Yo Dawg, we heard you liked game stores so we put a game store in your game store so you can shop while you shop. I suspect this is Epic trying to put a dig on Apple in advance of their trial.

That's honestly pretty cool, if they can put themselves on EGS's front page, which is the only way I can see value being added this way. Also, itch will be the first open-source program in EGS.

interesting and unexpected. But I'm still confused on how either party really benefits from this. Epic claims they aren't taking any of itch's revenue1 from this, so I guess this is just some show...

interesting and unexpected. But I'm still confused on how either party really benefits from this. Epic claims they aren't taking any of itch's revenue1 from this, so I guess this is just some show of goodwill for indie support, but I'm unsure if that would impact the supposed "quality" curation Epic is using to differentiate itself from Steam.

I suppose the main thing Itch gets is an "official" desktop launcher for its website, as an even more accessible way to browse some experimental games.

    1. for context: Itch.io is mostly known as a "pay as you feel" approach to many games. It's an especially popular place for small gamejam projects or otherwise operating as a way to easily host small games/VN's for public download. I wouldn't call most of the games uploaded there "playable" per se.

This headline is extremely misleading. Itch.io is not joining EGS, in that they are offering their content for sale on their platform. All they are doing is making their client program available...

The itch.io app allows you to browse itch.io, purchase games, install games, and start games.
The headline states that the itch.io app will be available on EGS.
It does not state that itch.io is joining EGS or that you can purchase itch.io games directly from EGS.

EDIT: Sorry @Akir! I didn't notice the headline on Tilde was changed and completely missed the original headline on Polygon.
