Questions for ~books on self promotion
Random question. What do the wonderful people of Tildes think about self promotion here? My wife is an indie author. As a proud and supportive husband, if I posted about her new book here is that fine or in poor taste? I searched but nothing came up, which made me assume I just wasn't searching correctly. But maybe no one has asked before?
So I would love to know/hear everyone's opinions.
Generally speaking, as long as it's not all you post about, nobody cares.
This, a single post about a book from a Tilderinianite's spouse, super cool.
Repeated updates and active "promotion", annoying.
That's fair. Please let me know if I ever get that annoying.
Several people on Tildes have shared their own works. Recently there was one person who shared a webcomic they made and another who shared an illustrated historical fiction short story collection they made. As the other comments said, if you're an existing user who posts about stuff besides the book, you're good!
I saw those and didn't think of that. Makes sense, thank you.
Echoing what others here have already said; Occasional self-promotion posts are fine so long as you're an active community member behaving in good faith. And that's official policy too, BTW:

My wife has been slowly working on self-publishing for years, when she's finally ready to release I will absolutely spread word everywhere I can. Please share your wife's work!
Cool, will do when her next book launches!
I’d love to read it.
Well that's cool. I don't know how to easily get it to you.
You can pre-order the ebook here. I guess Amazon doesn't let indie authors collect preorders for paper backs for some reason. Her books are also available on Kindle Unlimited.
Should you find yourself in Hamilton, ON, I can also just physically hand you a copy.
Or I guess just wait for my post since it seems like everyone is cool with it.
No need to get it to me! I have no qualms with buying a copy myself. Romance novels aren't usually my reading lane, but I love the idea of supporting indie authors, especially those that are married to awesome Tildes members!
(Plus, sometimes I genuinely AM in the mood to swoon over a retired rugby player. XD)
Yeah, romance isn't my jam either, but it's her fifth book and I think her best. I have read all her books, so I have read exactly five romances. If you choose to support her, then I greatly appreciate it, but definitely no pressure there. Her new book has more than doubled any of her previous books in pre-orders so I am enjoying her excitement and constant updates as she watches the pre-orders grow!
I’m one of those pre-orders. 😁
Well you are an awesome person and your support is greatly appreciated! I hope you end up enjoying it!
Ordered from the US because similarly it's fun to support folks and I don't mind a romance now and then either
Great, that's super nice of you! I agree, although for me that usually means indie games or local small businesses. Regardless, I hope you like it!
Authors count too! :)
Absolutely, I'm just a bad reader! I also knew absolutely nothing about authors until my wife became one.
As someone who's promoting his own wife's self-published books (as an otherwise successful midlist author) as of 4 weeks ago: I don't think it's a sin as long as you don't abuse it but I legit think it won't move the needle here specifically. It's up to SEO and marketing.
Oh definitely. I love Tildes but I can't imagine there is a huge book romance audience here. I'm just proud of my wife and want to share the cool things she makes.
