from my own experience in machine learning, adversarial attacks on neural networks tend to be far easier than creating the initial neural network in the first place. For instance, the VGG and resnet image recognition networks can be fooled by a single pixel attack, and yet hardening these architectures against adversarial attacks comes with a significant penalty to the accuracy of the network. This also seems to apply with discriminatory networks; in image GANs, it's always the discriminator that has to be weakened in order for the generator to succeed. Unless this changes, i'd say that the networks aiming to ban NLP bots have a distinct advantage in the battle between generative bots and discriminatory bots.

it effectively censors extensions such as ad nauseum, since this extensions is already banned from the store for dubious reasons. I can understand it being used to protect against malicious extensions , but it can also be used to prevent people installing extensions that serve a purpose that runs counter to google's interests by making the installation an arduous task.

Old guard here, started transitioning back in late 2008. I mostly stay away from the activism side of things now, too much burnout and too much anxiety from shit that's happened in my life.

I've had a lot of shit happen that i prefer not to think about - beaten up and left with a concussion 3 months in because a guy was attracted to me, then found out i was trans ( pro tip for anyone starting transition... work on your voice. Trust me on this.)

Later on was sexually assaulted, and too damn close to a situation where i might be murdered because the fuckwit found out i was trans. These days i mostly just stay in my house, and hang out with my girlfriend. It's not the most action packed way to live life, but at least it feels safe here.

I'm 6'5" with lanky arms, and I'm pretty sure about the draw length - The guy running the introductory course has been doing so for 10 years, and he used an arrow marked with inch increments to check. The arrow was marked up to 32 inches, and i was able to draw it well beyond that.

Thanks for the tips about arrows, i didn't realize you could get them cut to a custom length. When i first looked into buying gear, the websites i skimmed didn't mention that as a possibility.

To be fair, i thought my knowledge of aussie spiders counted as an answer of sorts. That being said, put me down for an aussie.

Sadly I don't have a yard, I live in an apartment complex which rules out any home setup. Best option i have is an archery range that's a half-hour hike up a mountain. It's very peaceful up there, but it's still a fair bit of bushwalking involved.

Part of my problem however is that i'm both very tall, and have a very long armspan. When i was doing the training course, none of the arrows were sized correctly for me, and when trying to find good starting gear i couldn't find too much for a 34" draw. If you have any pointers in terms of where to look though, i'd love to get some advice - i truly enjoyed the course, especially using the longbow, and i want to make a serious attempt at getting into it if i can.

I'd say a better example would be the auto summary bot - it serves a useful purpose for people who want to skim the key points from an article, but don't have the time to read the entire thing. It can occasionally be noisy, however more often than not it serves a useful purpose.

I do like the idea of initially restricting bots to a test environment, this allows for plenty of experimentation by the developer without causing noise across the rest of the site.

I'd love to get into archery. I did a small training course about a year and a half back, and found it very relaxing; there's this moment just before you let an arrow fly where there's nothing but you, the target, and a sense of tranquility as you wait for that perfect moment to shoot.

Sadly the initial investment in terms of equipment is pretty expensive, and the closest archery range isn't nearly close enough for my lazy arse. I keep telling myself that one day i'll start getting organized to do it, but realistically i know i won't.

This comes with it's own problems however. If you want to use your code contributions as part of a resume or portfolio when applying for a job - either you keep your contributions truly anonymized and lose the ability to use your contributions to demonstrate talent, or you sacrifice anonymity in order to claim the contribution. Additionally, part of the reason meritocracy works at all is because it helps contributors feel appreciated... and if no one knows the contribution is yours, you feel removed from any appreciation your contribution earned.

As an ideal being able to fully hide the identity is great, but like any great theory the difficulty comes from the how you practically implement it.
