Baker wasn't Stefanski's fault. The GM and ownership forced Deshaun onto the roster and sicked the media machine on Baker. All Stefanski did was keep his head down and wait for his inevitable firing. He's a good coach and a good person. He'll get another chance on another team, and deservedly so.

Yeah they used up that ticket with Days of Future Past. Damn, that trailer hit so hard back then though. It was arguably better than the movie.

I'm pretty far removed from Disney/Marvel these days, but god damn if I don't love the X-men. That shot of Cyclops at the end just really revs my nerd engine. I'm sure the movie will be full of scenes like that, which, in a vacuum, I would really love.

The problem is, all those cool moments will be wrapped up with audience pandering, flattened themes, and a just kind of... gentrified story. And all of that leaves a bad taste in my mouth that taints the moments I want to love.

I don't want to be a hater. I don't like being a hater. I want to be excited to see my favorite characters on the silver screen. But ultimately, I think this teaser satisfies what I want far more than the actual film ever will. At least when I watch this, my mind can fill in the gaps for what I believe the Avengers and the X-men actually are, not what Disney wants me to believe them to be.

Or maybe I'm just a pompous comic book nerd that can't enjoy things that have been retro-fitted to a wider audience. I can accept that too. But that doesn't remove the melancholy. I wish I could watch these movies without constantly asking myself whether I'm enjoying them or not. I just can't lose myself in them anymore.

Will do, thank you. Though I've never come across a project I couldn't crack my knuckles and brute my way through 🙂 I think it's cool that you wrote it to begin with.

This is awesome, thanks! I usually start exploring new topics because they relate to something I'm currently doing or fascinated by. I'll slowly branch out from a core idea until I feel like I've lost the plot and then I go back and start over. Wikipedia has been an amazing resource for this, but WOW you can get overloaded fast.

You've already given me a great list of names to look into, but if you have any books/authors that you've found yourself returning to for a re-read, I'd love to know.

Thanks again for the great reply!

It's just tough finding the balance between knowing when to teach him things and just letting go of expectations and allowing him to be a kid. I know he's only 1yr, but these are the anxieties I've brought with me into parenthood lol.

Any tips or resources for this? My kid just turned 1 so we're not doing much more than singing the ABCs right now, but I do want to be as proactive as I can.

The new God of War games have incredible stories and are dripping with lore that I couldn't get enough of. You don't need to know anything about the previous games except that Kratos is a Spartan that became a god and murdered the entire Greek Pantheon using the super bad-ass Blades of Chaos. If you are interested in mythology you would enjoy these games.

Yes, I do complete grayscale and add a dark blue color filter on top of that to give it a "sci-fi datapad-esque" feel. I wish I had more control over the contrast, because the color overlay basically makes the OLED pointless, but still, I agree with you. You quickly forget about it and it makes browsing certain apps a lot less obnoxious and overstimulating.

Edit: I do wish I could do half saturation, but on Samsung it seems like its all or nothing unless I choose a specific tint for color blindness (ie. green-red, etc.).

A few months ago, I watched this George Carlin interview by a young, smokin' hot Jon Stewart. At one point, Carlin mentions that his profession is nothing more than rhetoric (then he does a fun little bit).

I was familiar with the idea of rhetoric, but for whatever reason, Carlin's words really intrigued me. So I start researching a bit, and Wikipedia very quickly sends me down the Aristotle rabbit-hole. Before I knew it, I read all of Aristotle's books on Rhetoric and Poetics, but I didn't stop there.

His way of thinking really clicked with me, and I became obsessed with applying his ethical and metaphysical frameworks to different aspects of my life. I was particularly fascinated by his ideas around causality, potentiality, and actuality.

Something about the idea of deriving meaning from the world using purely deductive reasoning was so satisfying to me. I now have pages and pages of my own notes on Aristotle's ideas, and it has been very fun trying to reconcile his "wrong" theories with modern theories on physics, biology, and mathematics. (Disclaimer: I'm not an expert on any of those things, I'm just recreationally fascinated by them, so I don't claim to be qualified to perform these mental exercises. Still, they are fun nonetheless).

Over the course of a few months, Aristotle easily became one of my all time heroes. I have so many questions I wish I could ask him, and I lament that we are missing so many of his works (I believe the list numbers in the hundreds, mostly lecture notes, etc., but still.

He opened up my mind in a way I did not know possible, and completely changed my approach to learning and how I view the world. I am so grateful to a single man that lived and died thousands of years before I would ever exist. And I guess I'm pretty grateful for George Carlin too, for sending me down that rabbit hole to begin with.
