What did you do this weekend?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their weekend. Did you make any plans? Take a trip? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
I built my computer with my boyfriend! Hooray! It's very snappy and this is my very first desktop I've had that's my own. It wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be but there were a lot of small parts to plug in and tiny screws that got frustrating. We also missed an adapter so the USB on the front panel doesn't work yet.
Otherwise I didn't get any LED stuff, not my cup of tea. All I did was put a vinyl of bongo cat on the glass window of my tower. He looks neat. I'm super happy but I also have to debate on what fonts and other misc. shit I want to put the time and effort to put over onto my computer. I'm keeping it pretty clean and using my surface as a glorified hard drive. I also have to work on getting my paint tool Sai brushes in order. That's mildly annoying.
Overall it was a fun experience! I'm not the most tech savvy person, but I definitely have a greater appreciation for computers than I did before lol. I also did a benchmark test and got UFO! Except for my graphics card, that's a raft.
We had a huge storm here, so I spent a good part of yesterday out cutting up large branches with a handsaw and transporting the branches to the front for the city-wide cleanup, both on my property and on some neighbours.
It's amazing what a branch the thickness of my arm can weigh; my wife and oldest daughter had to help me move a lot of them.
Went to try to see the comet Neowise with my brothers n Friday, didn't pan out because we were on a beach south of Los Angeles, so light pollution and air pollution ruined that.
I also bought a Japanese Gameboy Pocket, in the style of the original gray Game Boy (it's a Japanese exclusive color apparently), that had a damaged screen so I can replace it with a backlit one, something I've been trying to find for the right price.
I met with a support group for transgender people on the other side of Milano. Unfortunately, they have stopped meeting for the summer, and the group will only be back from mid-September. We had pizza, though.
I went on a small bike ride, looking for a trailer attatchment for my bike. I got a bike trailer for free last Friday. I couldn’t find anything though, so I’ll have to keep looking. I’ll also have to find something to fill up the trailer since it is only a frame with no bottom wall.
Last week I also fixed my bike so I’m pretty pumped to go on rides.
I also went stand up paddling yesterday. I tried to see how fast I could go and fell in for the first time. (I heard you should not land on your board, and falling into the water was kind of freeing)
I mostly want my bike trailer to transport this (Inflatable) stand up paddle Since a 10kg backpack while biking seems like a no go
Edit: I also forgot. We had a maaaajor breakthrough in a feature we have been developing for months. That was a very satisfying moment when it finally worked
Went on a short 13km trek across Tyresta National Park with my partner. She had a bad case of cabin fever and wanted to get out of the apartment; I was desperately keen to do anything that guaranteed the remote chance of some extreme social distancing within the bounds of Stockholm.
It may not have been the kind of hiking we've done in previous summers up in Jämtland, but it was a nice feeling to get the hiking boots back on, for sure!
We've had some really great produce at our local farm stand, so we spent the weekend canning! Peach jam, pickles, pickled greenbeans, salsa, and jalapenos. We also went to the Andy Warhol museum in Pittsburgh, which was practically empty, and enjoyed an excellently curated presentation.
My parents came to visit from out of state, so I hung out with them. Since covid is still a thing we didn't go anywhere really, but we spent that quality family time together which was nice. I also swam in a community pool -- I haven't been swimming in years so I'd forgotten how wonderful it is. I'd definitely like to go back.
OH ! And I made some sourdough bread, the best I've made so far, I think!
