Anyone playing Quake Champions?

For those who don't know, you can get Quake Champions for free and you'll still have it forever, you won't have to wait until the full f2p launch.

Has anyone been playing? I picked it up right after the announcement at E3 and I've been having a great time. I played Quake 3 and Live pretty casually in the past, but I think I'm actually getting into this one. I'd love to play with some of yall or just hear your thoughts!

I tried it out when they had their closed beta a while back and I didn't like it too much... Tried it again a few days ago and I have no idea what they did but it feels and runs much better now. I personally am against the idea of champions/classes in the arena FPS genre and feel like it would be a much better game without them (it's a shame the game was built around it).

You should check out Diabolical which if all goes well should be a fantastic arena FPS similar to the older games when it eventually comes out... it was planned to be released a year ago and the backers of this project have gotten very minimal updates but I still believe in it and it's sort of my last hope for a decent arena fps game. Quake Champions will do for now.

I get why it would bother players who were still playing Live and such, but I'm much more of a fan of it than I expected.

I haven't been able to get it to join a game yet. I've tried 3 different days and it'll get to finding a game, but fails at connecting to it :(

That sucks! Could it be a firewall problem? I really have no idea but that sounds like a good general troubleshooting thing, lol.

I don't have any troubles on ANY other game. Hopefully it will just work soon. I'll keep you posted, I'm not the best at FPSes but I enjoy playing with people if you want to team up sometime.

It can still have an effect on specific games, I've had it happen before and it's super annoying. This and this seem like good places to start, if you care enough to try. I get why you wouldn't,...

Hope things work out for you!

Figured I'd give it another shot now that it's on Steam. Although it's no CPMA, I've still been enjoying it a bit. Cruising across the map as Anarki is pretty fun.

Tried it out for a few hours, had an absolute blast. I really miss Quake, played Q3 since early 00's.

Actually thinking of going home for a few days just to unwind from work and play some games.

I tried out the tutorial/training quickly last night, haven't played a real game yet. It felt a little laggy, like when I hit the bot with a rocket it felt like there was a short delay before I'd see it get knocked back and show damage. Not sure if it was just something off with that game or if that's how it's going to feel normally, I'll need to try some real games and see.

My initial impression was that the menu / leveling / loot boxes / various "points" and progression / etc. was a bit overwhelming too, but I'm sure that starts making sense pretty quickly.

Everything between the actual games (the menu system/loot boxes/etc) is horrible, but I've found the actual gameplay to be pretty solid. I was mostly surprised at just how much extra junk there is – so many different collectibles, a billion medals, 3 different types of in-game currency, leveling, whatever the runes stuff is – it's ridiculous. I don't know if it is actually more than any other similar game throws at you, or if it's just that their menu UX is really bad. Either way, once you get into a game it's pretty much what you expect from quake, which is great.

It is really bad to navigate. Getting notifications for new items to go away sometimes flat-out doesn't work and that makes getting used to what you do and don't have is a pain. Also if you select a locked set that you have some pieces for, it will let you equip it...but there's no indication of that and it looks like you just stole a set or something. There's a lot of little things that make it a mess.

The levels and runes and such all play into the system that lets you either unlock more characters or buy more backpacks. Personally, I chose to purchase everything gameplay related (a $20 pack that will give you all future champions) and just not worry myself about the rest. I definitely want to push this game to people, but like you said it's for the actual gameplay...the rest is a bit of a mess right now.

Playing Quake Champions actually made me realize just how good the UI/UX design over at Blizzard must be – Overwatch has a lot of the same features (as far as stuff outside of the matches are concerned) but I never recall being so overwhelmed by everything it throws at you. I think a lot of game companies struggle to do good UI/UX outside of the actual game.

Seems to still be dead in my region. Too bad though, I would love to play an active arena shooter again. Other FPS types just don’t scratch the same itch for high speed rails.

And yeah, I'm hoping to see an arena shooter comeback at some point, and it'd be cool if this was one of the games leading that. I love my tactical CS stuff, but I think this is more in line with how I want to play games now. I'm tired of current internet culture and I'm tired of angry teammates...just let me frag.
