i noticed that typo on another page so i had a check and looks like that typo is repeated a whopping 9 times. so i assume someone got a little too efficient with copy and pasting lol

Sweet! They did a good job on the OS, even creating something that now is something somebody could live their entire life on almost (not a position I held even six months ago having used my Deck as a desktop occasionally). Seeing it enter a market of handhelds (with the recent $450 Steam Deck 512GB price I found) could broaden the PC market and bring Valve the console success they've always wanted, while keeping the market open to hardware competition.

The addition of Distrobox in the OS image is probably the biggest one, allowing for the addition of mutalbe OS images, bypassing many of the restrictions of SteamOS (permissions tweaks to change the system, losing these changes to image updates). It's not as flexible an OS as something not designed for a specific appliance, so if you need Nvidia drivers you'd be out but it should be viable on any AMD or Intel hardware (but Bazzite has more or less the same OOTB experience, except for desktop mode being the default on desktops/laptops)

I would still recommend Bazzite for desktops as I use its cousin Aurora, and it has images for Nvidia, but if somebody got it in place I don't think SteamOS would hold them back as much as it did previously.

That was a really interesting read! All very clear and understandable instructions, too
