ChatGPT will show sources for their search now
If you're using the ChatGPT paid version, when you search, it acts similarly to Perplexity now. It gives you sources of all the pages from which it retrieved the information.
I wonder how they taught the AI to catalogue it's sources, it was my understanding it was completely incapable of finding a reference due to the way it learned the data.
The search function uses bing, and the AI will read through the results. When it finds the relevant data, it will quote it and source it. It's not referencing its training data.
I've been using Perplexity which is basically an AI service but focused on search, and it's been changing how I do searches. It doesn't substitute a proper deep dive if you need to do one, but it gives you a quick summary about whatever you are searching, with no hallucinations (in my experience at least)
Wow, it's actively querying for searches now? That seems like a ton of traffic.
I think Bing is the go to for having an API for search so I assume it can handle it.
sorry for my ignorance, but did it not do that before ? I've only ever used the free version. I did get access to GPT-4o today and the web search along with it. but imo the quality is still not quite the same as perplexity.
Yeah, I just did a "deep dive" on a topic with 4o and it kept just repeating the same not-quite correct simplified explanation, even when I pressed it into giving the full explanation in the same answer. Perplexity got it in two (one to start it off and then one to answer properly when I pushed back).
it did not, that was the big selling point of Phind for a while
It's a shame that it doesn't do it for the free version. That would allow a person to check it's results and see if it's hallucinating and how reliable it's opinions are. I recently tried out Microsoft's Copilot and even though I didn't particularly like it overall, it did cite sources and I really appreciated that feature.
I'm on the free version and it does show sources for me, note that you need to have access to GPT-4o to be able to use the web search
