For political change to work, there'd have to be a large percentage of the population that actually cares about data privacy. And, I don't know about you, but I don't see a large push for it outside a very vocal minority of internet users. I can't think of anyone I know personally that cares what companies are collecting about them. Granted, I live in rural Ohio, so my circle of acquaintances aren't exactly a representative sample, but I can't imagine it's very different in most other places. At least not to a degree that would matter to force any kind of political solution to this.

But, if I'm being perfectly honest, I'm just lazy. I could push for political change, but not doing so is easier. And even if I did, the matter of data being stolen is still an issue that's not going to be solved any time soon. My health insurance provider just let me know a few days ago that pretty much everything they know about me was probably taken. What Philip's is going to do with my data is a small drop in the bucket at this point.

When I was younger, I cared a lot more. But nothing got that much better. And, when it did, some new technology or way of collecting data came along to be that much more invasive. At this point, I'm just apathetic about the whole thing. Combine that with laziness and it's pretty easy to decide not caring will lead to a happier, less stressful life.

Honestly, so long as the offline bit continues to work for when my internet goes out, I don't particularly care about the data thing. I gave up on caring what company has my data, what profile they're building with it, or who they sell it to a long time ago. It takes far too much time, effort, and compromises to deal with keeping my personal information safe. Even assuming I do everything perfect, many places that have to keep private information about me are one data breech away from giving up tons of my personal info and I had no control over it.

If it's just for eBooks, then I always recommend the Kobo line that you're already using. I use the Libra 2, but the screen is only 7in. If you want bigger than that, then the Sage has an 8in screen, but it's more expensive because of the whole stylus thing.

The only other real major player, that's not Kindle, is probably Onyx. I had a Onyx Boox Poke 2, and I wasn't a fan of their software. The plus of it being full Android was nice, you could use whatever reader app you wanted, but the software was clunky at best. Other than that, I question the amount of polish and support the other brands offer. You can find a lot about various eReaders from My Deep Guide on YouTube if you want to get a feel for what's out there.

While I still hold out hopes for that Fire Emblem 4 remake, what I'd really like to see, but doubt we will, is Fire Emblem Warriors: Engage. I think it's one of the few Fire Emblem games that basically fits right into the Fire Emblem Warriors series without a whole lot of tweaking. You've got Engage mode for Awakenings, rings for leveling, bonds and supports, and the Tempest Trials for a grinding mode. The only thing that doesn't really transfer well is the story, but they went alternate timeline with Three Hopes, so I suppose that could do that again. Or just redo the current story and make it less bad.

Granted, I'm probably one of the few people that love Dynasty Warrior games and the FE Warriors line in particular, but I don't care about much else Nintendo puts out. I basically only bought the Switch for Fire Emblem games to begin with.

I finally found time to dive into Tales from the Red Dragon Inn and I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I like it. I'm a pretty huge dungeon co-op guy and this is very much on the lighter end of the spectrum. It is pretty basic, but it's got a good pace and I'm enjoying how it feels to play thus far. If nothing else, the giant folding paper maps that I can just slap down, pull out a character since everything levels together, and go really makes it something I can get to the table much faster. So far, my brother and I have made it through the first four scenarios and we're really enjoying some of the decisions to be made even in the earlier stuff. It's nothing hard, but it's certainly fun.

I also tried it solo and found that it works quite well. You can play it with two characters, like most of these style of games, but it also has the ability to take a little robot or murder bunny with you and just use a single character. I really liked it quite a bit more than just running a team myself like usual.

Personally, I like devices that do one thing and do it well. The biggest thing for me, other than what I've mentioned, is the 8" screen. There's no way I'd ever want a phone that big, but I definitely want a bigger one for games. I could just get a Steam Deck, it'd do everything I want too. But, it's more expensive and my primary game library's on PlayStation anyway.

However, if I'm being honest, it's also just going to be a collector thing. I own every PlayStation console/handheld and it'll bug me forever not to have this for the complete collection.

Probably me. I don't buy new phones that often and my current one has a pretty small screen. When I do get a new one, it'll be whatever is under $350 I find off Amazon in another year or two. I've tried running PS Remote Play on my current phone, but it's just not a good experience. I also hate every third party controller addon for a phone that I've tried. Right now I'm using an 8BitDo clip thing for my XBox One controller, but it's the best of the bad options I've had the displeasure of using.

Even ignoring all that, this will let me use my TV and do random grinding stuff in FFXIV at the same time on my couch in a better format. That's worth $200 for me.

I've said as much else where, but as much as I want to believe victims in these circumstances, I still need some kind of actual proof or corroboration from another party involved with the same matter or a similar one before I can really get invested. I've seen these internet guilt by X/Twitter post without any further evidence and it just doesn't sit right with me. A chat log, an email, someone else who worked there with a similar experience, anything that backs up her claims and I'm on board. But, without that, I just can't get behind it.

Having said that, what I would like to see is LMG allow the community or a third party everyone could trust to choose an outside firm to independently look into all this. I think most people aren't going to believe anything LMG say on this matter, regardless of what that is, and it'll just be a thing that exists unless we get some actual investigating done.

I'm not sure how it's sad when everything is pretty much on par with what you got in Shadowbringers. Actually, considering 5.45 only added 23 spells, you're an entire spell ahead this time around. Most of the Blue Mage stuff is achievement/for fun anyway. I don't think it particularly needs better rewards for as niche as it is. I'm just glad they keep updating it since I'm pretty sure they could never touch it again and the community at large wouldn't really care. I doubt most would even notice.

I believe the two most positive points to downvote systems is an easier time suppressing bad content and auto moderation, basically, of things that fall below a default threshold. Sadly, I also think those two things are also the biggest downsides to it as well. Suppression of ideas that are unpopular or counter to whomever is leading the charge to promote/demote a particular topic, idea, or discussion.

I get the need for it on a site like Reddit, but we've pretty much saw how it plays out when it happens at scale: tons of people segregated into their own echo chambers where only ideas people like, no matter how wrong, are pushed up and dissenting ideas are quashed.

Of course, I suppose Twitter is the other side. Everyone is, technically (before Blue, anyway), equal in voice and it's up to everyone else to simply magnify that view. Not that I think Twitter is great for discussion, but it does highlight the downsides of no ability to downvote and its ability help squash extremely dumb/harmful/etc views to counteract those pushing it.

It was GameFAQs forums for me. I got regular internet access not long after it was just hitting it's initial popularity in the late 90s. As a teen with a gaming passion in a rural school where that wasn't really a thing, it was great to be able to discuss games with other people. I still prefer that old forum way of posting to this day. Although, admittedly, following along with multiple topics becomes a bit of a headache in forums. My email would get spammed with update notifications.

Ultimately, like most places on the internet, the more popular it got the more insulated and toxic the users got, so I moved on not long after I graduated high school. Digg became a thing not long after that. I liked it in the beginning when it was smaller and felt more familiar, but I still enjoyed it even after it got popular. I just didn't participate in it as much. Then that whole kerfuffle over whatever people were outraged about at the time moved most people to Reddit. I still liked that Digg felt like one community when compared to Reddit which is basically a collection of mini communities.

Other than that I used a handful of generic forums here and there through the years,. Even ran my own for a time. I think it was the PSO Hackers Guild or something cringe like that. Basically just a bunch of us that tinkered with Xploder cheats for Phantasy Star Online.

Out of curiosity, do you know if Fallout 76 ever released truly private servers you can spin up? I'm not interested in playing with the world at large, just some friends. I believe when I originally looked into it, this wasn't possible. Although, to be fair, it was a bit hard to find any information on the game that didn't instantly fall into how bad it was around launch.
