I’m in my early 30s and currently on my 3rd and 4th experience. Best friend at 19, dad at 28, another best friend last month, and my mom just got diagnosed terminal lung cancer. it never gets easier, but that’s kind of the point. It hurts because it meant something. It would be much more concerning if it didn’t hurt. Not everyone gets to experience the full range of emotions. For instance, my best friend at 19 died before his parents and anyone else he knew. Was he lucky or am I the lucky one? I try to remind myself that I am lucky enough to have had as much time as I did with each person and I am fortunate to feel strongly about losing them.

Here in Florida our school boards are being co-opted by moms for liberty aka right wing extremism that has no basis in education. They are using these same arguments (as the republicans in the article) to make stricter dress codes to protect innocent boys from being distracted by bikini wearing harlots in the classroom. It really sounds like a “she deserved it because of the way she was dressed” argument flipped around and dressed up

This is actually the best method for creating habits in my experience. I did some reading on the topic and essentially the method is to start with the most basic thing and expand after it’s in your routine.
    Example:
Want to start flossing? Floss one tooth every day. Only do more if you feel like it but always do one. Eventually you just start saying screw it I already have the floss out might as well do them all.

I’m currently trying to do this for stretching and exercising too

Email sig with job title is nice. I hate when I get an email from someone with no signature. I’m in tech and engineering and I need to know how detailed of a response to give you and that can usually be determined based on whether you are sales, a fellow engineer, an exec, or an office admin

It is quick and oddly soothing? Idk it helped create the habit of flossing daily and made my gums strong enough to handle the real thing (it has variable pressure that you can slowly increase over time). It’s now always on max setting and feels like a light gum massage and i never took it out of my routine

They did remove their stated platform so they could freely oppose anything brought forward by the opposition. Their goal may not be “grievance and malice” but it does appear to be “power and control” above all else and their tactic is often to demonize minority groups as public threats to expand power in the name of safety and protection

Commute is 30mins for 20 people, but there’s 50 people so commute is now 45mins. Increase lanes and commute is now 30mins for up to 70 people. You haven’t increased the rate, you successfully allowed more people to use the road correctly. Raising the rate would be increasing the speed limit of the roads so people could get there faster in 20mins, but that won’t help if your exceeding capacity of the road and its stop&go traffic. Now the problem here is that they keep exceeding capacity of the road even when they keep expanding the road. The population is growing faster than the infrastructure, so the solution is either to use infrastructure differently or expand infrastructure faster. Their argument is “if you build it they will come, so building it doesn’t work” and that’s incorrect.

The article: “widening roads was so successful that more people decided to use them, making them congested again. Therefore we deem it unsuccessful because traffic sucks”

The article misses the point of widening roads. You don’t increase the diameter of a water pipe to speed up the flow, you increase diameter to allow more water through. In this, the roads are successfully allowing more traffic through at the same rate as they used to work with less traffic. That is a success even though the author seems to think increasing the rate was the goal

Ball parking here, but a single individual with no 401k contributions or other tax complexities would need to make roughly 80k before their tax burden is 10k/yr
