... so my idea was to wait for a discount in a year or two... now I am not more sure anymore... could it be the game I will buy on day one?

What's interesting about the price is that it's actually a 33% price hike from the original Hollow Knight, which was, and after its massive popularity still is, $15. But considering how the original is like a top 5 biggest indie darling ever, and how Silksong's meme status now not only rivals, but has arguably surpassed the likes of GTA 6, Half Life 3, or Elder Scrolls 6, the price sounds like a complete steal. They easily could have charged $40 and most people wouldn't have been surprised.
Through a quick calculation, $15 in Feb 2017 (when Hollow Knight first released) is $19.89 in July 2025 so the $20 final price tag isn't really too different haha.

The original was $15 because that was the max price Microsoft allowed on Xbox live arcade, right? (and they knew people wouldn't pay $20 for a game on PS or PC that was $15 on another console)

That said, Silksong will sell more copies than those games by several orders of magnitude, so they don't need such a big price tag to make a profit... It's sad that, these days, it feels odd that anyone wouldn't do all they can to make as much money as possible.
With sequels I sometimes like to think about the value I've gotten from the previous game, and for me Hollow Knight is a good example. Did I get more than $15 worth of enjoyment from the first...

With sequels I sometimes like to think about the value I've gotten from the previous game, and for me Hollow Knight is a good example. Did I get more than $15 worth of enjoyment from the first game? Did I get $35 worth of enjoyment from it? Heck yes. So it's kind of a no-brainer. I owe them an extra $20, so I'll pick it up, no questions asked. That helps me from having to spoil anything in the game or spend time researching it.
I've of course gotten burned because of this strategy (Civ 6, Sports Story, Echoes of Wisdom), but when I think about it in terms of simply supporting franchises I've gotten a ton of entertainment from, I don't feel bad about it.
All of that said...there's nothing wrong with waiting. Silksong will still be there waiting for you whenever it inevitably goes on sale, the devs are clearly not hurting for money, and there are way more good games to play than there is time to play them!

Interesting. I was planning on skipping this as the first game never caught me (i'm sure it gets better but i wasn't having fun at the start because the combat wasn't engaging so it was just exploring/wandering), but for $20 yeah I'll probably give it a shot.
I'm curious if they've done anything about the early game ramp up, as I know several others with similar complaints that the early game is kinda boring if you already know what you're doing.
If you just mean a general waiting-and-seeing til the game is out type curiosity I'm with you. If you're sort of indirectly asking if they've commented publicly on much, not really. The game is...

The game is super under wraps until launch, which is kinda great in a way, it's not that often something releases without whole advertising campaign telling us exactly how the game works these days.

(Surprising no one) it's more Hollow Knight! This will be great for people like me who loved the first game, and probably just as offputting for anyone who didn't care for it. Personally, I'm thrilled, and can't wait to get back to exploring.
Team Cherry are legends for this. I’ve been so busy this year that I haven’t touched my Switch once. Finally going to dust it off, charge the controllers, and hook it back up to the TV. I can’t...

I can’t believe this game is finally releasing after so many years of waiting. I’m trying to keep expectations low (Hollow Knight is the greatest Metroidvania of all time, IMO), but the hype is real.

Xbox Live arcade was a 360 thing, Hollow knight was only on Xbone as far as I know

It's really good, and it crashed steam as well as the nintendo eshop

Thursday can’t come soon enough.
Already on Game Pass, so I know what I'm going to play on day one.
