I didn’t think much of tires until I had a performance vehicle. Then it’s apparent that no matter much power the engine puts down, it doesn’t matter if the tires are spinning. Double-ly so because if the car couldn’t safely pull out of a driveway—which involves slopes, turning and gravel—then what use is the car for daily driving?

I’ve always wanted to have a second set of winter/snow tires. Maybe one day when I’m older, but for now quality all seasons will have to do.

Map the Mission Control function to a mouse button. Massively improved my ability to switch between windows.

A clipboard manager. Not Mac specific but it’s nice to be able to grab anything from my clipboard history.

I did not like any of the dock replacements and windows task bar like solutions out there. The Mac Dock does some funky stuff that third parties can’t mod effectively around. Multi-monitor SETI’s further complicate things.

AltTab is less useful than windows alt tab because Mission Control is more fluid. However it will make it easier to find windows that have gone totally missing or orphaned themselves in a different space.

Rectangle so that I can actually maximize windows. It also makes it easier to move windows across monitors and do 50/50 splits (or 66/33).

I have an iPad that I also sidecar with. Basically an additional monitor.

I’d love to see these spaces feature more indoor interest like aquariums, greenhouses and fountains. The other piece is being able to support local small business instead of endless chain clothing stores.

I used a wienerschnitzel inspired recipe to make pan fried chicken strips that was somehow picky eater friendly. I bought thin sliced chicken breast and dry brined for an hour then removed excess moisture. The batter was ground panko, Parmesan and potato starch plus seasonings. For this one I used oregano, onion and garlic powder, celery seeds, smoked paprika and rainbow pepper.

For adding the batter I just used an egg bath then the batter mixture. I didn’t bother to dip in flour before the eggs, it seems the batter in the final product actually sticks to the food better instead of flaking off.

The combination of thin strips and being able to pan fry made this a much easier method than deep frying tenderloins in a wok. No issues with them drying out, and my kids actually ate a bunch of them.

It has held up flawlessly, the graphical styling of the game is rooted enough in 2D pixel art that visually it aged more like Super Metroid than Metal Gear Solid.

Game balance can be a bit wonky, but the player can mitigate it by not over or under leveling the party. Obviously a party stacked with Ninjas, Calculators or a handful of other broken class combinations will trivialize all encounters. Enemy Chocobos are ridiculous but it is nice that the game does have serious threats to the player. Wiegraf will always be a legendary fight in the series because he could soft lock the player.

The game is coded in a way that much of the mechanics can be represented in an Excel spreadsheet. This has made the game super moddable.

Really focus on ease of maintenance:

    • Mulch.
    • Make sure you’re not mowing grass into your garden beds. Raise the height if you need to or make repairs. Thick 2” board and as high as you can stand to go.
    • Make sure you can easily get a hose and water to where you need to water plants. You will likely need to water daily and if it’s difficult you’ll miss a few days and kill your yields or the garden entirely.
    • Mulch!
    • Seriously, mulch! Reduces weed growth, reduces evaporations, makes it easier to work your plants without getting covered in dirt, makes setting up next year easier, doesn’t blow around, doesn’t disintegrate like weed block does.
    • Never use rocks. This is more a lawn care and patio thing but anywhere there’s gaps dirt will blown in and weeds will grow. Being able to mow over something is the lowest cost and lowest maintenance way to keep pathways clear. Everything else erodes and now instead of tending your garden you’re stuck dealing lawn care.
    • Grass is a pain in the ass outside of the lawn, mulch, edging and raised beds will keep it bay. Grass is really hard to pull up by hand and once it gets its roots in then the nightmare begins.
    • Herbs and flowers are the easiest to grow. Tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and peas are crazy easy as well.
    • Don’t be ashamed to buy the pregrown starter plants just to get a head start in your garden. Worry about seeds next year.
    • Get cages for the tomatoes, then plan to do some frozen jars of sauce at the end of the season. I think tomatoes are the best for learning because there’s so many helpful tricks that make sense as the season goes on and there’s a lot of written material.
    • There’s a lot of plants that feel like a total scam or have massive gotchas that honestly only trying things out and being willing to go scorched earth is the best way to get first hand experience. For example, strawberries get raided by every slug, bug, squirrel and bird. Raspberries will absolutely take over a 10foot radius of everything each year, but yields but yikes. Trees are temperamental and yeah big chonky roots are a problem. Remember you can mow things over in the fall when everything is dried up and dead then tarp it over to kill anything.

I’ve thought about creating a deshittified dating app as well. There’s a difficult balance in designing an app that balances forming genuine connections and safety. Never mind how to scale an app that’s jammed with intimately personally identifiable information.

Another is trying to educate users how to approach dating. I’ve see enough Reddit threads about people bombing women with match requests to know dating culture is busted. And, well, educating users…

The final and most difficult thing is getting users to pay to use a dating app. Nobody will pay to use an app with no users and an ad supported app will be forced to enshittify to generate any reasonable amount of revenue for development.

I really like photo books. Easier to manage, handle and you can get much more dynamic with photo arrangements. Once again, check for promos.

I wouldn’t stress about quality. For digital photos everyone is using inkjet printers. Archivable paper is the non-yellowing variety if you want to get extra about anything.
