Really hoping there’s an easy fix for this, because it’s making using my phone a pain. Relevant info:
- I never actually set up a fingerprint, and have only used passwords.
- phone memory is almost full (I have too many photos I still haven’t offloaded, I don’t use iCloud)
- I did drop the phone earlier today, but there was no visible external damage
- case does not cover the home button
- I’ve tried force restart, it didn’t work

Are there any downsides to installing a newer (unsupported) macOS on an older MacBook Pro?

I happen to be in possession of a 2013 MacBook Pro that runs macOS 11 Big Sur and it's decent for that.
Let's say I wanted to run the latest apps and macOS on it, things that don't work on Big Sur. I know there are unofficial ways to get those on the MacBook, OpenCore Legacy Patcher is what most articles recommend that I've seen.
Has anyone here tried that, and were there any big problems with that setup? Were there any broken apps or features after upgrading? Did everything become slower?

Long story short--I don't want to connect my mac to my iCloud account, but every time I login to my laptop, I get three popups in a row that say "This Mac Can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with [my email] ...".
I can't find a setting that allows me to disable this, and online searches have been fruitless.

My wife has an ipad pro, and we have a baby monitor. So I was watching the baby monitor and noticed that her ipad was also in view of the camera. What I also noticed is that her ipad seems to flash an infrared light every minute or so.
After some googling I think this is the lidar scanner, although I'm not 100% sure.
Anyway, does anyone know why her ipad is doing this? It feels pretty creepy that a device is scanning your house all the time. Normally you don't even notice, it's only when you view the iPad pro from a camera that also shows infrared.
Maybe I'm just a little paranoid, but it feels like a privacy violation.

I just received an Unknown Tracker alert on my Pixel 7 running Android 14 beta 5 for an Apple air tag that was on my son in laws key chain as I had borrowed his car.
I heard this was coming but didn't expect it so soon!
Quite impressed with both the information given and the general advice and steps to take offered.
The first notification was "Tracker Travelling With You: Unknown Apple air tag detected. The owner can see your location."
Touching "more info" then shows a map of where the tracker has been with me and the option to make the tracker play a sound to help locate it, with a note that the owner won't know you've done that.
Then more advice and options:
- If you feel unsafe, get help.
- Get and save tracker info
- Disable the tracker (with a how-to guide on battery removal)
And a ”need more help" link.
As I said, I had heard about this coming but was pleasantly surprised at how good it was and the general advice and help offered up.
Nice seeing things like this done right.

I've never owned macs for desktop use because of the expense and my general preference for windows pcs.
I had a first or second gen iPhone and was incredibly frustrated by how limited it was - you couldn't set an alternate default browser, access your own file system, customize you home screen, etc, etc. So I've been an Android user since then.
I'm not really looking to make a switch for either phone or PC, but my brother bought an Apple watch which spurred a conversation that made me realize I don't really know if the issues that bugged me about Apple are still relevant in 2023.
Anyone want to weigh in?
