I took my goose to a vet because she was acting weird. So I learned a lot about goose health. She is a toulouse goose, from a hatchery, and my first goose. I wrongly thought that she would lay eggs regularly, as the ducks do, but it turns out that they lay in cycles. A few months at a time then a long break. I think the last egg of her first laying cycle got stuck because it was small, and there was nothing behind it to help it along. Gave her some pain meds and added a calcium supplement to her diet. An expensive lesson! But glad to find out she is a very healthy lady :) Since nursing her through that rough patch, she has become VERY sweet to me, which is awesome because I never imagined a goose could be friendly until I got one myself. 10/10 recommend goose ownership.

Do you now have a personal guard/ attack goose? Truly a power to be feared.

This is very wholesome. Although after reading how that egg got stuck, she seems more like a too–tight goose than a too–loose goose.

Slept terribly most of this week, with the exception of maybe two days (one of which is debatable), but I'm on my own this week with my wife out of town.

I'm already the primary care giver, stay at home parent, so this week hasn't been that different from my normal, but it's been rough, because I don't get any breaks. I'm touched out, talked out and I just want to be left alone for awhile, but I have no opportunity aside from the hour or so I get after I get the kids in bed and at that point, I just want to stare at the TV.

Tomorrow is a kids birthday party and I'm trying to figure out if I should bring the 4 year old. It's at an indoor playground, but they're small enough that they won't be able to follow their older sibling everywhere, which sounds like it'll be difficult. This is all if I can even get child care, which is up in the air.

Sunday will be running around as well and then Monday, back to the grind. I'm all done. It's been lovely to be with my kids all week and is every day, but I'm toast, I just want to quit life for awhile.

I don't really have a solid schedule, so sometimes it's difficult for me to remember what happened over a given stretch of time.

Spring started happening, it made me really happy and productive for a day or two. Cleaning up the garage and adding flooring to get ready for season 2 of my non-transactional garage café.

Rain started up again and my productivity tanked. Still making slow progress on the Solar system, hoping to get to a point of building a basic buy & sell marketplace by the time my cafe gains some traction. It's probably been the better part of a decade that I've been working on this project in some form or another (iterating, research, simplifying), and it's starting to get to the point where I feel like it might become something genuinely useful soon.

Is a non transactional cafe just a free place to hang out and drink coffee or tea or something? Sounds very pleasant!

That's the idea! I'm offering up tea, coffee, bread, snacks etc. for people and offering a place to gather in my suburban neighborhood. Most of what I serve is either directly donated or purchased...

While hiking the AT I stumbled across a couple of such donation based or pay what you can cafes. They were great!

Went to see Visions of Atlantis and Korpiklaani last night. Lost my voice from singing along, sore all over from moshing, had a great time.

Went to a conference for a few days. It's the third year that the company has hosted it and it's always a good time, I was a speaker this time and I think it went fairly well. I've been asked to present the same talk again somewhere else at a future date.

Got back home at nearly midnight and then straight back to work the next day, followed by a pub quiz with our new neighbours in the evening which was a good laugh! They're basically perfect and I'm really glad we all get on so well.

Made a big fuss of my partner and pets, who I missed a lot. Preparing my dog for his KC Good Citizen Dog bronze assessment tomorrow - he knows the material but he's a teenager so it's a complete dice roll as to whether he'll actually feel like doing it!

Also made some dough for a sundried tomato loaf this afternoon, which is currently cold proofing in the fridge. That'll be baked tomorrow and given to my grandparents on Sunday.

Got my brother in laws 30th birthday tomorrow, so free lunch and then D&D later Saturday evening with friends.

I also went for a follow up with my GP yesterday on the back of my annual blood pressure check. After monitoring my blood pressure for the past week they've agreed that it's regularly quite high, averaging around 145/100.

I've now been placed on 1.25mg of Ramipril to manage it. It was always gonna happen, my family has got a horrible history of high blood pressure, heart attack and stroke but I'm glad it's been picked up now at 34 and not at 60 after decades of damage or after potentially collapsing at home or something.

Had a rather productive week at work, the product and engineering teams were aligned on the expectations for our work so things were able to move faster than normal. It was honestly great. Doing quite a bit this weekend as well. Celebrating a friends birthday then going to a car enthusiast event near me. Looking forward to both but hoping I can make the car event as its from 9am-12pm and I usually sleep in until 10am on weekends haha.
