Locked in a crate until it died. Very sad. Seems shocking that she left a dog in a crate and then collapsed and died in the bathroom. Perhaps they were keeping the dog in there overnight and she collapsed in the night when going to the bathroom? I'm curious how no one knew she was sick if she died of Hantavirus and he had Alzheimer's so he obviously wasn't taking care of her (not to mention the age gap).
Apparently the dog had a procedure done at the vet recently, so it’s likely she was on orders for reduced physical activity. It’s still not entirely clear whether she was locked in the crate, or...

No foul play suspected and all 3 passed away? Honestly sounds like could be carbon monoxide poisoning or something similar. Edit: Updated findings say no indications of a gas leak or carbon...

Edit: Updated findings say no indications of a gas leak or carbon monoxide so further investigation needed. Strange indeed.

If that's true, it's incredibly sad. My aunt has Alzheimers and it sucks seeing how she is now compared to years ago.
Had a hard time putting together how that could happen, but the article explains that she passed first, which makes sense but is horribly tragic

There's been a new development: Death of Hackman and wife 'suspicious enough' for investigation, police say
This was my initial reaction when I read the news as well.
A Weird Al's parents scenario
That seems to be the leading theory at this point and it seems likely.
