The server operates on a soft whitelist. Anyone can log in and walk around, but you need a Tildes account to gain build access.
Been a quiet week on the server (this sometimes happens, I have come to embrace the cyclical nature of this server), but I have made some good progress on my projects.
I have figured out the armour trim ranks and have made all the suits. The following ranks are:
I have also built quarters for most of these soldiers, and have all the armour already made. I am currently working on the Citadel Leader quarters, and I have a placement, just trying to figure out the design (and being cursed with having to work on an even number set for this, when I prefer working in odd numbers).
I have also been trying to figure out what to put at the end of the grand hall. I feel like a giant statue or altar would be best, but haven't had an idea that I think quite fits yet (and no Pickles I will not do a creesch cult altar).
I've had a bunch of IRL drama lately that's left me feeling not in a mood to play games, but I did play for a little bit. I made decent progress on the Allay Cafe, but so far it feels too similar to the apartment complex I just built across the street. I think I'll just take the lazy way out and say the Allay who own the shop also manage the apartments.
Was able to add some more vents/other deck features to Titanic, still have some more finishing touches but it will get there! Been doing some traveling so hope to have time to hop on next week and also possibly work on starting another skyscraper near downtown.
There are still a few unclaimed spots in the mall if anyone has any interest. If not, I'm gonna try to fill them up before too long so the project can be officially completed. There is also the parking lot and parking garage that @j0hn1215 and @IsildursBane worked on respectively, which still need cars. Other than that, I just want to add a few more guests wandering the mall, and then I think it's all done.
Edit: I claimed a spot this morning and built Art's Candles (soon to be renamed Randall's Candles). There are still a few spots left!
I'm also almost finished working on The Allay Cafe! The XP farm itself should be ready to use, but I haven't tested it yet because I had to make another special sword. @TaylorSwiftsPickles was kind enough to take on that small task for me, so it could be ready to test right now!
Edit: Apparently you can't use Soul Campfires instead of regular campfires for the design, so the machine will need new Allays bred before its ready.
Edit2: The Allay Cafe is officially open!
I also plan to extend the De Lijn ice boat path so that it can connect over to Santa's Raceway Village. Seems like it should be easy enough to do and it's perfectly themed! Mainly I want another way to access the village so it has more opportunities for visitors in the future.
Edit: I've dug out the extension to the tunnel, just need to add the ice and a bubblevator at the end!
Edit2: All done!
To be transparent - these are all the spots I had previously claimed but never finished. It was getting pretty clear that I was never gonna finish them & so I unclaimed all of them and opened them up for whoever wants to build something there.
That was fast! Thank you for your effort :)
@creesch can you update the bluemap sometime this week? I'll update the in-game map "arts" & the guiding signs myself
Had a little bit of time available, so did it right away. Also added Santa's village to the general markers.
Art's Candles is now open at Tildestown Mall!
Edit: Just realized it should be Randall's Candles. Will fix soon.
I finished placing the ice and making the bubblevator last night too, so it's fully usable. Just need to add some decorations at the end of the tunnel.
I updated all of the minimaps yesterday. I still need to add one to your new stop, as well as extend the deceleration platform at shroomlandia to properly cover the stop of shroomlandia, & add one at your stop too.
I'll also need to add signs to your stop (both on the ground and underground) and maybe construct a properly visible overground stop for zestier and the titanic, but that's the easy part.
I'll do this within the week, maybe even today
All of the above have been done. But, important note.
We had previously concluded with dhcrazy that an iceberg-themed stop would be on-theme with their base, but Evie rightfully pointed out that this was a tragic event where real people died and we shouldn't be joking about it. And honestly, she's right, and I completely missed that chain of thoughts due to never really being exposed to the whole thing, both personally and culturally. Either way, I rightfully take the blame.
So I'm looking for further suggestions on what to replace it with. Something that does not inappropriately poke fun on this topic.
Oh well if it makes any difference I was just being glib. As far as I'm concerned it's fair game. I mean, it's been over a hundred years! not that it's wrong to feel bad about it or anything but I don't personally think it's a big deal
Honestly, you were right to bring it up, though.
I mean, I certainly wouldn't poke fun at any 100-year-old tragic events I'm more familiar with. So I should be doing the same about an event a lot more distant to me too, had I put 2 and 2 together. Plus, 100ish years is close enough that a lot of these people are still remembered by their families.
If anything, I'm kind of annoyed at myself for not making that connection, so I'm still interested in changing the iceberg to something else.
My opinion is that's its only making fun of them if you choose to think of it that way. It's just a historical fact that the Titanic hit an iceburg.
Now if the ship had been built to show it sinking, and then I filled it with armor stand people in distress and dying, that would be too far.....although I do kinda find the idea of making a Jack/Rose floating on a door somewhat funny.
To be honest, everyone knows what did happen to the titanic. So any titanic build with an iceberg nearby, in my mind anyway, is somewhat accurate. I honestly wouldn't consider it being done as a joke in that regard.
But, I also see your point. Just adding my 2ct.
I think part of the issue with it being underutilized is we have built a good deal of minigames, but we rarely collectively come together to play them. I think there would be value in just planning a time where people log on and play minigames for a bit.
The minigames we have already built:
I may be missing some games, but those are the ones that came to me.
Personal comments about my lack of availability in the next week
While I am suggesting that this would be fun, I also have very limited availability this week. So, while I would enjoy something like this happening and would probably participate, I would not be able to this week.Just pointing out that the labyrinth is a lot of fun to solo. So if anyone reading this is curious, don't wait until others are online to give it a visit. It is indeed not finished, but the part that is complete is very nice indeed.
Yeah, this is one I have done solo recently, and the part that is completed is really good. I should have marked this one as able to be done solo (as that is how I did it recently), but kind of forgot to mention that as I was just listing activities on the server
I had actually planned to build a maze of my own back when the server started, but never got around to it. I made a small version during server downtime in my copy of the server world that was really fun. It had timed pressure plates that had to be activated before you could proceed through each section. Maybe I'll try to squeeze that onto my todo list as well, it was a lot of fun.
It really should be considered a modern marvel. :D
I didn't even know we had that minigame, honestly. What are the coordinates?
It's over in the industrial district. The southernmost building, nearish the giant kiwi.
I likely will not be on much. Haven't been much online last week either. Some IRL stuff has been happening and next week I'll be on holiday anyway.
Were you using any reference photos for the main airport entrance? Or were you "winging it"? Pun intended.
I'll try to work on that project soon too!
Mostly winging it, I had a glass "wall" in mind for the front and a light "floating" floor for where the station walkway enters the building. Sort of inspired by Schiphol (Amsterdam), Gatwick (London) but more inspired by those than trying to recreate.
Feel free to pick it up however you see fit if you have time :) I won't have much time for it in the near future anyway.
Started a little bit of work on the main airport building last night. I just continued the existing work you did on the exterior, but I also started having ideas for interior layout. I'm thinking we put ticket counters on the left of the lower floor, then security checkpoints to the right with stairs beyond them to get upstairs to the boarding gates. Behind the ticket counters will be baggage handling. Sound about right? Anything I'm forgetting?
Sounds good to me! I was wondering if we could squeeze in a little tax free area but there is probably not enough space for that.
I have learned honeycomb makes for fantastic ornate gold details (and looks so much nicer than gold blocks
Honeycomb is one of my favorite textures in the game, but it is so hard to integrate it into builds without it overpowering everything. I think you've done an excellent job of balancing that here. Looks really great. :)
I haven't used it before, but I was looking in the creative menu for alternatives to gold blocks, and saw honeycomb. It will definitely be something I use more often
So, I started making a glass platform in the end to make some hieroglyph map art, but soon realized that the transparent parts just show the item frame behind, and not the block the item frame it attached to. So, the effect I wanted was lost.
Now, I think I'm only going to have the hieroglyphs on sandstone blocks, so I was going to make a 128x128 sandstone slab area on the nether roof. However, I wanted to ask here if that would work before I put in a bunch of work on a solution that might not be a solution; Does dimension/biome effect the color of a map in Java? If I make the map art on the nether roof, will it be strangely colored?
I feel like you already created a way to test this out yourself ;) Just make a map of the ... well uh... map you did on the nether roof.
I suppose you're right. I think biome does change the colors of a held map, which is why I think some the colors of my nether roof map are a little off (I took a screenshot of the held overworld map in the nether so the player indicator wouldn't be on the map).
But I suppose making a map of the roof map and look at it in the overworld I'd be able to see any biome color changes.
/trigger if_invisible
Will that make the item frame texture disappear behind the map?
Yes
