaming Discord server, both of which are partnered.

I joined Tildes because Reddit at this point is too large and isn't nearly as inviting as it used to be, and (similarly to Digg) the site is trying to become something it isn't. I'd like for Tildes to be a smaller, more tightly woven community, free from the laughable practices and privacy policy of Reddit.

I'm currently playing through Overload, the spiritual successor of the Descent series, and it's nothing short of fantastic. I also continually come back to Freespace 2 and The Binding of Isaac- the former because of the plentiful good user-made campaigns, and the latter because despite all its flaws, I can't help but come back to it.
