I really wish I was excited about this considering what a pleasure it was to watch the standard editions in the theaters when they first came out. I saw them each a few times and had little trouble with it (aside from falling asleep during Return of the King once--it was a late showing and I was tired, I'm not saying I was bored). I'm not sure if the irony was intended here, but this suggests my current attitude:

Just imagine being thrown around like an oliphaunt rider for four-plus hours while you soak in Return of the King in 4DX.

I guess I'm old, because I don't think I could handle a 4 hour movie in the theater. I also wish I was excited about Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair, but to me, 4 hour movies are strictly at-home affairs. Alas.

I watched Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair last week, and it was well worth it. I'd never seen them in a theater before, and it makes a huge difference. The additional animated scene also adds a lot to it.

There was an intermission, and I had dinner and a pot of coffee.

But I have zero interest in 4D stuff. Being pushed out of a comfortable position is the last thing I ever want, and from what I've heard, there's some risk of it causing issues with neck musculature, which I can get just from sleeping in a hotel bed...

I was fool enough to go on a VR motion seat aquarium add on ride this month; I wish I had gone to the free included bubbles spray poke version instead, due to motion sickness. I had imagined sitting quietly in a shark cage turning around to admire sharks; it was go pro mounted on various sharks oops.

Thanks for the info--I didn't realize there was an intermission! A 15 minute break in the middle might make it doable if I can figure out the timing.

I don't think I could ever recommend the D-Box. It's been a few years, so maybe they've improved, but the way the chair was designed, the head-rest pushed my head forward out of alignment with the rest of my body and by the end of the 2-hour movie, my neck ached like nothing else and ached for the rest of the weekend, too.

That said, I'll probably go see this in a normal seat.

Thanks for posting this, I got myself some tickets for a regular showing! I've always wanted to see these in theaters, so I'm very excited to finally have the chance.

when the first one came out, there was a trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean and in that half second of silence before the next trailer, this dude said, 'rated arrrrrr' and I've never seen anybody score like that. The theatre was laughing for a good five minutes.

the trilogy itself is amazing in the theatre, too. :)

I watched Fellowship of the Ring last night in theatres, have tickets for Two Towers tonight, and Return of the King for next Sunday. It was a really fun experience, and for those who are on the fence about getting tickets, I highly recommend doing it.

One of the things that I felt the big screen was really good at showing was all the beautiful lighting work that they did on Galadriel. It is common in movies for there to be a single spotlight meant to show up in an actor's eyes, to make them pop. However, for Galadriel they did a fancier lighting setup with lots of small lights, creating the look of the stars in her eyes that is described in the book.

Really excited for this and am hoping it comes to my local theater. Especially since my wife and I have three movie gift cards that we have not seen a movie we are interested in going to yet. My biggest complaint is that they are doing three movies over two weekends, it would be better pacing if they spread it out over three weekends.
