What did you do this weekend?
As part of a weekly series, these topics are a place for users to casually discuss the things they did — or didn't do — during their weekend. Did you make any plans? Take a trip? Do nothing at all? Tell us about it!
My step-mom recently moved to a smaller house after my dad passed away and she was kind enough to gift a bunch of furniture to me and my partner, which arrived midweek.
Our house now looks pretty similar to how it did when we first moved in with bits of furniture all about and furniture blankets everywhere, but pretty much all of it was put together this weekend so things are looking slightly better.
Now I need to figure out what to do with these blankets. Maybe I'll make a super big fort.
Moving/Furniture blankets are usually pretty well made. If you don't need them you should maybe consider donating them. Apparently lots of charity and non-profit organizations actively seek them out, and so will probably gladly take them off your hands: See: https://blog.uscargocontrol.com/consider-donating-used-moving-blankets/
I didn't do a whole lot -- hung around the house Saturday, did some chores, but not too many -- Saturday night we went over to friends' house to hang out and play some board games. Clue is new, apparently.
Hung out in IRC a lot this weekend.
This weekend I tried to not be sad about the recent vacancy on the Supreme Court and what that will likely mean for deciding cases over the next 2+ decades but failed. I tried not be angry that Republicans have gotten pretty much everything they wanted over these last 4 years and will continue applying their will on the populace basically unimpeded, but I failed at that too. I tried not be frustrated that no matter how this election turns out there's likely to be a massive, lengthy shitshow for everyone to deal with, but failed there as well.
I am now trying to make some tasty baked goods, so hopefully that will end up being the success I've been looking for. Small though it would be.
I hope you find some solace. It's been a rough year 💜
Friday evening a partner came over and did a fantastic job fucking me. I have not been properly fucked like that in A G E S. Woke up and cooked breakfast for us the next day.
Saturday afternoon I went on a first date with a new person. They are genderfluid but were presenting female the day we met. We decided on a socially distanced picnic by the beach at a nice little park which ended in going to a nearby yogurtland for frozen yogurt. It was absolutely delightful. I really, really like her and I'm trying not to fall for her too quickly because the last time that happened my heart was broken in an extremely distressing manner. We have plans to meet up again on Tuesday, and they seem just as into me as I am into them.
Saturday evening I went over to another partners place to offer some apparently very needed cuddles. We didn't do much outside of listening to music and cuddling. The next morning we decided to go to a German food place by the water and oh my god they had fantastic authentic German food and a good beer selection. We will be going back for sure.
Sunday evening I drove to my parents house and hung out in the backyard socially distanced for a few hours. It's been awhile since I've had a chance to do that (1-2 months) and it was nice to catch up.
Saturday: Got off work at 6am. Went home and tried to nap but had to get up and go back to work at 10am for what ended up being a 4 hour meeting. Then had to go to a birthday party for a 12 year old before going home around 6pm, catching my second wind, and being up until midnight
Sunday: After a sleeping almost 12 hours, got up around 11:30am to go to my brothers house, an hour and a half drive away, for my 4 year old nephews Star Wars themed birthday party. I was expected to be in full Jedi robes. Which I was. But apparently it scared my nephew and he refused to have any pictures taken with me.
Then I came home and games for a bit before going to bed.
Edited my resume and hung out with my partner and our puppy. Did some studying for classes and decided to try out Windows Server to learn Active Directory.
Painted some minis!
Mini Coopers?
Took the travel trailer out camping at a nearby lake. We brought the canoe, but it was a little bit too chilly and too windy to take it out, so we went on a very short hike instead. Stumbled upon a tree identification test on said hike, where little placards stated what the different trees were. One of us would run up, cover the placard, and make the other two guess what it was. None of us were very successful, but it was a fun game. Ate lots of s'mores, meatless hotdogs, and baked beans.
I got quite a bit of reading done over the past week, and I started reading Southern Cunning by Aaron Oberon during the trip, which is about folklore and witchcraft in the American south.
I drove 5 hours round-trip to buy 8x beautiful small Discus for my aquarium. These particular specimens are were imported from the famous Stendker breeder out of Germany. Discus are essentially my "endgame" freshwater aquarium fish that I've been dreaming about keeping since I got back into the hobby several years ago. Here's a quick shot I just took of three of my German Wonders.
Unrelated to the fish, I listened to most of Talking To Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell during the drive. I highly recommend it.
Had a grill party with my friends (I am pretty sure there's a better word for that in English). I used my skateboard as transport to get there, which is a ton of fun and super fast and convenient as always, but this time there was kind of a big hill that I stupidly tried to bomb. So I scraped my knee kind of bad on the way but whatever, that's life! We grilled some stuff we brought, talked a lot and drank a bit - it was a ton of fun. I had some veggie sausages which were actually surprisingly pretty good. Good times.
My fast went drastically wrong on saturday. I thought having some flavoured sugarfree sparkling water wouldnt hurt but it fucked me up. By saturday evening i exhausted and nauseous. I dreaded even sitting up in bed, on sunday morning i struggled to get to the bathroom and nearly passed out while standing up from the toilet, vision went black and had to sit back down. For the first time ever i had to ask for someone else to do the dogs morning walk which really worried my family. I got some pineapple juice (tasted fucking amazing) and a banana down my neck and started recovering. It took all day but i feel fine today.
I dont know whether it was the acidity regulators or the flavouring that affected me so much because I dont think it was the small amount of calories as i was having a drop of milk in my morning coffee.
God knows, lost 7kg over the week though, so still worth it.
Went to the woods and picked a fekk ton of mushrooms with my mother-in-law and husband. Came home with about 5kg's of Chantarelle (I think thats the English word for it: "Forest Gold" anyway) and 1kg of mixed mushrooms.
Then I sorted out my personal portfolio website to a point I sort of like and finished some work.
