This is a problem for a lot of cities and I normally try not to begrudge anyone for their choice of employment, since to some I'm a monster as well, but who wants to be a tow driver and, not only a tow driver, also be completely beholden to police orders even if there's errors on the tow request?

Like, I could see how some poor schmuck who just needs an income and is okay with doing the work could, ya know, do it but then being required to do the police's dirty work without the ability to say "Hey, scene has no violation or needs specialized equipment"? Jeez.

Granted, in my biased opinion, they're both likely scum who make a quick buck off of terrorizing the good people of the city and unfortunately nothing is likely to change from this story but... Damn. What a corner to be into if you've got a shred of moral fiber.

I am not kidding, the story is just plain ridiculous. See this Half as interesting video for a relative short explainer, or this Climate Town video for a longer explainer.

The money was used up within a year and now the city has lost that revenue for decades.

Sounds like they may be just towing cars and then getting a cop to write a ticket afterward? Either way, they towed it improperly, so they're at fault too.

Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, a close childhood friend's dad was convicted of being one of the contractors involved with the Hired Truck Program, where private trucks were hired at inflated rates to do literally nothing, and kickbacks were paid to Democratic city leaders.

My gut says that the towing company illegally towed this woman's car and then paid off a cop to write the ticket. These contractors are the sketchiest folks.
