What have you been listening to this week?
What have you been listening to this week? You don't need to do a 6000 word review if you don't want to, but please write something!
Feel free to give recs or dicuss anything about each others' listening habits.
You can make a chart if you use last.fm:
I’ve been listening to lots of Gorillaz recently. I enjoyed most the songs inside their new album.
The new album is good? The album he released last year was good, but it felt more like a "Damon Albarn and Friends" album than a Gorillaz album
Personally, yes it is good. If you enjoy listening to 2d's voice, then I highly recommend listening to the album as it is focusing on 2d. Kansas, Humility, and Souk Eye are my personal favorites on the album.
Ok cool
Rick Astley released a new album this week called Beautiful Life, so.. that.
Welp guess I'm gonna give that a listen. Missus is gonna hate me, can't stand Rick Astley.
Yeah, no - not falling for that fool.
I listened to Bernard Purdie's new album today. That shit is super funky!
Oh wow a new Bernard album sounds great right now.
This album is a lot of fun. I’ve listened through 3 times so far. Shand Stand and The Golden Tie are my top 2 tracks.
I've been getting into music composition/production as well! Just got Logic Pro and an audio interface. My friend who makes music for a living (Birocratic, he rocks) was recommending recording covers of entire songs. My current plan is to go through all of Dear Wormwood by The Oh Hellos, because that's similar to the kind of music I want to make, and record, mix, and master every part of each song for practice.
Maybe that could be helpful for you while you're searching for inspiration! Just a thought. Best of luck!
I listen to some French hip-hop I used to listen to in the early 2000's, there's some very good stuff:

Tu connais MC Solaar?
Pas très bien, mais je me souviens que ça passait à la téloche.
The three albums on my laptop right now are Wildflower by The Avalanches, Dirty Computer by Janelle Monae, and Ekstasis by Julia Holter.
I love Wildflower (and the Avalanches in general) to death. One of the most beautiful and cohesive albums ever put together imo.
I agree 100%. There was a point in time many years ago where I had 3 CDs in my car:
The Avalanches - Since I Left You
LCD Soundsystem - 45:33
Tycho - Past Is Prologue
They got an insane number of plays because I was driving a lot at the time. SILY will always remind me of beautiful summer drives.
I love Dirty Computer. Checking out Wildflower and Ekstasis right now, will report back!
The new Ninja Sex Party track and TWRP.
I've been listening to some classic Kenny Loggins.

One of my friends in undergraduate physics was a family friend of Kenny and she would try and get us to come to her BBQ to meet him. I dont think any of us ever did but I now sort of regret it.
Here is my tapmusic grid from last.fm
So I've been listening to A Tribe Called Red, and Neon Natives, both first nations based DJ groups. Really good music, ya'll should give it a look.
I’m really enjoying the new Dirty Projector’s album, Lamp Lit Prose. I loved his epynomous album last year; this has a very different (much more upbeat) feel, but keeps most of what I liked about the last album. Also been spending time with my family this week so I’ve been hearing all about what’s new in pop country, which is... something.
Lamp Lit Prose is at the top of my wishlist right now. So far I've heard only good things.
I've been listening to the FCLC soundtrack (So much nostalgia!).

Snail's House released a new album this month, so I've been listening to that quite a bit. He's not very well known, but he makes some incredible chill music. Fairly simple instruments and samples, but the arrangements are extremely well done. I suggest you give the album a listen.
Snail's House - L'été
His new future bass song is really good too!
Listened to this recently Snail's House - Adventure
Ive circled back to RhymeSayers to discover that family has grown to like 40 hiphop artists. Ive started listening to the new ones on tour or about to tour. I submit, Prof - Andre the Giant.
I've rediscovered Green Day, and it's quite a bit different from the artists I usually listen to (in a good way).
Today I listened to the second album by Sylvan Esso, What Now, for the first time and it was pretty fuckin good
The new Deafheaven that just came out, Bell Witch, and Primitive Man.
Even though they are all metal bands, they have varying amounts of shoegaze and atmosphere to them that I find really helps me focus while working.
Same.
I've been going through the albums from Matt Berry (Douglas from IT Crowd or the titular character in Toast of London). I'm a huge fan of Opium (the album), which has kind of a 70s rock feel with the organs and stuff. I can't tell if the lyrics are comedy or serious but it works for me.
North korean music. I really love the tone of it. You should check out some of this too. It's really good.
