Minecraft adds and removes dozens of splash text messages with new updates. The articles that focus on specific ones and try to read meaning into them seem to be inventing controversy.

It really surprises me, like when I visited 4chan some years ago it was constant racism, aggression, lots of insults and offensive memes, etc, but nowadays most people seem to be pretty chilled out and cooperative. Not sure what caused it though.

4chan is a bigger and more diverse place than most realize. The 4chan the public knows is /pol/. But many of the other boards are radically different. /n/ is mostly posts about trains and bikes...

Likely what happened is that bulk of the shit flingers moved to 8chan and elsewhere between Gamergate and Qanon.

There's another article linked in OP (trigger warnings: transphobic remarks) illustrating just how far into wacko land Notch has gone, it's pretty sad. I don't blame Microsoft one iota for trying to distance themselves from both him and some of the other associations the game acquired over the years.

Not a surprise. Microsoft runs the show now and they need to sanitise minecraft of all personality to keep it in line with corporate requirements.

Well yeah...even it wasn't owned by Microsoft keeping ties to 4chan doesn't seem like a cool idea anyways no matter how much that place helped Minecraft gaining popularity in the beginning.
