Are there certain conditions where an "Exemplary" label does not show?

I just used the label on a comment and to my surprise it is not visible for me, neither is it visible when I log out.
On other comments I do see the label in both situations. This makes me think there is a condition where the label is now shown or that something might be up with tildes itself.

I've fixed that specific label now. I'll try to have a look later to see if I can figure out why, I don't know offhand.

I don’t think there is any logic to hide an exemplary label. At least none that I have heard of. Maybe it didn’t actually make it to the server? Or you were in your cooldown period?

Something did make it to the server as I now no longer have the label available for use anymore. Which I did have before I tried to apply the label.

If someone misused or overused the Exemplary label, it can be turned off for that person, but from my experience, someone would tell them if that was the case.

In those cases I'd expect the label to not be available at all as a choice, right? In this case it was available, the text input popped up, just when I hit apply/send nothing happened.

Not necessarily. On my account it shows up as an option, I can push the button and the option will disappear for eight hours, but the post in question will not be marked.

I'm very curious what you did to lose out on Exemplary label privileges. Didn't even know that was a possibility.

Dunno about moocow, but the deimos has definitely taken away site features when people have used them in ways he didn't like. For example

Wow, thank you for linking that. One of the rare discussions online where I can totally understand where both sides are coming from. I admire your principles.

Misuse and overuse of the label for petty humor. If I ran the site, I probably would have made the same call.

I feel that transparency and clear messaging is key for moderating why community. The effects of moderating should not be confusable with bugs. Things like shadow banning features, where they appear to work but silently don't, strike me as unnecessarily passive and less productive than being forthcoming.

This is all off topic as this doesn't appear to be a moderation issue. I'm mostly chiming in because I regularly see threads like this on tildes, where people try to read tea leaves to understand if they've been moderated or if there's a bug. But people should generally always know when and how and why they've been moderated.

I'd only carve out exceptions for users who are both (a) malicious and needing moderation and (b) specifically trying to work around moderation, in which case shadow moderation might be the only way to keep them distracted.

It's also possible the Deimos personally removed the exemplary label, though that's fairly rare (and it sounds like there wasn't time for that).
