Comment on Portugal’s bid to attract foreign money backfires as rental market goes ‘crazy’ in ~finance
Erolon Often in those schemes, at least in Italy, you’ll get the house for ”free” but you have to agree to extensive renovations and investments in the property so it still has a price in the end.Often in those schemes, at least in Italy, you’ll get the house for ”free” but you have to agree to extensive renovations and investments in the property so it still has a price in the end.

Erolon That definitely makes sense from a consumer’s point of view, although I wonder what the incentive is for credit card companies to offer reward schemes as opposed to other payment methods. That definitely makes sense from a consumer’s point of view, although I wonder what the incentive is for credit card companies to offer reward schemes as opposed to other payment methods.

Erolon I guess it is. I have a credit card but have literally never used it (except abroad). My bank offers the same level of consumer protection against fraud for both credit and debit cards anyway. Maybe if I wanted to buy something for more than I have in my account it would be useful but I don’t really run into that situation.

I’d actually never seen a check before going to America. Another crazy thing in North America was the preference for credit cards over debit. At least they’d accept card almost everywhere (same can’t be said for Germany).

First of all, voice recognition isn't that great at the moment (just look at Siri) and constantly having to have the mic on and analyse speech would take up quite a few computational resources and probably wouldn't even work well. It would also be illegal to listen on you all the time without your consent in a lot of jurisdictions and someone would've leaked it by now anyway.
Instead I think what you might be noticing is the frequency illusion (or Baader-Meinhof phenomenon). Once you talk or learn about something, you start noticing it everywhere. The things you say are typically based on your interests anyway which Google will know based on your search history etc. You'll just pay more attention to the targeted ads after having talked about a specific topic recently.

It's about mis- and disinformation but more focused on how statistics and science can be used to draw wrong or insufficient conclusions and how we are often overly inclined to believe quantitative data. I was initially reading a book on statistics when I came across this book.

Birth control should be available and affordable to everyone but I feel like having a physician’s judgement is important in preventing complication, understanding the possible risks and selecting an appropriate medication.
I can understand the motivation for otc birth control in the US though since seeing a physician is not affordable or available for many populations there who are in need of birth control.

Watch out though since there's are a lot of degree mills in Canada, which are typically private universities with very high tuition fees looking to attract foreign students with low quality education but visa opportunities.

I've also set both of the books on ethics on my reading list. I've heard a lot about Peter Singer but never actually read anything written by him. The polemic also sounds interesting and thought-provoking if nothing else.
Note that the children will not be eligble for US citizenship unless you have lived in the US (which is not the case here). And with a European passport it’s basically always possible to ”fly in” to the US. It makes the whole situation a bit more challenging.
