what a joyful silly idea. i have caps remapped to esc and i feel like globally synced escapes from insert mode to normal mode could be even more demonic 😅

It looks like the situation reverses occasionally. I looked at the capslock state for a while and at times it gets a lot more chaotic, toggling on and off very quickly, but right now it looks like if anything there is a bot keeping it off as much as possible (or there were never any bots and we're just looking at the quirksof an imperfect client.
Though if automation is involved, I guess the next step is people leveraging it to communicate somehow. Global Capslock-enabled Morse code, anyone?

It was a very wholesome but also fascinating thing!
Since seeing this thread I looked into Nolen's other projects a bit and find it very inspiring. I don't know what it is, but I love the idea of creating artistic, communal projects.

Clearly it's time to ask the Wayland maintainers to implement the global capslock protocol.

Disastrous with vim’s modal nature!
Very cool and very dangerous.
Well this absolutely made me chuckle. Very fun readme in the GitHub.
At a quick glance, it seems like someone has already ruined this idea with botting. It seems to be essentially forced on.
I looked at the websocket and I agree. Every time someone turns it off it's back up within 0.1-0.3 seconds.

Yep, he talks about that for sure :) so awesome.
Here is his writeup of the same https://eieio.games/blog/the-secret-inside-one-million-checkboxes/
That is delightful, thanks for sharing!

This seems to have really picked up some traction now. Up to 430ish users compared to 10 when I checked a few hours ago.

Remapping the global caps lock to escape and waiting for my computer to crash
Using Caps Lock instead of shift I imagine would supremely fuck other people up… myself as well.
I may or may not have learned to type "wrong" and instinctively use Capslock instead of Shift when typing capital letters...
