One of my favorite games. I’ve been overall enjoying this faithful remake in the tactician difficulty. A vanilla adaptation of this game is going to be solid given how well the original has aged.
I do have gripes about the remake. There were a lot of balance opportunities that weren’t acted on. It’s baffling to me that they left out WotL content, and if anything adding a few more tidbits in the same vein would have been welcome additions.
The voice acting has its moments both ways. Sometimes it falls flat, and the overall all pacing in dialog is slow as the game rests on speech bubbles before playing the next line with auto-play on.

Edit: 1,000 of deaths per year. Way higher than I would have thought. So intentional strikes is probably only a blip in the total numbers. Wild.

- There’s no licensing, registration or insurance requirements. While it’s nice to be able to hop on a bike and start riding, it seems like even the most basic regulations could help keep bike lanes limited to approved vehicles and riders. I saw a lot of throttle e-bikes and even the occasional gas powered mini-bikes.
- Bike lanes are still really narrow and don’t allow for safe passing. There’s nothing more terrifying then getting passed on both sides on a narrow stretch.
- Bikes by default don’t have break lights. They definitely don’t have turn signals, and it’s not always possible to hand signal.
- Riders are not consistent about indicating they’re about to pass you and from which side. There’s also only one bell type, so no way of indicating you’re approaching, about to pass and about to eat pavement.
- Most riders operate between pedestrian and car rules, whichever suits them at a given moment. So they’ll blow through red lights, switch between road lanes, bikes lanes and sidewalks.
- There are still absolute dullards that ride head on into traffic. Nail board brain idiots that cannot comprehend any sense of danger, they have no right to breathe the same air as intelligent life, never mind riding a bicycle towards traffic.
- Riding clubs that move in massive packs. Often 4+ bikes wide, overlapping front to back and moving at high speeds. They do not stop for red lights, they do not respect anyone else on the road. It’s like a swarm of bees and they’ll run anyone and everyone off the road.
- GPS apps do not have a view (as far as I know) that only show bike routes. So it’s hard to tell what is a road wouldn’t want to ride down and what is a pedestrian path I’m not allowed to ride down. It’s also hard to tell if riding one block over would be a safer route. There’s not much in the way of road markings and signage that would help with this issue either.
- Everyone has tunnel vision. Cars have massive blind spots, pedestrians have to have their head on a swivel anytime they even think about stepping out of the sidewalk, and cyclists can’t even turn their head without risk of instantly crashing. Bicyclists and even see what’s behind them, so deviating from whatever line they’re following or changing lanes is throwing chance to the wind.
- Rental bikes don’t have speed-o-meters and phone mounts.

The big game changer for me is packing my bed pillows. There’s always ample room in a checked bag and they make a huge difference on sleep quality.
It’s the complete opposite of minimalist travel, but I travel for work often and I find this strategy is the best balance of comfort and convenience.

Performance pending it could lead to a sequel, or prequel. But that’s half life 3 territory.

No ear pressure like in ears and generally feel more grounded to what’s happening around me. Fine for going out and being around people. Terrible if you’re looking for noise cancellation or good sound quality. I prefer them for phone calls.
I think they’re fine for their intended use. Obviously bad for things like airplanes. You can wear ear plugs and they’ll still work if you really want to stretch your dollar.

I’ll acknowledge there’s a lot of contention in the community into this game’s implementation. A lot of the same complaints and counterpoints as always (net coding, gnasher tuning) that have always plagued the series.
I do want to call out that it’s always disappointing to me that the series largely abandoned the horror and design styling that made the first game seem grim and personal. The washed out color palette draws a lot of criticism, but other elements are missing: atmospheric distortion (foggy haze on distance objects), high contrast and intense shadows, motion blur, rain and weather effects. Sound design isn’t as bassy and full and lack of screen splatter makes the chainsaw feel like a loony toons weapon—which is made worse as multiplayer tuning causes the player to get staggered if a bullet so much as grazes the air around them.
Overall it’s still a positive pvp experience that plays much better than the original in terms of minimizing host advantage and gaps in ping. There’s still a lot to gripe about, but when gameplay focuses on intense CQC battles that come down to milliseconds reactions, there’s probably not much more that can be done to solve that problem.

Double-ly so because if the car couldn’t safely pull out of a driveway—which involves slopes, turning and gravel—then what use is the car for daily driving?
I’ve always wanted to have a second set of winter/snow tires. Maybe one day when I’m older, but for now quality all seasons will have to do.

I knew somebody that got pulled over in Michigan for not moving over while in the left lane. It’s one of the most satisfying things to hear that actually happened. I doubt it happens often, but I know it happened at least once.
