This might be John (and his team) best work to date. A lot of his episodes are delivered with a general tone of outrage and drama, sprinkled heavily with jokes. This episode of full of just anger. Just raw rage born of having to watch all of the videos, tweets, and news that he and his team consume on a weekly basis. Except this last 2 weeks have been nothing but Police exemplifying the exact thing that they're being called to account for.

If you don't want to watch the entire 30min segment (and you really should), you should watch the last 2 minutes, look at the haunted look in John's eyes, and then go do something to help your fellow citizens.

This interview clip from the end was unbelievable. In a moment like that, I doubt I would be anywhere near that articulate.

This is 100 times better in full context than just the clip John Oliver showed. I wish there was more attention to explaining exactly how black people are disadvantaged, because I think a large group of well-intentioned non-rascist people genuinely don't understand, simply because it's outside their realm of experiences. I am not even blaming these people, it always takes effort to understand the perspective of someone whose experience you don't share. This applies to me as well; I've definitely been wrong simply due a lack of understanding, and almost certainly will be again in the future. I try, but it's hard.

Our media is extremely inept at telling these kind of perspectives; for a large part it just says "this happened today, and now for the weather" and then leaves it to people to draw their own conclusions from that. It's no surprise people just see chaos and looting and then go "yikes" if they don't understand the full context and perspectives. I think this kind of misguided "we're just showing the unbiased truth"-kind of neutralism is extremely harmful in many different ways – this is just one particular egregious example.

Defund police? Maybe. Defund the media? Hell yeah.

PS. Last Week Tonight is so much better without audience. I wish it stays like that.

Here is the Trevor Noah's clip she references to, which I think is worth watching as well.

That was spectacular. Not a moment of it was wasted or unnecessary.

Invidious does not work around regional restrictions. There are however unofficial reuploads floating around that do not have the restrictions.

Given @Omnicrola's raving review, I'm going to give this episode a shot. Last Week Tonight has the power to produce some of the more masterful journalism on TV, which is exactly what I want from it.

Heads-up: the video wasn't made available by the uploader in the UK. Are there any ways around that?

You can use one of those sketchy youtube video downloading websites since a lot of them are hosted in the US.
