Just like I did with
DisenchantedDisenchantment, I'll give it a few episodes to see if it gains footing. Right now it's a fairly average and fairly bland show that doesn't really need to be set in the Star Trek universe.Do you mean Disenchantment?
Yes, that's the one.
What’s your opinion on the show?
I got a couple of chuckles from it, but the characters aren't particularly interesting and the animation and writing are pretty generic. We'll see if some good character arcs develop or if the writing improves but as a long-time Star Trek fan who has been continuously disappointed in the franchise since the mid-2000's, I'm not holding out a ton of hope for this one.
I recently watched the 2-part Half in the Bag videos about their favorite TNG episodes and enjoyed them, but it made me realize how much I miss Gene Roddenberry and the intelligence, depth and heart he put into his shows.
Sorry, I was asking about your opinion on Disenchantment.
Sorry, I'm a bit off today.
7/10 for Disenchantment. Unique characters, mostly entertaining plotlines, variety of types of jokes.
That's the problem with single-word titles. Even cheeky punny ones often fail to prepare a sufficient mnemonic for themselves and the media they represent. I don't think an unevocative title makes the thing worse, but they are very easy to forget.
I started enjoying Disenchantment when I stopped thinking of it as contemporary comedy.
It’s like some old Asterix cartoon.
Episode is available
worldwide with exceptions, and for a limited time only. (EDIT: Apparently they changed it to US only.)As I said in the pre thread, it's a'ight. It feels like it's a little too deferent to Star Trek to criticize the premise of Star Trek, and also trying to be a half hour comedy, as opposed to the Orville where it passes the TNG sniff test, and then breaks the formula for humor. Comedy is subjective though, and Lower Decks works enough for me that I am willing to see it out for a bit.
I'm conflicted honestly. Trying to cram together the nihilistic aesthetic of Rick & Morty with the generally optimistic tone Star Trek universe is really jarring and not in a "hmm that's an interesting contrast" way.
As someone mentioned in a previous discussion, I think if this was a standalone show that parodied/satirized the Star Trek universe I think it would be better. As it is, my brain is trying to fit the characters into the existing esthetic and they really don't fit. R&M has a very distinctive and unique style that works for it, and a really clever and talented team. However I don't think it works well here. Maybe it'll turn out to be great after a season or two, but I can't say that I'm interested in watching more at this point.
Hang on I think I've been sold on this by the fan pandering, which is executed here successfully for the very first time since the new wave began. It is still in shallow throwback territory but I'm not going to take it for granted that they've managed finally to put their finger on some of the tone that a fan like me actually misses and would be drawn to the new series to experience again. They have really struggled to throw us a bone. If the Rick and Morty style is a poor fit at least it is the interface which has allowed star trek to sound like itself again -- I love the theme sequence, the episodic structure (anything's better than nonsensical serials), the setting.. I agree that this could go quite flaccid after this first episode which I assume has been punched up to draw in a loyal crowd, but I think I'm going to try it.
I enjoyed it. It's light-hearted, fun, and I like that the main character sounds like a star trek fan who gets to live in the star trek universe
Not available in Brazil.
You can dump out of region videos into streamable and cut them up. Pretty handy for us not in the US.
It was worldwide for a bit, then it was changed to US only for who-knows-what reason.
Could someone maybe rehost this somewhere? I’m not with acess to a computer.
