Any of you guys ever watch it? It had its 20th anniversary two months ago and I was surprised to find out how many people hadn't heard of it, even in my group of weebish friends. It's definitely strange, but it's also really exciting to try and figure things out or anticipate what happens next when you're watching. It has a weird mix of mystery and philosophy that's paced slowly but keeps you invested. It's pretty hard to explain in a meaningful way.

Maybe some of you haven't been exposed to it yet, or haven't given it a shot. If you have the time, check it out--even if you're not a huge anime fan. Given how diverse the front page of Tildes is, you may be just that until you get hooked on Lain.

    2. Recommend a show based on a person's Anime List

Quite a simple concept I've seen done on a multitude of anime forums and communities that I feel would fin in great on Tildes. I'm very excited ~anime is finally a thing and we can start filling it with more casual topics and get to know the fellow weeb Tildoos better.

So the idea is pretty straight forward. You create a new comment branch by posting a link to your Anime List (be it MAL, Kitsune, AL or whatever else) and people who are interested are going to look through it and try to recommend something you might enjoy but haven't seen yet. The hope is, people who get replies on their posts can sort of "pay it forward" and reply to some of the other comments.

But more than anything else, let's have some fun with this. I'm relatively free today so I'll try to look through as many as I can! :)

My favorite genre right now is probably the slice of life genre. i've recently finished 3-Gatsu no Lion, and i gotta say for an anime about shougi it hit me hard i may or may not have teared up on a few occasions... my favorite from the genre though is probably Clannad: After Story, now this one really made me cry, they break the floodgates and keep rescheduling repairs. so i have to recommend those two if you're looking for great slice of life anime.

Just wanted to start talking about anime in general see what people like, share some of our favourite titles and such. I propose we link to MAL or AniList since Tildes doesn't necessarily have a bot that would do that automatically. I'll start!

      • Shaman King was probably one of the first anime I watched alongside Pokemon back before I knew what anime was. It's a very nostalgic show for me and the english opening still gives me shivers.
      • Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is something I've gotten to appreciate much more since I watched it later down the line when rediscovering anime for myself and starting to really get into it. It's one of the highest rated shows on MAL and it definitely deserves every bit of praise it gets.
      • Spirited Away and The Wind Rises. If we are talking movies, these two would probably be my picks. The former brings forward very nostalgic memories and the latter I happened to see in the theaters and I loved every second of it. I feel like most of Miyazaki's works are going to end up on a lot of people's favourites lists.

I'd love to discuss each one deeper if people are into it but I want everyone to feel free and share as much as they'd like, including personal stories and anecdotes.

edit: Amazed to see so many people sharing their favourite shows in detail, and also glad that there are so many people on tildes who share one of my favourite pastimes. :)
