I'm gonna miss hearing that iconic guitar music at the start of every video... but I'm really glad to see Yahtzee and The Escapist video production crew have managed to so swiftly migrate to their own independent channel, and start producing new videos. 193K subscribers on day 1 is pretty damn impressive too! So, good for them, fuck Escapist, and I look forward to seeing what else Yahtzee et al. have in store for Second Wind.

I would've missed the old gremlins but I am HELLA on board for the dogs, they're adorable.

Second Wind posted the theme as its own video. Looks like it was composed by James Elsey, who had previously done work for The Escapist.

I'm hearing very mixed reviews on AW2 but Yahtzee was the first to mention that they threw out American Nightmare! I would normally make a point of supporting Remedy but my PC has not been set up for the last month and I've just been using my Steam Deck for any PC gaming needs. I know that Heroic exists but no sense rushing especially considering the system requirements.

Interesting, I feel like I've heard nothing but praise since the game released. Getting a GOTY nomination at TGA also seems like a pretty big win given how stacked this year has been.

Gmanlives and Yahtzee both had some strong criticism of the game and, as much as I love the cryptic King-isms of the first game, after American Nightmare and the Control DLC I was cautiously optimistic for AW2 but didn't know where the story might go. Yahtzee sure implied that it wasn't a very satisfying ending but Control's ending sucked and that was still a great game.

Basically, I'm sure it's good but all the GOTY hype sounds more like a marketing ploy than anything else.

Incidentally, Gmanlives and Yahtzee are both critics that I personally don't put a lot of stock in. Gman for his history of questionable takes, and Yahtzee because his schtick seems to be that he hates just about anything that isn't an artsy indie game or a soulsborne. To me, the fact that Yahtzee was more positive than negative about AW2 comes off as a glowing recommendation.

Sounds to me like you don't watch Yahtzee much. I can expect that he might come off that way to people who don't watch his show much, and he very much used to be far harsher than he is today – any review before, say, 2012 spent a lot more time cracking jokes at a games expense or insulting it – but he's demonstrated on many occasions that his views are very nuanced and there are a great many things he appreciates about a great many games.

Don't let the sardonic humor fool you into thinking he hates something; it's part of the format. If he truly hates a game, it won't be ambiguous. As far as positivity goes from Yahtzee, this review's recommendation is relatively mild, if you ask me.

Also tbh unless your definition for "artsy" is particularly broad, I'm not even sure that maps well onto his taste in indie games. Like, he criticizes AAA titles constantly but he's also quite critical of many indie titles, especially ones that lean too hard into being "artsy".

That said I'm an indie game person so I'm biased because his reviews on that front tend to be good recs for games I'll like.

The iconic music and the lack of yellow were jarring, but I'm sure we'll get used to it. I liked some of the other new colors more than the red, it'll be fun to see where he goes style-wise as well.

I'm glad red wasn't the only color, as while I suspect I might get used to such it still feels a tad offputting by comparison. The color-switching is a neat concept but I worry it might get distracting; personally, I think the biege color you see at the very start of the intro would be a particularly good one to settle on, if one were to be picked.

Overall though, I think I can grow to like most of the design changes — the new intro especially is wonderful. Only thing that truly bothers me is the weird boggle-eyed look every character besides Yahtz and the dogs are given. Makes them look like they just got to the peak of a wild drug high.

I think that might have been specific to this episode's topic, but I suppose we'll see next week.
