We user Roll20 because, despite its faults, it's the most convenient option out there, and simple to play in a browser. I've also looked into Fantasy Grounds, but haven't gotten around to learning the ropes yet. It looks perhaps a bit better (and better supported by the developers), but there's a learning curve, set up time, and doesn't immediately support as many games as Roll20 does out of the box. You might not even need that much if you run a simpler system, or don't care about combat maps or public die rolls.
We don't use webcams, just voice chat. Discord has worked a LOT better than Skype for us in terms of sound quality, features, and reliability. We just created a channel for our game, and instead of scheduling calls, we can just join the voice channel when we're ready to play. If you want to use webcams, then I think you'd need to use calls, and I'm not sure if Discord can do the Skype thing of floating a thumbnail video while you focus on another screen (e.g. Roll20).

That's two tasks, you can finish one without finishing the other, and you feel more accomplished, since you've done two things.

I like to repurpose parts in ways not originally designed to suit my needs and use that multi-million dollar R&D department of OEMs. This of course does not include anything that I am engineering and fabricating myself.

I started in dirt track way back in the day as my uncle had his own little race shop and I was there turning wrenches from the moment I could turn a bolt. Continued with drag racing when he expanded into that as well. Nah, its no longer procrastination thats the issue - being able to go colt turkey off of my ggaming addiction was a way for me to prove to myself that I have the willpower. Its just incredibly difficult for me to focus on a task for more than about an hour. What I didnt realize while I was working, like, in an office and at a desk is just how much time I ended up doing non-work in the process of a nonetheless normal workload. Sitting at home, I dont talk to anyone, and there's no variation in routine like there is in a lively workspace. I'm only accountable for the time I'm dedicating myself to specifically producing something because I'm not yet paid salary, so the result is its just difficult to continually condense what I'm doing - what would be an 8 hour day in an office is done in about 4 at home.
In exchange, I basically have total free reign over what I want to put out and I'm completely able to set when and how much I want to work. Coupled with me enjoying my job, its still great, it just takes extraordinary focus and willpower to be able to produce at such a volume.

I was wondering what I'd do "this weekend", until I checked the calendar and saw that it is this weekend for me.
Well, I've been fixing my sleep schedule lately – from going down at ~3AM and getting up at midday to going down at 8PM and getting up at 4:30AM. The last stage of the fix – with the proper timing – should start today. I've been going 20+ hours of wake time so far, wearing my body out. Today, I'll have a regular amount of wake time, yet I'll still be tired enough (from all the circadian cycle-breaking) to go to sleep as prescribed.
(The day structure becomes weird when all your life you've had the notion that about 8AM is the right time to get up. I lose the measure of proportionality of time if I don't attend to the 8AM-based schedule. Still, waking up so damn early is nice: it's quiet, dark, and I get to still use the day time while having stuff done before most people open their eyes.)
Since I'm energetic with today's sleep (and, hopefully, the rest of the sleep of my goddamn life), I'm going to work on the personal projects. I'd promised to update 2011 two months ago, and I can only get away with it now because not that many people know about it, let alone care. Anxiety is a bitch, especially when it eats away at doing things I love and have already put a lot of effort in. (The latest published version is around 10k words already.)
At this stage, I'm not making any more plans right now. I'll work on 2011, and see where the road takes me next. I have things to do, but if I'd learned anything, it's that piling up a ton of plans is doing me more harm: I get anxious, and I abandon everything. Given that I can't readily modify my own source code, working with that notion is the best solution I came up with.
Still finishing moving the files from one OS – Win 10 Pro – to another – clean Win 10 LTSC. This time, I migrated almost everything. (Last time, I forgot to migrate the massive notes I'd compiled over a year or so... yeah.) The little things left behind were the browser extension settings – particularly the uBlock Origin filters I'd accumulated over a few months. No big deal – I'll compile a new list as I come across the issues needin' fixin'.
(Since the last time, I'd made a separate folder, where I store all the installation files for the software in case I'm ever migrating the systems again. Sounds useful, and came in handy. This time, I'm also including the list of things that need saving in case I migrate, so that I lose nothing when I'm upgrading next time. The rule of thumb is: if I'm using it now, I need it.)

I just picked up a copy of Santana's Abraxas on vinyl (that I plan on giving a good few listens this weekend, I love that album!) today, but I think I might take another trip back to the record store and go through their cassettes so I have a bit more on hand to play. I've got a bit of the pooled family collection back at home in a bin somewhere, but I'd like to get a little proper collection going. There are several SB the Moor cassettes and a cd on the way, too, but I don't think they'll get here before the end of the weekend. Every music format is fun in a different way to me, so I'm glad to be taking a step back into cassettes :)
I've also been playing Super Mario Bros. 3 again and I think that might consume some time. I don't think I've ever completed every level in one playthrough, I've always ended up using the whistles at some point, so I think that's my goal this time. Such a comfortable game, playing it feels right in a way that few others do. Especially in those first couple worlds, it's less like I'm playing a game and more like I'm just completing a ritual I've repeated since childhood. I love it.
Oh, and I just kicked off my weekend with one of the happiest days I've ever had. I just started HRT and pairing the intense emotions that come from finally making it to that with some fun basic "girl power" stuff in Captain Marvel made for a weepy and excited me. It still doesn't feel real. Anyway, it's looking to be a good weekend :)

Elderly driver blew straight through a red light no braking or swerving, straight into this dude. I just made that guy's day as far as insurance claims/police reports go. I went looking forward to a particular exhibition, but when we got there I realized another exhibition that I wasn't even aware of was actually my favorite. I think I'll have to go back and get a print of a piece that really stood out to me later. The rest of the weekend was spent doing some relaxing and then adopting away my fish at the local aquarium store (my ex and I split up a while back and now I'm doing a lot of moving between rentals, so it's not practical to lug a 180L tank with me everywhere and I figured I'd find them a good home). I don't want to give away too much because it would be pretty easy for someone else to beat me to the punch, but in a nutshell, I'm modeling the style off of a much slower-paced RTS design. I don't really like today's micromanagement / base-building RTS's.
I want an RTS focused more on actual longer-term strategem and tactics, not "who can get through the memorized opening build order the fastest" + "who can micromanage the most units the fastest".
I've worked it out so I can build the full game with simple 2D placeholder graphics, then put a 3D engine on it when the actual game is finished, and then add a VR-native interface. Regardless of which interface is used, it's all the same game, so you could have a multiplayer with some people using the regular 3D interface, and others using VR. Ideally, you'd be able to hop in and out of VR at any point without interrupting gameplay.
I also want a strong single-player campaign, which means I'm going to have to read up on tactical and strategy AI. My previous AI efforts were all put into long-term individual NPC cognition so all of that is useless for this particular project. (I don't have enough money in the bank to tackle the full open-world, complex-autonomous-NPC game I really want to write.)
The units I'm going for are very simplified, which means I should be able to provide multiple cosmetic-only skins / environments as well.

Man... I have deep respect and appreciation for a person who can do that. Take various parts and assemble them in a manner that works.

I started in dirt track way back in the day as my uncle had his own little race shop and I was there turning wrenches from the moment I could turn a bolt. Continued with drag racing when he expanded into that as well. It's a great place to start, can be done for very little money, and I highly recommend it so long as you have a track within a couple of hours of you. They are sadly an endangered species though...
I work from home and recently (5 days ago) removed all things to do with gaming from my PCs, as well as reddit, so as to be able to work. 8-9 wasted hours of most days, now gone. Its gone okay so far.
So, work. Good thing I like my job! But seriously, nobody should work from home if they can help it. I wish this company could afford an office.
I have an idea: rent-an-office, for people who freelance. Could probably make some good cash if you set it up right.
This is a thing. I've seen it called coworking spaces. You can rent offices, or get memberships, or purchase time-slots. Things like that. Usually, they have kitchens and food and some staff that support to coworking office.
Never heard of it, though glad someone else thought of it before me. Where are those? I imagine San Francisco has plenty. Maybe LA. Maybe NYC? Don't know much about other countries to guess.
Yeah, unfortunately I dont make all that much doing it - even full time its only a little over a thousand a month. I'd like to get to that point someday, though!

The problem I have is that reddit is a really good resource for a lot of my hobbies, and so it’s really hard to permanently remove it.
I have a lot of the same problems working remote but a lot would be solved if I could afford an office separate from home. Or even another room.
I just removed the app from my phone and have had the self discipline not to log onto it from my PC. I was active, but only in the sense that I was pulling out my phone and compulsively checking the front page every 20 minutes or so.
Now I'm doing something similar with Tildes, lol. Not as bad about it though, and putting my phone someplace I cant see it helps.
You could give LeechBlock a try. It was recommended to me on a topic where I asked for procrastination remedies. It has some bugs going on, but generally it has been very useful to me. Works on mobile too.
Nah, its no longer procrastination thats the issue - being able to go colt turkey off of my ggaming addiction was a way for me to prove to myself that I have the willpower. Its just incredibly difficult for me to focus on a task for more than about an hour. What I didnt realize while I was working, like, in an office and at a desk is just how much time I ended up doing non-work in the process of a nonetheless normal workload. Sitting at home, I dont talk to anyone, and there's no variation in routine like there is in a lively workspace. I'm only accountable for the time I'm dedicating myself to specifically producing something because I'm not yet paid salary, so the result is its just difficult to continually condense what I'm doing - what would be an 8 hour day in an office is done in about 4 at home.
In exchange, I basically have total free reign over what I want to put out and I'm completely able to set when and how much I want to work. Coupled with me enjoying my job, its still great, it just takes extraordinary focus and willpower to be able to produce at such a volume.
Man, you're living. That's the kind of a thing that make life life.

I was wondering what I'd do "this weekend", until I checked the calendar and saw that it is this weekend for me.
Well, I've been fixing my sleep schedule lately – from going down at ~3AM and getting up at midday to going down at 8PM and getting up at 4:30AM. The last stage of the fix – with the proper timing – should start today. I've been going 20+ hours of wake time so far, wearing my body out. Today, I'll have a regular amount of wake time, yet I'll still be tired enough (from all the circadian cycle-breaking) to go to sleep as prescribed.
(The day structure becomes weird when all your life you've had the notion that about 8AM is the right time to get up. I lose the measure of proportionality of time if I don't attend to the 8AM-based schedule. Still, waking up so damn early is nice: it's quiet, dark, and I get to still use the day time while having stuff done before most people open their eyes.)
Since I'm energetic with today's sleep (and, hopefully, the rest of the sleep of my goddamn life), I'm going to work on the personal projects. I'd promised to update 2011 two months ago, and I can only get away with it now because not that many people know about it, let alone care. Anxiety is a bitch, especially when it eats away at doing things I love and have already put a lot of effort in. (The latest published version is around 10k words already.)
At this stage, I'm not making any more plans right now. I'll work on 2011, and see where the road takes me next. I have things to do, but if I'd learned anything, it's that piling up a ton of plans is doing me more harm: I get anxious, and I abandon everything. Given that I can't readily modify my own source code, working with that notion is the best solution I came up with.
Still finishing moving the files from one OS – Win 10 Pro – to another – clean Win 10 LTSC. This time, I migrated almost everything. (Last time, I forgot to migrate the massive notes I'd compiled over a year or so... yeah.) The little things left behind were the browser extension settings – particularly the uBlock Origin filters I'd accumulated over a few months. No big deal – I'll compile a new list as I come across the issues needin' fixin'.
(Since the last time, I'd made a separate folder, where I store all the installation files for the software in case I'm ever migrating the systems again. Sounds useful, and came in handy. This time, I'm also including the list of things that need saving in case I migrate, so that I lose nothing when I'm upgrading next time. The rule of thumb is: if I'm using it now, I need it.)
Probably going to spend some time outside, considering I need to start losing weight and physical activity is sorely lacking from my daily routine. It's just above 0°C here, and the snow is still around. Makes for interesting scenery. Yesterday in the shop, I forgot that it was still winter here: "Why are they still selling beanies? ...oh".
Have you listened to Jocko Podcast? Jocko's a retired Navy SEAL and a big advocate for getting up early (04:34 specifically). The podcast has interbiews with soldiers and other interesting people, and commentaries on books.
He was the one I got the 4:30 idea from. Not a fan of his, but this part, I fell in love with.
I hear you. My job has me working shifts that rotate back and forth between 6AM-6PM to 6PM-6AM every two to four weeks on a rotating schedule. I've been doing this for two years now, and it hasn't gotten any easier. When I get out of this, I never want to take any job that messes with my sleep schedule again.
Damn, that's rough! I wouldn't hack it. I feel bad after sleeping few too many hours. This? No way.
Shift work is a bitch. My father used to do that – in a mine, no less. How he managed that is beyond me.

I've got a few things in the mail to be excited about, mostly looking forward to the cassette deck which should get here some time tomorrow. I just picked up a copy of Santana's Abraxas on vinyl (that I plan on giving a good few listens this weekend, I love that album!) today, but I think I might take another trip back to the record store and go through their cassettes so I have a bit more on hand to play. I've got a bit of the pooled family collection back at home in a bin somewhere, but I'd like to get a little proper collection going. There are several SB the Moor cassettes and a cd on the way, too, but I don't think they'll get here before the end of the weekend. Every music format is fun in a different way to me, so I'm glad to be taking a step back into cassettes :)
I've also been playing Super Mario Bros. 3 again and I think that might consume some time. I don't think I've ever completed every level in one playthrough, I've always ended up using the whistles at some point, so I think that's my goal this time. Such a comfortable game, playing it feels right in a way that few others do. Especially in those first couple worlds, it's less like I'm playing a game and more like I'm just completing a ritual I've repeated since childhood. I love it.
Oh, and I just kicked off my weekend with one of the happiest days I've ever had. I just started HRT and pairing the intense emotions that come from finally making it to that with some fun basic "girl power" stuff in Captain Marvel made for a weepy and excited me. It still doesn't feel real. Anyway, it's looking to be a good weekend :)

I'm only halfway through but it's very good so far. I don't know if it's on Netflix everywhere, but Netflix Canada has it.
I'm going to work on my novel set during the Nazi era in Germany (from the late 20s thru the war's end). Got about 250 pages left to write, and while it is kind of fun, it's also a heck of a lot of work. I've been doing a lot of research into Hitler's life from the time he left Landsberg fortress up till he becomes Chancellor. There are so many very important incidents that take place, I cannot possibly include even half of them. I'll probably self publish it as a Kindle book.

I used to ride a 50cc scooter and like the first or second day I started using a GoPro on my commute I filmed a guy get fuckin t-boned but luckily it clipped the back end. Elderly driver blew straight through a red light no braking or swerving, straight into this dude. I just made that guy's day as far as insurance claims/police reports go. Don't think that intersection had a camera. Anyway. I like having a camera on my person or directly filming at all times. Riding a bicycle in Los Angeles can be pretty exciting sometimes lol
This weekend I went to a photography museum with a guy I'm dating. I went looking forward to a particular exhibition, but when we got there I realized another exhibition that I wasn't even aware of was actually my favorite. I think I'll have to go back and get a print of a piece that really stood out to me later. The rest of the weekend was spent doing some relaxing and then adopting away my fish at the local aquarium store (my ex and I split up a while back and now I'm doing a lot of moving between rentals, so it's not practical to lug a 180L tank with me everywhere and I figured I'd find them a good home). Finally, I annoyed my neighbors by singing badly on Smule.

Gonna be watching this playlist which is an accompaniment / extended overview of Martin Hilpert's intro textbook to Construction Grammar theory and research. It is roughly 10 hours long, but I want to finish it quickly so that tomorrow I can prepare a good draft of my SoP for the master's I'll be applying to in two weeks.
I want to also go back to regular workouts. I skipped jumping rope yesterday (I want to do a workout session every other day), so maybe I squeeze it in today. IDK if it is better to do an hour long block every other day, or alternate between some calistenics one day and some cardio the next.

I'm working on an RTS game, a 16-bit virtual machine (aka. an emulator for a computer than never actually existed in hardware), then probably get stoned and play Nintendo Classic.
I don't want to give away too much because it would be pretty easy for someone else to beat me to the punch, but in a nutshell, I'm modeling the style off of a much slower-paced RTS design. I don't really like today's micromanagement / base-building RTS's.
I want an RTS focused more on actual longer-term strategem and tactics, not "who can get through the memorized opening build order the fastest" + "who can micromanage the most units the fastest".
I've worked it out so I can build the full game with simple 2D placeholder graphics, then put a 3D engine on it when the actual game is finished, and then add a VR-native interface. Regardless of which interface is used, it's all the same game, so you could have a multiplayer with some people using the regular 3D interface, and others using VR. Ideally, you'd be able to hop in and out of VR at any point without interrupting gameplay.
I also want a strong single-player campaign, which means I'm going to have to read up on tactical and strategy AI. My previous AI efforts were all put into long-term individual NPC cognition so all of that is useless for this particular project. (I don't have enough money in the bank to tackle the full open-world, complex-autonomous-NPC game I really want to write.)
The units I'm going for are very simplified, which means I should be able to provide multiple cosmetic-only skins / environments as well.
