I've been playing Baldur's Gate III - Early Access after being gifted recently. (I was holding off until after release and all the bugs were quashed) - it is incredible how well made it is, and how much the combat is fun as heck like DOS2. Larian does know how to make great Isometric D&D style games.

And also I've been playing this fantastic game called Baba is You which is a complete mind melting puzzle game with charming art and a lovely soundtrack to really tickle your brain. It's great fun on the Steam Deck (which BG III is as well, but I'll wait until they have native controller support)

I am actually on the fence about moving to barefoot/minimalist shoes. I have flat feet and get pretty made shin splints if I run with the wrong shoes for the distance - any tips on transitioning?

I read books exclusively on e-readers, but this book is straight up impossible to read/ a very bad experience. Go to your local library and get a copy of this book. I was obsessed with it - which rarely happens these days as I've become an older reader. Just generally one of the weirdest things I've experienced.

I also generally like footnotes becoming whole extended parts of the narrative. Pratchett did this, but I think Infinite Jest took it to a whole different level and House of Leaves is basically the endgame of footnote/appendix/preface etc. all becoming part of a gestalt narrative.

    Also please make sure you

Long time music listener and thanks to the pandemic (a tiny silver lining in an otherwise gigantic, boiling cloud of lava) I got into making music using first an electric guitar and then the OP-Z.
As a penniless student in a country where music CDs cost a heck of a lot more than what I could afford, I naturally sailed the high seas and got into what.cd where my musical taste basically expanded like heck. I listen to practically everything - although I'm partial to post rock, textural music as well as vocal productions. I now try to buy stuff legally via Bandcamp - atone for all my student life sins.

I generally increase the number of sets. I'm not training actively - and every Friday I end up having alcohol which kind of resets the progress over the week to a certain extent. But if I'm restarting my entire training regiment I start with sets of 6 and a cooldown of 5mins, and over the weeks build up to set of 9-10 with cooldown of 15 mins. Basically the intervals increase power, while the cooldown kind of builds threshold/peak HR stamina. (I'm not a scientist - just my lived experience)

Everything about Disco Elysium is wonderful, hilarious and amazing. I haven't played something that stuck with me so much since Planescape: Torment. And I haven't laughed so much since Jazzpunk. I remember I took this (skill? Feat?) Called Encyclopedia, thinking it would prove to be very useful (I was after all a detective right?). The amount of useless and out of context info I got made me laugh so much.

And I will never forget the feeling when [REDACTED] happens towards the end. Everything tied together so well.

I actually walk because the interval sprint is basically max speed and I am out of wind by the end of it (which is why the last cooldown step is a killer - I go from full tilt speed to comfortable 6-6:10/km pace without a break which kills me for the first 3-4 mins: I am at peak HR zone the whole time). But a slow jog would actually be much better imo - keeps your heart rate in Zone 3-4 the whole time for the workout.

In addition to the tips from @Hooked I will also suggest that you do some intervals for increasing speed and stamina. I've found this set of 8 interval work for me as one of the training days (my 5k fastest is 4:55, average "fast run" is 5:20 - so please adjust down or up depending on your race predictor) :

    1. Warm up - 15m @6:00/km
    2. 8 sets of: Sprinting for 15s and recovery of 1:30m
    3. Cool down - 10m @6:10 /km

Mad gains once you start and then keep increasing the sets of increasing speeds over weeks. The cool down is the most important cuz you'll likely be at threshold or peak the whole time.

I totally agree - it's what I expect management to do - let the employees know that it's happening, and to have a conversation and also to let them know there's going to be anger. If they just acted as if it wasn't happening (which many many tech companies have done recently) it's way worse.

The fact that spez is killing something wonderful is deserving of anger. The internal memo - not so much.

Bandcamp is pretty much THE place to find random music. Their curated features are wonderfully niche and gives serious what.cd vibes (RIP what.cd :( )
Here are some of my picks:
Bloodywood - Rakshak - heavy metal + bhangra + rap. Heavily political as well - Gaddaar, the intro song, is incredibly good.
Djinn and Miskatonic - Forever in the Realm - Sludgy, drudgy, sickeningly good doom metal.
Natural Information Society - Since time is Gravity - Psychedelic, wild and weird. It's just off kilter and weird and all over the place. But somehow works well together.
Oberst and Buchner - Marble Arch - some out-there type electronica. It's good as background music and it's even better for just sitting down and having a listen. I've improv'd over these tracks at random - super fun.
LIFAFA - Superpower 2020 - wonderful experimental electronic/house music with vocals. It's in Hindi, and it's also very political but it's so good.

That being said recently the company has moved into a more Reddit-style management - i.e. they are looking at cost cutting random things (they do not give a filter holder, or a funnel with new Aeropresses any more) and generally adding random new products which we'll see how it goes.

(but then again neither are all forum posts for that matter) and it kind of gives me a way forward. I've asked it to go back and search its data for what reddit users have recommended for certain questions and it's actually a decent stop gap at the moment.

Never got into trackers but always liked the output from them - I don't think the workflow is for me, but the sounds are definitely for me - ever since I sailed the high seas and got some keygens when I was a kid.

Currently working on an ongoing EP made mostly DAWless (except to get some samples and final mixing sorted). I'm trying to make it dark and synthetic with a lot of old Tamil movie dialogues being added in for vocal effects. I've got 4 songs done and likely will have two more and then stage it all on Bandcamp.

I'm also working on a vocal collection of 3 songs or so - guitars, drums ,synths and my voice and also writing lyrics and singing it. It feels weird to be singing my own songs - somehow it makes me feel cringe but I'll still persist and get it out of the way. I'm heading for a short music retreat end of this month where I'm planning to finish composing the last song and the re-record all three properly to finalize.

Feeling optimistic - however amateurish and cringe it may all be!
