Suggestions for a road trip playlist
I am going on a road trip with my family, including two young kids. I want to build a massive playlist for this, as we will be in the car for probably 30 hours round trip. I’m looking to branch out and add some stuff that I haven’t heard of before, but also I want to keep it PG (no swearing, sex, drugs, etc.)
Open to all genres and styles.
Let's see... I'd start with:
On the Road Again by Willie Nelson
Convoy by McCall
I've Been Everywhere by Johnny Cash
Take Me Home Country Roads by John Denver
Don't Stop Me Now by Queen
Day Tripper by The Beatles
Walking on Sunshine by Katrina and the Waves
I Get Around my the Beach Boys
Rocket Man by Elton John
Istanbul (Not Constantinople) by They Might Be Giants
Love Shack by the B-52s
East Bound and Down by Jerry Reed
Slow Ride by Foghat
Come on Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners
Life is a Highway by Tom Cochrane
Then mix in some of your other favorites, or the kids favorites.
Low effort reply, but seeing some of the songs here reminds me of other great, 70s rock songs like Radar Love by Golden Earring and Black Betty by Ram Jam.
Melodic poppy stuff
Sigur Ros - hoppipolla
Cocteau Twins - heaven or las vegas
Massive Attack - teardrop
Khruangbin - lady and man
belle and Sebastian - this is just a modern rock song
30 hours is a lot dude
Here's a variety of bands that'd probably make my driving playlist based on what I've had playing recently:
There's a lot of music out there, so finding 30 hours worth won't be the issue, taking the time to put it together with songs you want will be the hardest part.
As a kid, I have pretty fond memories of listening to the Forrest Gump soundtrack on roadtrips. So many classics through the decades on two CDs. Since I've gotten older, I've used those songs to further branch out and build my own road trip playlist that continues to span the decades.

Going Up The Country by Canned Heat has been my go-to first song of the trip for years. Otherwise, I pack it full of nostalgia. 30 hours is a lot of time to fill! I personally just drove across the USA on a move and got sick of my playlist pretty quickly. I would definitely have backup plans - finding fun local radio stations as you pass by can be fun.
We live in TX, and have family in CA - we've made that drive more times than I can count.
Last trip, my daughter made a 7.5 hour long playlist she dubbed "family road trip hype". I've exported the track list and removed the tracks with a positive "explicit" tag:
I'm currently in love with RVIVR's "The Sound". It's a bit heavy sounding, but upbeat and a pretty positive message! Note: I haven't dug into their discography yet so vet everything. I imagine you will, though!
How will you be building and playing this list? Spotify or similar? I use Deezer but I can dig into my playlists there if you want more suggestions!

Break it up between music, podcasts, and audiobooks. My favorite podcast is Behind the Bastards. They do a ton of research and are hilarious. Robert Evans is an incredible host.
