Anyone else enjoying OSRS leagues?
I went harvest, hotfoot, evil eye, butler, larcenist, and culling so far and I’m gonna go back for the clue one and maybe take the axe for t8
I did kandarin and kourend regions and planning on doing mory for 3rd
Did the mage water/air build but kinda messed it up so I need like 2-3 more pacts to echo boss to fix it
Regret butler kinda, but idk I go back to work tomorrow so it’ll be nice to log back in to a big xp drop. Evil eye has also been meh but I know itll be great once I actually start bossing
How about yall?
Where are people playing OSRS? Is the Steam version the only option?
I think most people play it through RuneLite, a third party client with a bunch of plugins you can enable. It's an option in the Jagex Launcher that you can download from the runescape website.
There's a few options, Jagex has a launcher available on their website, but most people use RuneLite a third party approved for use by Jagex. RuneLite users just have to be careful to use the official download, there are lots of fake runelite sites with clients who will steal your account.
I’m on Linux and use Bolt Launcher through flatpak to play on RuneLite
Awesome for steam deck
I play almost exclusively using the mobile client. I don't have much time to play games and when I do get in front of my computer I usually want to play something I can only play on my computer. Mobile works okay for the limited playing I do. I'm betting I would prefer playing on my computer once I got in to bossing.
I will occasionally buy a bond and play for a couple of weeks, but I mostly "play" by logging in a couple of times a week on my different alt accounts to shuffle some merchanting flips (buying items low and selling high) so that when I do decide to activate a bond I have GP to spend on things and enjpoy myself without feeling like I need to grind for GP during my membership time.
I've been playing it a lot - I'm an extremely casual osrs player, so my leagues character has already overtaken my main in most stats. I also managed to defeat the frost boss thing under the twilight temple; kinda notable for me because I'd never fought a boss with actual mechanics before (Elvarg was basically the only big one I'd done prior).
I've mostly just been doing clue scrolls, because I found out that if you don't bother unlocking more regions they all point to the same couple places. And it's fun being able to walk around decked out in gear I'd never get in the actual game (my first one had ranger boots for example)
You did amox???? I need to do that but my build is kinda messed up so Im scared still haha what were your stats/build?
Amox is a very beginner friendly boss and you can do it with mid level stats for sure. If you have melee at all, getting sulphur naguas can help a lot until you get the glacial temotlis.
Yep! I followed the wiki guide for fighting her to the letter, kept protect from magic up at all times and went in with an inventory full of swordfish and prayer potions. Nearly ran out of food mainly because I was really bad at dodging the floor icicles, but managed to get through it.
I had ~70 ranged and defence, used a yew longbow and green dhide armour that I got from a clue scroll. And rune arrows that I bought from the Tal Teklan shop (I went for the starting relic that gives tons of money)
EDIT: Oh, and the aforementioned ranger boots!
I actually died to the earlier stage of the quest, the trial fight with all the cultists. But not to her at least!
ahh range build that makes sense, ranged is so good everywhere. I went mage build and so its taking me a bit longer to get to bossing bc it seems just about everything is strong to mage
I did 75 easy clues already. With Larcenist you can pickpocket 100 clues from wealthy citizen, go stand at Aldarin bank, pull clue and if it's not your position you just re-pull - clues progress do persists across clues in league. I did it with only Karamja unlocked and I got exactly 20 boxes from 100 easy clues.
I'm excited for the clue relic, I was gonna reload for it because I need it for prayer gear
Doesn't help early on when under leveled, but if you dip your toes into colosseum you can start getting Sunfire armour starting wave 4, which isn't too bad. Best prayer armour in the game.
Neat I may go for that
Sorry to ask a bit of a noob question here, but how does Prayer armour work? Does it just mean you get more prayer points?
It's not more prayer points, it means your prayer drains slower. The higher the prayer bonus on the armour, the slower your prayer will drain, the longer you can keep protection/other prayers up. And in leagues there's some pacts that will give you other benefits for having a high prayer bonus I believe. You can find out the prayer bonus by checking your armour tab and equipping an item, or looking it up on the wiki. The osrs wiki is insanely good and I highly recommend it.
Prayer armor means armor that has a high prayer bonus, and having a higher prayer bonus means your prayers drain your prayer points more slowly.
I've been playing but doing a lot of travel so I went with endless harvest, it has been working great. I do kind of regret going blind bag, I hope they buff it. I went mage build 2 years ago, range last year, so I wanted to do melee this year and run some ToB. Thorns is looking to be so much more powerful than blind bag, I'm wondering I will need to respec. I was planning to run a long range nox hally build for inferno as well as other combat. Working on getting slayer up.
So far went Endless Harvey > Woodsman > Evil Eye > Transmutation >Natures Accord > Culling spree.
Planning to reload into larcenist possibly.
Overall I'm having fun but the early combat feels very underwhelming compared to previous leagues.
Early combat I feel like they just assumed everyone would go gem crab and skip it so they didnt bother adding any tasks or relics for it
Ive decided to go for a shadow tank build.
I finished the fight caves to get the Obsidian armor, and took Desert as my first area for ancients. Im going to get the earth spell pacts which should give my shadow spells a guaranteed minimum hit as well as boosting my defence, and then pair that with the thorns pact. Im hoping the flat consistent damage will compensate for my lack of skill.
For relics the best one so far has been Transmutation. Really useful for dealing with the item availability constraints.
Im targeting Kandarin as my next region, I want to try and get that echo trident weapon.
Haven't heard of that one before, that sounds awesome!
Has mage been slow for you early game? I'm kinda struggling but I might just be a chicken
Yes, starting mage was difficult due to the lack of gear.
Getting transmutation helped alot because just upgrading a bunch of runes to high tier let me autolevel to 99 while doing other stuff.
How I got through the fight caves was by using the thorns pact with the Air and Water rune pacts. The rune perks meant that casting water surge gives both hp and prayer recovery, and the thorns deal pretty consistent damage over time, so it worked really well for that particular challenge.
However outside of that Ive been avoiding any difficult combat until I get enough pacts to unlock the end of the skill tree. Ive just been meleeing in Obsidian gear otherwise.
I shoulda done transmute. biggest regret so far.
I'm really struggling, I had to tele out of both skotizo and demonic gorillas cause mage spells just don't cut it there. I think I'm gonna have to train range and attempt these pacts the old fashioned way to get anywhere, which is super disappointing.
I kinda wish I hadnt allocated my early pacts so casually. It helped when I needed it, but now I need to get a reset to recover them, and I dont know if I can handle an echo boss.
I managed to beat Amoxliatl once with just melee, but that was a pretty messy kill and the enhanced version will obviously be a lot tougher.
Yeah I'm in exactly the same boat, and I had heard echo amox is HARD
I think I managed to get a hespori kill with melee last leagues, but that was a mess and took me like 30x. Im hoping water mage will be easier on that one but... so far it hasn't made anything easier so idk lol
Hey, for what its worth I logged in today and I got given 1 free pact reset for nothing, so maybe you dont need the kill.
Dude yes! I reset my pacts Tues and now Im GAMIN
I'd recommend maybe taking some elemental spells and killing fire or moss giants with them if you don't have transmutation to get higher level runes. The elemental weaknesses help a lot and are great for leveling quickly.
Funny that you post this, I've been contemplating starting OSRS (never touched it, barely any clue what to expect) over the last few days. I like the idea of a long-term progress game that I can (partly) play while watching a show or chilling at the PC. The temp seasons are another factor that I probably find fun, if the schedule lines up well :) Seems like a good thing as a palate cleanser.
I just have to figure out if I can motivate myself long-term since the goals are pretty much self-defined...
Once you start on 99 WC you can never go back. It’s a fun game if you like grindy, old school games.
Ah you should, it's a great game!
The main game is solid, they just released the sailing skill which has been amazing
I'm having fun. I got the 4th region unlocked even before I unlocked my 3rd (which is the first free choice) following Faelkrane's guide.
I haven't play OSRS for quite a while. After I got quest cape in 2018 I switched to RS3 and got a quest cape in 2019. I was surprised how fun skilling in RS3 was, compared to OSRS. But the game is showing its age, and EoC doesn't get much better. Still, free death week and PvM hub make it much more fun to experiment compared to OSRS where I am mostly a skiller, which make me poor as my job has been replaced by automations (and noted drops) for years.
This time I'm playing on HDOS, another lesser-known but legal client. Unlike RuneLite, it is completely closed source and has less plugins. (RuneLite is not completely open source either - Jagex made all the open source client illegal). It tries to adapt RuneScape HD client and graphical style to OSRS, and playing it feel like this is exactly what I wanted OSRS to be. If you want to try HDOS it is on Bolt launcher, or you have to install it manually then it will show up on Jagex Launcher.
Anyway back on to league. I'm playing water mage, and once I got that overheal I don't know why but that makes me able to face tank Huey easily. Still, I did tried the fight caves and with how I am unfamiliar with the models on HDOS I got the prayer swapped at Jad and died in two hits after 80 mins of effort. Maybe I'll try after I get the faster attack speed.
Hey I mostly skill too, I feel that pain. its kinda weird cause like, the same thing happened irl. I enjoy doing those tedious tasks everyone hates but they automated it cause they hate doing it so now I have to do work i hate doing cause that's what everyone else does.
I messed up my build and spread pacts laterally instead of going straight for water, so progression is really slow, I have overheal but it doesn't seem to help much. I had to tele out of both skotizo and demonic gorillas cause mage just isn't cutting it. I'm thinking about rock crabbing out a range build and getting more pacts the old fashioned way just to unstick myself, but I'm not sure how to get anything better than a mage shortbow.
Is Bowfa the next step up from MSB?
When I periodically fall back into OSRS I’m an F2P skiller because I refuse play differently than I did 24 years ago.
Yeah it kinda is, theres like, dark bow I guess but it hits so slow
They gave everyone a free demonic pact reset today, so you should be able to re-allocate your build if you would like to.
I just did!!!!! I’m so excited!
As an RS3 player, what do you think of the gods returning storyline? I fell off the game around the time "Sliskes Endgame" came out, so I know the general plot synopsis from the wiki but never got to experience the execution. But I always found the diverging storylines of the two games to be interesting.
I wasn't there when they moved to sixth age (I returned around the launch of archeology, my favorite skill). Personally I'm not a fan that you can go talk to Saradomin. They could've make the god more human (which they are - none of them are perfect being) but with how lighthearted the story is they can't really emphasis this other than for comedy.
Personally I didnt really like the Gods as characters either. Most of them I feel are a letdown. The only good ones were Guthix and Armadyl, and one of those is dead. But I was really disappointed in Zaros and Seren, who I think were really cool before they actually got revealed.
Demonic Pacts has been... okay.
Not gonna lie, the lack of Misthalin this time around is a major detriment. It means missing out on so much content. All but one Echo boss has been been straight-up recycled from the last league (Amoxliatl is the only new one.)
I also wish region locking wasn't a thing, because some regions are more equal than others and it just feels bad to make tough choices and have to miss out on content.
So far, I'm on tier 4 and picked:
Next relics will probably be:
Yeah I took the slayer one and I’m really missing two things, being able to pick my assignment and the buff/always on task.
I definitely had more fun with shattered relics, that was my first leagues when they dropped all of the relic pieces and you could collect them and equip them and multi equipped relics became other relics it was so much fun
