My city bus just had an onboard computer crash and shutdown while travelling
Title says it all. Panels went dark and motor shutoff while bus was still in motion. Driver did a great job and brakes did not fail. No injuries.
I tried to capture reboot sequence but fumbled my phone :(. Mildly distressing that this is a thing that happens…
Edit
Note this happened twice in a row. The first time eveything powered down completely. The driver stopped the bus, waited a minute, rebooted and off we went. The second time, lights stayed on, but everything else blipped. Deiver restarted engine (presumably for ac) and radioed for help.
That's interesting, who is the manufacturer of the vehicle?
Good question. There appear to be at least 4, passenger sign display, fare, something for the driver, and engine control.
The fare system looks like some kind of *nix. The passenger display appears to be a custom firmware type device made by sunrise systems. The drivers system and ec i have no information.
I would guess either ec or driver’s system are a master control.
I think they meant who manufactures the bus itself?
City buses usually don't advertise the maker's name, depends on their contract with the transport corporation while supplying the buses.
There is also the case that most of the electronic retrofitting may have been done post purchase by different contractors. Only the city admin can tell who supplied the exact equipments and who did the assembly, if any.
Looks like gillig or proterra
We have electric busses in our town, one time the bus computer crashed when the bus was at rest. It took about a minute to reboot, it wasn’t a lot of drama.
That's pretty freaky. Glad you're all right.

cough *reliable electronics* cough
Huh. I've been on busses where the displays power cycle but the bus power has never seemed to be affected. Glad nothing bad happened!
