Anyone else notice that YouTube took away the kebab menu from shorts?
Just noticed.
Please tell me this isn't permanent. I really use the option "Don't Recommend This Channel" a lot.

Where in the UI did the kebab menu disappear from for you? I still see it on videos in the Shorts section on Desktop: https://i.imgur.com/PvSTxWg.png
Edit: Just checked, and it's still there for me on the iOS YouTube app too (top right of video).
Same location on the Android app, so far at least.
TIL it's called the kebab menu
Off-topic lighthearted tangent, why do the techy people use food names so much?? We all know cookies. Those menus with three bars you usually see on mobile apps are hamburger menus. And now kebab menus? Heck, even data is measured in bytes. There's a definite theme here.
Now I wonder what a hot dog or taco menu would look like...
Kebab menus are 3 dots vertically, 3 dots horizontally are meatball menus! At least that's what I've learned from my FE designers.
And the food naming convention for menu icons just keep going, too. E.g.
who told stairs to be there?!?!
What, you've never eaten stairs before? You're missing out! :P
i just tried some and it broke my teeth, i can sue you now for forcing me to eat stairs right?
I was onboard until it got to cheeseburger. I don’t think that’s a real icon.
They lost me at fries. Why are the fries sideways?
...and then I remembered how I positioned my fry container from dinner last night in order to get my grubby little paw in there and was forced to admit that they were right.
Half a byte? A nibble.
This is what I have with a desktop copy of Librewolf

Isn't that it in the top right of the video? That's the same location it is on iOS too.
Ah, they moved the menu. It was always the bottom right for me.
Same in desktop Chromium
I think they likely mean on the homepage feed. There is occasionally a Shorts section insert, which you can hide for one month via the kebab menu.
Mine is already hidden, so I can't confirm, but it sounds like that option may have been removed.
edit: Ah, sounds like you were right and it was just confusion over a moved button.
Ah, yeah I already have mine disabled too... so I guess I will have to wait the 7 days or whatever idiotic length of time YouTube has it set up to automatically reappear again afterwards before I can check.
p.s. I fucking hate them so much for that temporary disabling thing too. :/ No, YouTube, I don't think you really understand what I mean when I click "Not Interested" on your shitty Shorts insert... I don't want to see Shorts EVER again ANYWHERE on your site. And God's what I wouldn't give to be able to automatically stop them from appearing in the Subscriptions Notifications dropdown too. I ended up having to migrate all my YouTube subscriptions to an RSS reader to handle my Notifications now to avoid them, while also using the playlist_id=UULF trick so they don't pollute the channel RSS feed too.
I use RSS for videos too, though I found that playlist feeds specifically had a quantity limit where they stopped picking up updates (I want to say at 20 videos). As a result, I've had to follow channel feeds directly instead. A little annoying for channels like CrashCourse, where I want to follow specific courses but end up seeing everything. Though I guess it's an excuse to see a wider variety of content as well.
Note I've not tested this in a few years, so things may have changed.
Yeah, the UULF channel playlist feeds only list the most recent 15 videos for the channel, IIRC. But I have my RSS reader set to scan every 30min, and save the last 50 entries... so unless a channel posts 15+ videos in that 30min since my last scan, or I don't check on a channel in a really long time until it goes over the 50 count, I shouldn't miss anything from them.
The RSS reader I'm currently using, Feedbro, also has "Rules" I can set up to filter/tag the videos from channels too. I also have lots of channels I am only subscribed to for one particular series and I don't care about the rest of their videos, so I make liberal use of that feature. E.g. I have it set to automatically favorite "Mystery Menu" episodes from the NYT Cooking channel. And I also have it set to automatically deleted any entry from any channel with "Trump" in the title too.
This is the UBO filter I use on YT shorts. Several months in, it's worked so far with no complaints, I haven't seen any of those Shorts servings on my YT home/subs page.
