Very excited for this. I am sure in no way all the foreshadowing that has been built up over the course of two movies could possibly come to a bad end, not when this is the exciting conclusion that will leave its audience immensely satisfied as only a "blowing up a Death Star" finale can deliver.

With the sarcasm out of the way, it's a miracle that these movies are even able to be made these days. I suppose the trade-off is the next "worm popcorn bucket" that marketing will come up with.

I did, too, which made the ending of Part 2 more disappointing for me because they spent so much movie time on the end scene -- almost dragging it out while keeping it close to the source material -- when it didn't do anything more than the book did. The book's conclusion wraps up pretty quick, I'd say quicker than even watching it in film form and usually that's not how things go with book to film adaptations. I felt like they could've spent some of that movie time somewhere else and had just as impactful a confrontation while staying close to the source material. But since they've already deviated from the book in a few ways, I wouldn't have been offended if they deviated a little at the end to make the final confrontation more exciting and more worth the buildup (and time spent there instead of elsewhere).

I see that they're hyping this up as the finale of a trilogy, and I remember the director saying he planned to only adapt the first two books, but it's leaving me wondering: they're gonna do the other books, right? With or without Denis Villeneuve? They already jumped on making a TV show set in the era of the prequel books, so I can't imagine they wouldn't do all 6 of the mainline books. This trailer even name drops the titular Children of Dune.

Has there been any news of future films of TV series yet? Personally I've read up to the fourth book. While reading, I felt that, pacing-wise, the third and fourth books would work well as a series more-so than films. They focus on slow paced talking and worldbuilding scenes in fantastical locations more than action, especially the fourth book.

Probably but it’s worth saying that the TV show flopped all around. Which will probably be the fate of other Dune adaptations without Villenueve and Chalamet.

I'm curious by what metrics it flopped? I saw S1 and thought it was just OK. They renewed for S2.

Also even people who liked it didn’t like it that much and kind of said most of the show was fluff.

The books get so so weird though. Like... I quit at some point but they don't get less weird after Children. Are we ready for God Emperor?

They are weird, infamously so, but admittedly the first two have some weird stuff as well. Villeneuve notably cut or changed the weird stuff, such as first book Alia. He made the call that an unborn baby with superpowers was better than a two year old with superpowers, and it makes the story a lot less goofy for general audiences. I'm sure it's possible to similarly tone down the later books with the right creative liberties.

Are we ready for God Emperor?

Leto, for example, seems like something that really wouldn't work. But I think modern sci-fi and fantasy viewing audiences are willing to accept a lot of wacky stuff. Story tone, character design, visual spectacle, and actor performance could do a lot to make "giant worm man discusses philosophy and politics" palatable. Directors were able to get general audiences totally on board with Vin Diesel playing a talking tree that only says his own name, and on board with spending 3 hours mostly focusing on blue cat people.

I kinda liked how absurd the books were willing to get. The stuff that happened felt like the natural consequences of the stuff introduced in 1 and 2. People like the Bene Gesserit were afraid of certain things happening or being invented, they happened anyways, then we see that it led to nightmare scenarios. God Emperor was basically "What if Harry Potter doubled down on becoming a time travel series once time turners were introduced, instead of writing itself out of that corner?" Some parts really felt like people exploiting video game mechanics that had been discovered. Stuff that felt meant for a one-time cinematic moment was able to be mass produced because, well, it's a mechanic the universe established now, so of course you can reproduce it!

I suspect they don't try with a new director, or they do and it bombs because this really only seemed to work because of Villeneuve's vision. They're too expensive to take the risk on a new vision, I think. Just my guess.

I'm excited to see how they wrap this story up. It's been a good experience so far. The fight scenes in Part 1 especially were done really well and visually described the book's intent so much better than I expected (the sparring with Gurney, crysknife duel, and Sardaukar battle). I'm not an expert fencer, but when reading the book I was concerned with how they'd portray this very specific style visually. Anyway, I don't have any doubts that Part 3 will have to deliver some pretty epic fight scenes.

I haven't read Messiah yet, so I liked seeing that Jason Momoa will reprise a role here -- and his scifi roles in general are fun (even if I didn't like See). The info at the bottom of the video also said that his daughter will be in this film, so that's cool. I didn't see Robert Pattinson in the trailer, must've missed him, but I've come to enjoy seeing his films - The Lighthouse and The Batman showcased his talent. I know Zendaya will be great in this, looking forward to seeing her career go to even higher heights.

They really transformed Robert Pattinson with makeup, although a lot of it is probably due to the fact that they removed his eyebrows. I thought at first that the actor was Paul Bettany.

After being relatively disappointed by the first part I was blown away by the second. At this point I trust this team wholly to deliver the second book all of the justice it deserves. Bring it on!

I believe it's because it's also incorporating some amount from Children of Dune.
