Unreal. I'm sceptical of all movie adaptations and I really just want a rerelease of the game on PC, but it's at least something to look forward to.

I'm at the end of the game via emulator, and there are definitely still some issues. For example, I have a chalice dungeon that crashes to desktop whenever I fight certain enemies. Also some bosses crash unless you absolutely bomb them so they don't have time to use certain skills.

It's amazing playing at 144+ in ultrawide, but realistically it needs a bit longer in the oven.

I did all the "fixed" chalice dungeons, finished all game zones except the fishermen village in the DLC.
And I did experience crashes, but not reproducible via a specific attack or combo that me or enemies did.
Do you run some of the randomly generated chalice ? Maybe I missed a specific enemy.

The main thing for me is that I have to restart the game once I move into too much different levels of the game.
I only have 10Gb of VRAM (3080 sigh..) and even though I have enough performance to run the game at 1440p with 90+ fps patch, I have to keep an eye on the task manager running behind the game at all times to watch the VRAM graph and restart the game when I see it would crash my desktop.

Also, the only main boss I've had issues with so far was celestial emissary.

Stuff like this SHOULD be a goldmine for movies/shows. There's so so so much media out there with good stories that ought to be pretty trivial to adapt, but I think they often die because rather leaning into their proven draw, they wind up just become some other script that's been repurposed.

I'm curious to see how well this does, as depending on how deep you go into bloodborne's lore this goes from "meh" to "wow" to "wtf" real quick for the average audience.

So, since the big success of Elden Ring, Fromsoft/their related IPs have announced two multiplayer games, an anime series, a live action film, and now an animated film. That's all well and good, but it just makes me think... where's the next mainline Soulslike title? Sure 5+ year waits for games are common these days, but not for Fromsoft. They've had a Souls game every 1-3 years since 2009, even while working on other games like Armored Core. In 2014-2016 they pumped out three mainline games and a next gen port back to back. I would've expected a Game Awards trailer or a credible leak or something by now.

I still can't get over how both the Nightreign and Duskbloods trailers didn't make any effort to clarify they were multiplayer, non-soulslike games, even though they proudly displayed the Fromsoft name and showed Elden Ring/Bloodborne style imagery at big gaming trailer showcases. They posted articles a bit after the trailers dropped and made the fans like myself spread the word to everyone who saw the trailers that no, these aren't what they looked like, they're not Souls games. Why couldn't they just have text boxes that said they were multiplayer games during the trailers?

I mean...the next game after that was sekiro in 2019 followed by ER in 2022 which DOES stick to the 1-3 years, but given the "failure" of sekiro and the success of ER I could see them reassessing.

I for one care little about Souls but I really enjoy Armored Core. I'd rather see them put out an expansion for AC6 over a soulslike, or really, anything else. Someone at the company must want it, right? FromSoft used to make so much weird interesting stuff.

Sure, it's disappointing that the next game won't be quite in the same vein, but I think it's no surprise that miyazaki may want to switch things up creatively a bit. I have no doubt we'll see more souls games in the future, so I'm not worried. I think with all forms of entertainment people can sometimes get a bit entitled, but it's important to look at what you already have!

        Hence Nightreign.

Miyazaki rose up through the ranks in a similar fashion, when they trusted him enough to start providing input and directing games. Nightreign is directed by someone else as a way to branch out and test things out.

Nightreign was probably a rather safe bet, reusing as many assets as they did, but it truly is quite a different style of play compared to Elden Ring. The latest DLC added much more mechanics to the game not found in Souls.

Call this blasphemous, but isn't it enough?

In a vacuum, yeah. As PelagiusSeptim said, we've already gotten more mainline Souls titles than many series ever get.

they've put one out every 1 to 3 years for a decade, despite the fact that they used to make other things than this.

I also don't feel entitled to more. From can make whatever games they want. I was onboard with a new Armored Core, since they got to take their newfound fame and bring some attention to their other IP and other genres. And once I got over the fact that Nightreign's trailer was a bit misleading, I was onboard with a multiplayer spinoff.

I'm also very impressed with their output over the past 10+ years, and really grateful that at least one studio I follow doesn't make me wait 7 years for the next game.

The thing is, the Souls series has finally become a household name that sells really well, getting movie deals and GOTY awards left and right, and all of a sudden after a decade of constant output they... start making completely different games? Right when people were the hungriest they've ever been for what they were already doing? It's a pretty baffling decision.

I'm sure many people have a sour taste in their mouth when they hear single player studios make a switch to multiplayer games. There was huge backlash when Platinum Games said they were going to switch to "live service" games, and PS5's game library has suffered from when Sony tried to make a bunch of "live service" games that either bombed or were cancelled. Naughty Dog infamously spent a ton of time working on The Last of Us Factions, only for it to never come out. And when multiplayer games do succeed, it takes the studio's attention away from their singleplayer games, like with GTA5 and GTA Online. Multiplayer games are an entirely different beast for Fromsoft to be getting themselves into.

Surely the creatives must be getting a bit tired with the formula at some point?

The formula itself is pretty flexible, with Sekiro having very different mechanics and Elden Ring introducing an open world. Even if they abandoned the Souls formula altogether, I would expect some type of followup to Elden Ring's success with a single player open world fantasy RPG of some kind. When Breath of the Wild was such a big success, we got a sequel announcement many years before TotK would actually release. That's the kind of announcement I would expect by now for an Elden Ring 2 or similar.

This could work, only if they really go all in on the gritty steampunk victorian aesthetic and vibe, I imagine something like a dark and evil Van Helsing (or a more mature/focused Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter?) sort of story. Would absolutely need to be more atmospheric than story-filled.

Hell, it could work if they just rework Vampire Hunter D, which Bloodborne is practically just a love letter to.

To add to what the others said, I'm a fan of his because he's genuinely very passionate about the games he plays and likes. He spent his playthrough of the Shadow of the Colossus remake geeking out over how revolutionary the original game was, it honestly felt pretty educational. He's the kind of fan who gets deep into lore and production, and really cares about quality.

I can't remember if he's played Bloodborne on his channel or not, but looking it up, he got a tattoo for it and calls it his favorite game ever. So he's definitely a big fan, which feels promising for the quality of this film. I don't think he's the type of guy who'd stick his name on a project unless he was confident it would be good and stay true to the series.
