Currently watching Kage Kara Mamoru; it has an old charm to it, and lacks many of the done-to-death tropes. I'm also rewatching Ouran and Intial D (first stage).

Indeed, while I am wary of the mindless 'progressiveness' of the west(being blindly open minded), climate change is one of the things that can get me to immediately support the left. We need to protect the world, people. First step, remove the dependency on oil, and dismantle toxic industries in China, USA, and other places.

I'm not even going to touch the topic of the alt-right and the far left, both are very reactionary.
I think a touch of paranoia about Islam is justified, although if that paranoia overshadows all the other aspects, then yes, it does become Islamophobia. Look, I'm not a heartless monster, I do think humanity should come first. All I'm saying is that we can't bury our heads in the sand and pretend that Islam is just like any other religion. You want to remove Islamophobia? Well, first you have to oust all the fear-mongering politicians right-wing politicians, and also all the virtue signaling left-wing politicians, and start with rational policies.

I also think it's not accurate to accuse the Western countries of Islamophobia. Germany, France, and Sweden have been taking immigrants(a lot of them muslim) by the boatload.

Of course, you are correct in that a lot of anti-refugee rhetoric is politically motivated. Certainly, we should look past that, and I wouldn't want to be judged based only only by my religion(or lack thereof). I'm just saying that you're pulling an ostrich.

You and I both know I am not talking about the middle-class muslim family next door. They have their own cultures, as we have ours, and there is nothing wrong with that. What I suggested that we be wary of is the way Islam is being normalized. Why do people feel the need to touch the topic of Islam with a ten-foot pole? Is it some form of groupthink, or a way to virtue-signal?

Anyway, I was just replying to OP's post about islamophobia in the West. Just because these countries are (justly) wary of Islam doesn't mean they are discriminating against all muslims. OP's tone just rubbed me the wrong way. And yes, you are right. I should have used the specific term Wahhabism.

Of course you shouldn't refuse help to the weak and the weary, whenever you can. My post was just in response to your accusation of Islamophobia towards USA, Europe, and such, whereas it has been my experience online( in most communities ) that Islam is a religion vicariously defended, often by those who wish to show off their 'moral virtue'. Realize that I am not accusing you of anything like that, just pointing out that your complaints are not that apt. So no, I don't think the complaint of Islamophobia is justified.

I agree that a male-to-female retcon is definitely more accepted. I was just pointing out that simply changing the protagonist's gender(and disregarding the consequent smaller changes) is not enough to justify making a reboot. For example, I would rather see Harry Potter: Auror Extraordinaire than Jane Potter and the Philosopher's stone.

Seriously though, I feel like it is becoming a heavily left-leaning echo-chamber(forgive the cliche). Certain kinds of sentiments are more likely to be approved of, and there is a particular judgemental quality in the air. It's been only a few months since I joined, but the site has already taken a definitive tone.

For the time being, I still like tildes for its lack of bloat/spam.

    Not American btw.

For me it's just meh. I think I watched it for a little beyond the tournament arc or whatever that was. Story gripped me in at first, but lost me at how it presented itself. Deku mumbles his ideas to himself. They need to state the same cliches over and over again. It has good art and animation, but I found the presentation to be childish.
I guess it's just riding the hype train of the superhero explosion of these days.

Of course Bond should be male. To make him female would be like rebooting Kill Bill with a male protagonist. Completely unnecessary, and insignificant on its own.

Discriminating against muslims on the basis of their religion is, of course, inhumane. But there is something to be said for being wary of Islam.

By Nepali standards, I (thankfully) belong to a middle class family, so I did have Iregular nternet access from a very young age(10). If not for the Internet, I would be a completely different person today.

What I meanty by 'poor' is that Nepal has one of the lowest GDPs worldwide and a huge amount living below the poverty line. I live in the capital city, yet you can see garbage lying by the river side, people spitting and littering on streets, and 90% of traffic lights are out of order. Our infrastructure would have people rioting in any first-world nation (roads are all cracked, drinking water is hard to come by, you can't buy anything online using paypal or such, and so on).

    It's basically your poorer-than-average third-world nation.

Well, a site that allows no whimsy at all should be interesting in itself. To be fair though, tilde is meant to be different from other sites, and if we can get a site full of only quality content at the expense of in-community jokes, that would be a worthwhile compromise.

These are pretty significant communities everywhere(reddit, 4chan, and so on).

Edit: On closer inspection, we already have a comp subreddit, but I still think a separate ~programming would be appropriate, with different tags for different languages(e.g. haskell, C, ruby, python, etc.).

If you(Demios) feel that anime/manga groups do not provide quality discussion and therefore do not create them, I would have to disagree with you, but it would be entirely acceptable. There isn't a lack of forums for anime/manga. Though I do wonder how many niche interesets will ~ support?
