I had been considering getting YouTube Premium because I feel bad about using the website while blocking all their ads, but $14/month is ridiculous. Even the annual plan lowering that to more like $12/month is too much. Nebula is just $5/month and that's a creator-owned company that has to actually be sustainable and grow at the same time while having a much smaller userbase. $5/month is a reasonable price, $14/month is not

They're somehow ignoring the bigger request? Dolphin should really be laying low. First thing a lawyer always says is to not make public statements. I'm surprised their lawyer did not tell them to...

Nintendo made no demands and made only a single request to Valve.

We specifically request that Dolphin’s “coming soon” notice be removed and that you ensure the emulator does not release on the Steam store moving forward.

They're somehow ignoring the bigger request?

Nintendo requests that Valve retain backup copies of anything removed, and retain any communications Valve may have received or does receive from the Dolphin developers.

Is it on the parents to know what girls will be into when their son will be of age and mold him to be that? I think parents telling a child to be one way because that's what girls are into is really damaging. Parents are often really bad at knowing what girls in their children's generation are into. Let the kid be who they want to be, and if at some age they want to change to be attractive to the kind of people they're attracted to, they can do that. Especially considering about 20% of gen z adults, ie people age 18-25, which is the youngest group we have polling for afaik, are lgbt+, which makes the arguments kind of fall apart anyway

started reading Charles Perrault: The Complete Fairy Tales - A new translation by Christopher Betts (2009). From doing some looking around, it seems to be the best standard translation of Charles Perrault's French fairy tales, translating all the verse stories and morals into verse. Only read the first two so far, the first of which was The History of Griselda, which is kind of wild. Story is told from the point of view of a prince who marries this woman and treats her horribly and is like damn, she put up with all that, good for her. Unlike other women, she's cool. According to the introduction, this version of the story is written to give more of an emphasis to how awful the prince is and be more sympathetic to Griselda than other versions of the story, but still wild. I can see why this is not one of the fairy tales that has endured in popular culture, unlike many, if not most, of the stories in this book. The verse is kind of weird because it feels like it should be in iambic pentameter and it almost is, but isn't quite, so it's kind of just mid rhyming, but it's cute idk. Dunno how it compares to the original French

I grew up with Sega Smash Pack 2 on Windows XP. Did not know that they were not PC games. Did not know what a console was. I had a blast playing Sonic 2 though. Along with Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, Shining Force, Super Hang-On, Flicky, probably more I'm forgetting. Sonic 2 was an arcade game for me, since there were no save states or anything. I'd sit down and be like let's give this another go. Last for like two hours when I was only supposed to be playing on the computer for one hour, die in that factory level with the red enemies that punch you with the spiked arms. Good times. Played it more recently and got to the final boss, and at that point it's just ridiculous. Weirdly, despite my love for Sonic 2, I have not been able to get into any other Sonic game. I'll have to give one another try though

I've heard the UI used to be awful, but I tried it for the first time like a year or two ago and the UI was reasonably good, so I think it's gotten much better

Until Debian 12, which was just released to stable less than a month ago, I couldn't easily connect my laptop with its nvidia optimus gpu to an external display, and nonfree firmware was not in the default download. Now that they've fixed those issues though, Debian is a fine choice I think. I think it might still be less user-friendly than some other options like Linux Mint or Pop!_OS, neither of which I've actually tried, but idk it's pretty user-friendly now I think. Definitely agree on KDE over GNOME or w/e. I personally use MATE, but KDE is much prettier. I'm considering switching at some point.
