An Australian woman did a great comparison of sunscreens using her own skin and a series of grids about a year ago. Worth watching, and relevant to these ingredients.

This year the local library has a giant display of LGBTQ books front-and-center by the entrance. Impossible to ignore. And while I live in California, I'm in the smallest, (relatively) reddest city in the county, so this is great to see. Last year was much more muted. The local hospital is flying a huge pride flag as well, which is the first time I can remember happening.

There's still plenty of assholes around, but I feel like the zeitgeist has finally decided it's time to fight back for real, and I'm here for it.

While I do use Claude Code and Codex (successfully) at work, the biggest change for me is that I'm having more fun programming with modern LLM-assisted tooling than I've had in years. There are so many little projects I've wanted to do over the years, but couldn't dedicate the time to do the traditional way, that are finally in reach! It's a blast, and genuinely makes me happy. I feel like I'm getting to exercise my computer creativity again in a way that I haven't been able to since the old Commodore days, when I could fit the entire machine in my head.

Verbal abuse, threats of violence, and unhinged hostility are why I stopped contributing to Open Source twenty years ago. I love playing with computers, but if there is a single community that does a better job of rules-lawyering badgering smug misanthropy, I've yet to find it. Individually I know several other fellow techies who are delights to work with, but good god is the online world a toxic cesspool. And, like much of the world, it's gotten quite a bit angrier over the past few years. Glad to see Tridge isn't too put out, but what a pain.

I'm glad to hear you're looking into it. I eventually found the therapist that works for me via a referral from a therapist who didn't click. A good therapist completely understands that this is how things are, and will often know other people that they think might be better fits for you. So even if your ADHD person isn't the right fit for talk therapy, ask her if she knows anyone that she thinks might be a better match, you might get lucky!

Which is a painful place to be. When I was in a similar spot, I wound up getting divorced. The silver lining is that years later, we're still fantastic friends. It turns out when we aren't living together and don't have the pressures of romantic entanglement, we genuinely get along. We just weren't good as a couple. I say this simply to say that it may be best if you guys split, but that doesn't imply hate or indifference, just an acknowledgement of what works and what doesn't. And that's ok.

I am blessed to have long-term, close friends with whom I can (and do!) discuss anything I want or need to. This helps tremendously. My therapist is still (IMO) a necessary part of my life, because she is not part of my daily social circle, yet is still (professionally) interested in my life. I have learned over the years that this kind of feedback is incredibly useful for adjusting one's rudder in life, and it really can't be performed by anyone you socialize with.

Worth noting that it took me a long time to find the right therapist, too. But when you finally find someone who clicks, they're worth their weight in gold in terms of insight.

I've been mocked by (ex for a reason) partners. Literally have experienced pointing and laughing, and it feels like you'd expect. Thankfully, I have also had truly wonderful partners to counterbalance the awfulness, but man, it's rough out there, and it sounds like it's even worse nowadays than it was when I was young.

Mostly it breaks my heart seeing people being so awful to one another.

What's maddening about all of this is that there is no need to use evaporative cooling, it's just the cheapest. And while it's expensive to retrofit an existing center, there are modern designs that are functionally cost-neutral, so this waste in fragile ecosystems is even more abhorrent in its lack of care.

That is hilarious. I had noticed a significant uptick in goblins, fairies, gremlins, and daemons, I just figured it was just getting to know me better, as I love mythological creatures, and working in tech, they are a common reference. I still get regular mentions of them today, so apparently my goblin locus is too powerful to be disabled by a simple system prompt. :D

Which is a good problem to have, really. It's low value enough infrastructure that it is likely to be left alone.

One bonus use of crunchy: if you have dogs and you need to give them a pill, it's much easier to hide the texture of a crushed up pill in something that already has a crunchy texture than in smooth peanut butter.

I know you were just replying in fun for the misspelling, but interesting fact about trucking in the United States, Punjabi, and particularly Sikh, represent a very large proportion of the US trucking fleet. Something like 20% nationwide, going to 40% on the West Coast. A knock-on effect of this is that you will see Indian restaurants and food across the interstates everywhere.
