What upcoming video games are you looking forward to?
What video games that are coming out soon do you have your eye on?
There's a co-op game for the Switch coming out next year called Rite of Ilk that I think would be fun. I don't have a Switch yet but I'll probably be getting one in a couple months.
Also, still waiting patiently for Miegakure like it was Godot.
I'm excited to watch E3, like a girl at a bar is excited to take a guy home: I know ill be disappointed but the new stuff looks so pretty.
Expecting the announcement of a release date for Death Stranding. I am really really hoping there will be new information about Cyberpunk 2077. I just finished Witcher 3 and boy did it live up to everyone's praise.
I always look forward to E3 every year, even when I know it won't meet my expectations, just because it's so fun to react to nice-looking game trailers and announcements with my friends.
Ghost of Tsushima
A samurai open world game that's looks beautiful that is made by Sucker Punch and sponsored by Sony, so single player is king?
Yes please.
Yeah, having one with dungeons would be great! I loved BotW but not having the classic dungeons was definitely something I missed.
Wait, what? BOTW doesn't have the dungeons that have been the set pieces of every Zelda game so far?
What the hell?
BotW essentially has four mini-dungeons and 120 micro-dungeons. It's completely non-linear, though: all four mini-dungeons are about the same difficulty, you can do them at any time.
The overworld is also much larger and pretty much seamless. The end result is a game that's a lot more "make your own adventure" than previous Zelda titles, and it would be hard to fit large, linear dungeons in that framework.
I've talked about this with some friends, and we've all pretty much agreed that a good compromise would be to make shrines four times as rare, but also four times as large and complex, with the end reward being a Heart Container or Stamina Vessel directly.
This would make shrines a better replacement for dungeons than what we ended up getting, and there would be much more room for intricate shrines.
Now that I think of it, another neat thing to do would be to have larger shrines gated behind the amount of Divine Beasts freed. Basic and easy shrines with a single Spirit Orb reward would be initially unlocked, then double size and more challenging with two Spirit Orbs once one Beast is freed, then quadruple size and intricate with four Spirit Orbs once three are freed. That would allow for the basic game to remain nonlinear, but the shrines would naturally ramp up in difficulty as the player progresses- if they choose to, of course.
I heard that they added a dungeon with the DLC, but no, the main game doesn't have any dungeons. There are 120 shrines littered all over the world, and they each have a puzzle or two. And there are four Divine Beasts that you calm by fixing things in them, but they're very small and not puzzle-based.
The game was incredible, don't get me wrong! It just didn't feel Zelda-ish with the lack of the "dungeon" staple.
Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost of Tsushima, Identity, Fallout 76, Last of Us 2.
Spider-Man and Red Dead 2. I'm in a holding pattern until later this year.
Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us 2 and the Spyro Remastered Trilogy are my main focuses for sure, tho I have such a backlog it's getting worse every year to pick out some contenders lol, esp. some amazing indie titles!
I really hope RDR 2 is released for PC. I never got to play the original since I don't own a console and I really want to play the second.
Absolutely! I would love everyone to share these experiences, even if I just game on Sony consoles. Plus the extra graphical settings you can get with good ports.
Spyro remastered! Yes!
Graveyard Keeper - An almost lovecraftian version of Stardew Valley, coming out this August. So far lots of fun but rough around the edges.
Osiris: New Dawn & Astroneer - Played a bit of the both in EA, they lacked depth but were fun enough. Hoping their exit Early Access hell as well as RimWorld did and not like Ark.
Octopath Traveler on Switch. Really liked what I saw in the demo. I'm wondering how complex the puzzles get when you have all 8 different characters that you can swap in and out of the party to use their unique skills. It could be the most amazing thing or it could end up tedious.
I know it's so far away and will probably not meet all the unrealistic expectations but I am so beyond excited for the FF7 remake. I know the original gets a lot of hype but I played that game at the perfect time in my life. It really showed me that games could be an art form at an early age. More realistic and short term Spyro remake and Spider-Man. I hadn't been playing games much in the past year but blew through God of War and Detroit: Become Human recently and am back on board very excited for the summer/fall releases.
Overcooked 2 - Looks to be coming out (leaked E3 slide of Switch games) which is one of the few games my non-gaming significant other doesn't mind playing. I'm excited if it's just an addition of the first game or a whole new game with added gameplay features.
Jurassic World Evolution - This is just around the corner. It looks like it'll be a lot of fun, I hope it has the depth to match. I never played the console version, but many people apparently loved it way back when.
RDR2 - Really hoping this comes to PC. I can see it being like another GTA V situation where it's released months later. The first RDR holds a dear place in gaming memories.
It won't be coming out for a while but Imperator: Rome
Two Metroidvanias on my end.
I'm excited for Hollow Knight to come out on Switch. I know I'd have much more fun playing it portably, so I've been patiently waiting for a port. Apparently it's very close to release, so not too much waiting now.
The other is Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. I'm a massive fan of Castlevania, so I'm very excited about its spiritual successor. I am a little sad that it's in 2.5D, though. I loved the companion game that's already out - Curse of the Moon. It's a clear love letter to Castlevania fans.
Idk about you guys, but I am absolutely ready for Spyro Reignited Trilogy.
I would have to say Battlefield V, Cyberpunk 2077, and Imperator: Rome.
System Shock 3. With Warren Spector, who worked on the original Deus Ex leading development. My favorite developer ever working on my second most favorite franchise ever. I couldn't have wished for something better.
Have you played the new Prey? I keep hearing it's basically System Shock in spirit. If you've played it, are you hoping for more of the same?
Unfortunately I haven't gotten around to playing Prey but definitely enjoyed System Shock 2 years ago. Although I think I got stuck at one point, ran out of ammo or something, and never finished it.
I've seen a walk-through of it on YouTube. I don't know... For whatever reason I don't think the magic is there with Prey. Like it's too slick and doesn't have a soul to it.
I was about to mention System Shock, but looks like someone already did!
I never played the original, but I did play System Shock 2. I feel like the game's formula could definitely benefit from a fresh coat of paint and the vast improvements in game design since System Shock came out. It didn't exactly age well- which is why I didn't play the first, the 3D was very crude and you could tell it was from another time.
Octopath Traveler, Mario Tennis Aces, Spider-Man PS4, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and FF7 Remake.
You can already preorder MW4 at Gamestop, so I don't think that's in question.
Really? I must not have checked r/CallOfDuty in a while.
Team Sonic Racing, Kingdom Hearts 3, and Smash 5 mostly.
As someone who plays a lot of Melee, I'm ready to be disappointed in Smash 5.
Blizzard just tells us they're working on a new Diablo project. I think they have the power to make what as made D2 such a legendary title since they seem to really listen to the community now as opposed to when D3 was released, I recall around that time, they try that whole real Id stuff on their forum which causes them a lot of backlashes.
I'm a horror fan, and there hasn't really been any movies to spook me up lately (looking forward to Suspiria and Hereditary though), so I look forward to the horror titles... unfortunately none of the ones I'm really looking forward to have a release date:
...I swear there was one more PT-esque successor, but its name escapes me right now.
Of course I'm also looking forward to The Last of Us 2 and Days Gone, but the ones above were the slightly lesser known titles.
The new spiderman game coming in September looks amazing. Its Ps4 though so kinda sucks for xbox users.
I have no current generation consoles. I'm mainly a PC gamer.
Islands of Nyne
Not excited about it being early access and I have plenty of concern over their inability to announce an actual release date. I am hopeful, but I won't hold my breathe. I love the battle royale concept, but thus far no one has got the gunplay 'right' for my tastes. PUBG has been my favorite. There's obviously a lot of things wrong with it and yet I have a couple hundred hours in the game. If someone can make a first person battle royale with quality gunplay that's actually well optimized, I will be so happy...
Metro: Exodus
I've been a huge fan of the series since the original installments and I can't wait to see how they translate their world into an open sandbox. I am hesitant but 4A has done some amazing things so I have hope.
Looking forward to reveals/gameplay of Starfield, Borderlands 3, Cyberpunk 2077, the new Smash Bros, and Ghost of Tsushima.
I also hate to say it but Anthem looked incredible last year. I may have to suck it up and buy from EA... if they've not mucked it all up with bullcrap microtransactions. New info on it this e3 should help me decide
I'm super looking forward to Budget Cuts. It's coming out soon.
As for big games, I'm curious about E3, of course.
I've bought my first console in ages with the Switch, last year, and my biggest hope is Pikmin 4, oddly enough, but I know that's just wishful thinking. I'd honestly be happy with some HD remakes (Pikmin trilogy, Metroid trilogy, Mario Maker port...) since I haven't owned a Nintendo console between the N64 and the Switch.
I want to see whether Red Dead Redemption 2 singleplayer will be bearable in terms of microtransaction density (I fear it will not). Also mildly curious about any big Bethesda reveals (Starfield?) and Cyberpunk 2077.
In terms of indies, there's a few I've been looking forward to for ages which might finally drop in 2018. Miegakure, Manifold Garden... fingers crossed!
Very keen to see the new Prey 2017 DLC, hoping that it provides some new story content and enemy types. Also looking forward to hopefully seeing some gameplay for the new fromsoft game, very interested on either seeing what twist they're gonna add to the soulslike formula or whatever they've got planned.
