Okay, hear me out on this: when making box mac and cheese, replace the milk and butter with a half cup of plain yogurt (full fat or low fat; either one works). It makes the dish creamier, improves the flavor (tangy!), and reduces the calories. An all out triple threat!

I know that on paper this sounds like one of those fully fake viral TikTok lifehacks, but I'll throw the weight of whatever reputation I have around here behind it. I've been very busy recently, and this has been an effortless and satisfying lazy go-to meal.

You can substitute greek yogurt in for a lot of stuff like this, even baking! Anything that calls for butter/milk/cream/sour cream you can use greek yogurt quite easily either wholly or partially.

But is this also one of those TikTok lifehacks? I'm game to try it, I like my cheese sharp.

No idea! I’m not on TikTok and only hear about what’s on it from my students. My source for this was the back of a box of Annie’s.

Yesterday for supper I got some Chinese food from a local place, unfortunately they got my order wrong and I got bean sprouts instead of pork ribs. I never had bean sprouts before, it was pretty good.

Your takeaway from the second paragraph is such a great perspective on life. Glad you enjoyed the bean sprouts!

I finally submitted to a pandemic cliché and made a damn loaf of bread. Followed this recipe, except that I replaced the baker's dry milk (never even heard of this stuff, before) with the same amount of soy milk. Came out pretty good. Only problem is that it's a whole-ass loaf sans preservatives and it's only lil' ol' me here throughout the week... so... guess I'll be eating toast for breakfast and sandwiches for lunch/dinner until I run through it.

Ah, yea... that's a good option. Well, should I bake another loaf sometime in the future, at least. Toast for breakfast, a sandwich for lunch, a sandwich for dinner, and a couple of slices as a snack throughout the day has left me with about a third of the loaf left... which, I'm guessing I'll finish by tomorrow. Though, to be honest... I'm not entirely looking forward to. I love bread, but I don't usually eat this many carbs in a single day. Feeling pretty bread-ed out!

I did the same a while ago, I couldn’t bring myself to get knee deep into sourdough so I kept trying out different yeast packet recipes. I came across this King Arthur recipe and it was perfect. Very good bread and very easy to make. I haven’t bought bread in a long time. There’s nothing wrong with dividing the recipe in half, and using half a packet of yeast.

I’ve been getting into smoking meats lately. I purchased a charcoal smoker. I’ve done some pork butt and steaks, I’m looking forward to tackling a brisket soon.

If your smoker is large enough, try smoking a whole turkey in it. It’s one of my favourite ways to eat turkey. Just make sure you brine it the day before.

My brothers, sister in law, and I went to Galco's in Highland Park (Los Angeles). I'll run through some stuff I got:

Club-Mate and it was... horrible. I was curious about it after regularly consuming yerba mate, and this soda tastes exactly like this instant mate I bought on sale a while ago. Kinda sour, and like aged leaves (yerba mate is aged, so that's probably part of it). I'll stick to dried leaves or cans myself.

Cafello Espresso Coffee Soda. There's something about coffee sodas that feels kinda wrong, but this is pretty good despite that. It needs to be drank cold.

Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Urbock a smoked German urbock. It was probably one of the best beers I've ever had. Rich, malty, smoky, a bit bitter (but not too much). My brother told me about one they make that's uses oak smoke instead (look for a green label, it's a doppelbock) that I'll have to find somehow.

Ribe Mjod, a potent 19% ABV mead with apple. They bought it there, but I'd had it the day before. I had a bit too much as my sister in law was topping off my glass whenever I walked away (my brother can't drink it because of his pollen allergy, and she's not too into it), and I could probably drink this stuff all day, even as strong as it is.

They taste pretty good. I’ve tried the Cola and the Grape flavors. Cola tastes like Diet Pepsi essentially, but the Grape tastes like normal Grape soda. A little bit of a diet hint but still pretty impressive. It’s also cool how the liquid is completely clear.

Last Friday I exchanged some croissants for peppers and spices from my friend's garden. Over the past week I brined and fermented a bunch of habaneros. Today I blended and combined them with some apricot jam to make my first hot sauce. I gotta say it's delicious! A lot of capsacin must have gotten on me in the process because my last hot shower was surprisingly painful.
