I think you're underselling how big a deal it is. Yes, it's a rights transfer, but it also means that you don't have to deal with the large losses of water due to evaporation and absorption before they even get to San Diego. That's a lot of water! And if the funding from the other states can shore up San Diego's desal infrastructure, that's fantastic. I remember how it was in the '90s, and it makes me genuinely happy to see infrastructure moving forward.

Maiasaura! We lived in Montana about the time they were discovered, and got to see Jack Horner himself talk about the good mother lizard. Little kidlet me was super excited about it, and my Mom, who also loved dinosaurs, thought it was great that proof of maternal behavior was being recognized. It's now the state dinosaur, too.

Along the same lines, we have a few ghost redwoods here in California. They are albinos that get their energy from the roots of normal green trees. Really cool the first time you see one.

I have a Bambu lab x1c, and a variety of AliExpress plates. I use liquid glue stick on almost everything, but very little. My method is to wipe on a few streaks, spray with distilled water, then wipe down with a microfiber cloth. It dries very quickly into a very thin layer. I use it not for adhesion per se, but as a release agent. It keeps the print surfaces from degrading. I print a wide variety of materials, but mostly PLA, PETG, and ASA.

I used to snorkel a lot in San Diego around La Jolla. There are a lot of smaller sharks that hang out on the sea floor that are fun to watch, from nurse to leopard, and my favorite, the catshark, as its eggs are mermaid's purses, and if you get lucky, you can find one where you can see the little embryo swimming around inside! Very cool.

Exactly. Caring may not be sufficient on its own, but it's absolutely necessary to potentially even be good in the first place.

FWIW, I'm of the same mind on this. Colbert genuinely, deeply cares about the legendarium. That alone makes me interested to see what he comes up with.

One thing I'd like clarification on, if anyone else here knows. From my understanding, it is the motion of the tides, specifically the tides as they are accelerated around the spinning Earth, that act like a pulling tether and that is the mechanism of transfer of momentum to the Moon. Does this mean that depending on how much water has been on the surface of the Earth, the levels of the ocean via ice ages, etc change the rate of the momentum transfer? Before the Earth cooled enough to have water condensed in the first place, was there negligible transfer?

In the late 90's, for the first three years out of college, not a single damn thing I worked on ever shipped. Either the company went out of business, pivoted in a way that made my work irrelevant, or the C-suite just threw darts one day at the cancel-o-matic board and my project's number came up.

Just as maddening to me as this was, was the realization that 90% of the people I worked with DGAF about any of this.

In my case, I quit software and became an IT consultant. It's still maddening most days, but at least I get to talk to interesting people, and hopping between industries is fun, you never know what you're going to learn!
