It's amazing how Twitter, a place where people exchange funny pictures and short posts, has become a thing that can influence the global economy.

Which is why we should start considering the nature of Twitter's ownership. That influence rests in the hands of Jack Dorsey and some shareholders. Twitter needs a new ownership model that reflects this nature. Be it nationalization, internationalization, non-profit, or something else. All of those have their own problems, but are probably better than private ownership.

Mastodon style federation would be a good way to take it out of the hands of a single entity, but Twitter would have to be seized from private ownership before that happens.

pansexuality is bisexuality for people with a persecution complex

What? Who is out there saying they are being persecuted in a way that they wouldn't be if they were just bi?

The difference between pan and bi isn't exactly set in stone, but the one I've seen most is whether or not gender has any role in your attraction: pan - gender doesn't matter at all, bi - attracted to all genders, but gender still plays a role.

Other possible distinctions are about whether you are attracted to nb/genderqueer, or even if you are attracted to trans people. But both of those (distinctions for pan vs bi) are generally rejected by bi people.

That's why I said the abbr tag should be supported, obviously the link solution is a little hacky and unintuitive for readers. On the other hand the abbr tag has default styling that tells you there is hover text (dotted underline).

As for mobile, it's kind of annoying that it doesn't support the abbr tag (or I guess title text in general). This article proposes a bit of a hacky solution (adding the title text in parentheses as ::after content).

*Edit: it scrolls to the top of the page, but you can get the id of your comment after posting it and change the # to that, so #comment-3197 for this comment

@Deimos, it would be nice to have some support for the abbr tag, either by converting that specific formatting (an empty link) to it or by adding it to the supported "HTML-exclusive formatting" tags.

Overall this seems mainly focused on furries, which means it has a rather limited target audience, and is likely to turn off anyone not in that audience.

Wikipedia has a list of states currently considering it. Notably it's passed the New Mexico House, and is currently in committee in the Democrat controlled Senate. With a Democratic Governor there's a pretty good chance it gets passed there as well.

Other Democrat trifecta states it's being considered in are Maine, Nevada, and Oregon. If all 5 states pass it, it will be at 203 electoral votes, but it will probably stall there as there are no more Democrat trifectas to pass it.

So why aren't we considering Brazil's election illegitimate? The right-wing government jailed a well known opponent (Lula) which led to a fascist getting elected.

That's arguably a bigger problem internationally because more people are directly affected, plus the Amazon rainforest is in danger as a result of the election.

...if you believe the first-world Western media who are in support of regime change.

Venezuelan state media teleSUR claims it was right-wing opposition who burned their own trucks as a false flag.

Both sides have their own interests and reasons for lying, and one side is lying, but we really don't have any way of knowing which it is.

Either way, this is just another event ramping up to a conflict that will lead to the deaths of thousands of innocent Venezuelans, and quite possibly end with an even worse, right-wing government in charge. At best, another classic Latin American coup; at worst, Trump's Iraq.
