Well, maybe they're not that odd, but I've not really been paying attention to what phone manufacturers are up to these days, so I need some help with what will work for me. I've previously had a huawei p10 lite (which I only sold after the news of them selling data to the Chinese government), Pixel 3a (i used that until it dying breath and then sold it for parts), and now I have a RealMe 8 5g, but I'm having charging issues with it. I might look at getting it fixed, but depending on the cost I might sell it on and buy something else.

    MUST HAVES:

    • Headphone jack. I'll die on this hill and I will get a phone with a headphone jack as long as they are available to me.
    • good battery. It's the main reason I went for the RealMe 8, the battery has just been fantastic so far.
    • No bloatware. I'm ruling out Samsung, and anything similar that is full of extra junk I can't get rid of. As close to pure android as possible is best.

    IDEAL

    • good for games. the heaviest duty game I play on my phone is TFT, and then I move around between various puzzle and idle games for when I'm travelling or on my lunch break, but I don't need it to be super powerful.
    • wireless charging. Nearly put this as a must have, but I could definitely live without it.
    • Not chinese made/owned. Also nearly put this as must have, but I don't want to limit myself massively.
    • under £250 I very rarely spend even that much on a phone, but I'm open to treating myself a bit.

I don't care about the camera really. I'm a photography hobbyist and so if I want to take good photos for memories I'll just take a camera with me. If it's good then thats a bonus but its near the bottom of my list of things I think about.

What would there be out there for me? I've always liked the look of Sony phones but they're typically a lot of money, how do they fit in with my requirements? I've also been looking into the Fairphone but it really is out of my budget, and i don't know how it runs.

Thanks in advance for any help :)

I've not played either of the earthbounds, and I don't feel like I'm missing anything. From what I've read online it does appear that it's not necessary to play them, and that they just generally have the same themes throughout.

The problem is that I don't doubt that even without the ad blockers that youtube and our other capitalist overlords that this would happen anyway.

I've recently picked myself up a handheld emulator (ambernic rg280v) and I've been fiddling around with that a fair bit. This weekend I've been playing advance wars 2 and I've actually been loving it. Never played it before and it's a great game to pick up for 10-20 minute bursts. The constant text box instructions for the first few missions have been very annoying but I think I'm near the end of that now.

I've only recently gotten into reading, and book that started it for me was Murakami's A Wild Sheep Chase.

Something about the way the main character approached life with cynicism but also intrigue really interested me. He seemed to numb to the world and was quite pathetic towards most things, but he was still up for a journey and adventure, almost because he felt there wasn't much point in anything.

At least, that was my takeaway.

If people generally ask me why I'm unable to attend things my response will change depending on context. Could range from "living my life" to "it's personal".

I did once tell a manager I wasn't able to pick up extra hours because "I could be attending cancer treatment. I'm not, but I could be".

Nothing to do with any other policies or history of the party and how much they've damaged and will continue to damage our country. Just that one thing. I'd be willing to bet there are many more examples like that than the loud extremists.

My biggest problem with the matrix 4 isn't necessarily that it was cynical, but rather how it decided to be cynical. It felt like a lot of the cynicism was written in an SNL writers room in one afternoon and didn't have a second draft written or anything. I get what they were going for, but parts felt more like a sketch than a blockbuster movie.

Let your maid of honour/best man know of family members/guests you don't want to talk to for too long so they can rescue you from the conversation. Did that at my wedding and my best man was an absolute hero. He'd just apologise to the family member and say "oh CosmicCrisp you're needed for [made up thing]" and I was able to sneak away.

Apologies if this isn't in line with the spirit of the group/site but I'm just looking for some advice really.

I'm 27m and just feel really stuck career wise. I didn't do very well in school and it took me a lot longer than everyone else to figure out myself. I have a degree in a redundant subject (very niche, no value in any career). Before COVID I was finally able to get my live music photography work off the ground but then that came crashing down. Other than that I mostly only have experience in retail and hospitality, and I've been a manager in both fields.

I'm looking for a work from home job for multiple reasons, mostly customer success/account management jobs and have had a few interviews too. I even got down to the final 2 for a promising one a few months ago. Every single job basically said that it was only down to my lack of experience compared to other candidates, but they did like me.

What is there I can actually do to aide this? I'm just worried that the older I get with only retail management work the harder it will be for me to start a real career path. The whole thing is getting me really down and I just don't know what to do.

    Thanks.
