I think the 90's is primarily notable for what changed. The world went from no internet, to the dot com boom. I'll bet one of the kids is really into early dial up internet. That alone should be worth a few gags. Then going from Bush to Clinton to Bush. I'll bet George Foreman has a few things to say about that.
And this show isn't likely to be just about what 90s had/ didn't have vs now. It will probably also be about 90s kids trying to figure out old 70s tech like 8-tracks.
I guess you're right it is just s a teaser as you say so they might wanna lure people in with the old set of the 70s and then slowly turn up the references.

But, also, I'm kind of glad. There's a problem with shows set in the past where they just cram it to the gills with references. People have said this bout Stranger Things - it feels a bit unreal because the 80s stuff has just been plastered over everything.
The 60's, 70's and 80's were all incredibly distinctive in terms of fashion. From the 90's onwards, we sort of settled on jeans, hoddies and t-shirts. Edit: And Cargo shorts. How could I forget...

The fact that there isn't at least one kid in JNCOs is a travesty, and totally unrealistic! :P
I will now be disappointed if that 90's show doesn't have at least one rave with everyone bedangled out in glow in the dark jewlery, suckers, and with at least one furry backpack/ furry onesie.

Yes! They were banned in schools for being "gang-related." My little brother used to wear our older brother's jean shorts, which made for the baggiest JNCO-style pants imaginable haha

JNCOs weren't banned in my school, but our chain wallets eventually were for supposedly similar reasons, even though they weren't gang related at all... we just thought they looked cool. :P

I never saw anyone wearing those skater style long belts, but the belts with all the holed rivets or studs in them were super popular at my school. Same with the similar looking leather chokers...

And then the 2010s happened and it’s all been pretty similar. 10 years ago we all dressed the same, we listened to music that sounds kind of the same.

I guess because I grew up with grandparents that lived in a house like it was out of the 70s well into the 90s I felt right at home with this teaser. Some of the things I noticed was the the appliances, sliding door and other hardware had been upgraded to definitely be from the era. The basement reminded me of my youngest uncles setup in my grandparents basement of old 70-80s hand me down furniture and the super nintendo. The thing that really ruined the overall tone was the car at the start, if they wanted to really establish the early 90s, it should have been like an 80s brutalist style car like an the 85 oldsmobile cutlass.
Not only does it feel like a typical grand parents time capsule, I feel right at home also because the set looks practically unchanged from that 70's show.

For me it's like, "I know all of these sets and two of the leads from That 70s Show, so this reminds me of their weirdo-sitcom version of the 70s". I think I spotted an oversized plaid shirt....

Honestly, I grew up in the 90s and I plain don't think that decade is all that interesting. You had Nirvana and... I dunno... Jurassic Park? I guess the internet started out but the average basement-dwelling teenager didn't have access to it until like 1999 and there were no social networks or anything, just porn and a few nerdy forums.
Actually, my theory is that the only reason pop culture is measured in decades are the 60s, which just brought so much social and cultural change over the span of 10 years, it blew people's minds. 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s and 10s basically just had one style of pants and a band.
Grunge, skaters, Britpop, ska, Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, the Coen Brothers, TNG, Friends, Seinfeld, The X-Files, Buffy, The Simpsons, Tamagotchis, Super Nintendo, Michael Jordan, Trash TV,...

So the kids look much younger than the 1970s gang and, while that is logical, it doesn't look good. The Goldbergs is more 90s than this. Feels like a Nickelodeon show. Yeah.. no that's not working...

Yeah, it's really not clear who they're targeting. Older viewers who like The '70s Show will be turned off by the Nickelodeon teens vibe, and younger Gen Z viewers won't care at all.

I didn't get my sense of the 90s, but I'm British and in the UK my group went into the 90s with a mix of indie pop, goth, and Madchester. Shane Meadows' series "This is England" does a really good job of capturing that.
But, also, I'm kind of glad. There's a problem with shows set in the past where they just cram it to the gills with references. People have said this bout Stranger Things - it feels a bit unreal because the 80s stuff has just been plastered over everything.
Did you get a sense of the 70s from the British attempt at That 70s Show?

Valid points.
You could've told me this took place in 2000, 2010, or 2020 and I'd have an easier time believing it than that this takes place in the 90s.
The 60's, 70's and 80's were all incredibly distinctive in terms of fashion. From the 90's onwards, we sort of settled on jeans, hoddies and t-shirts. Edit: And Cargo shorts. How could I forget the cargo shorts.

Yeah, I am a little out of date and time here, I thought 90's was more electric dance music, raves and such forth.
I was an early 90s teen (and hardcore raver)... so that era was at the peak of my fashion blunder years! :P
I will now be disappointed if that 90's show doesn't have at least one rave with everyone bedangled out in glow in the dark jewlery, suckers, and with at least one furry backpack/ furry onesie.
LOL, yeah, they better have a few happy hardcore candy ravers as extras, at the very least, or I am calling for a boycott of the show! :P

I guess they won't have smart phones?
The kid's clothes are decently representative of the 90s, but that's it.

I mean, I give you grunge. But that's mostly teenagers being disinterested as a life goal.
So the kids look much younger than the 1970s gang and, while that is logical, it doesn't look good.
