I also feel odd about several of these picks. Oldboy to some extent and especially The Empty Man for basically being nothing like the comic? Just lightly inspired?
I can’t say I’ve read all of these, or even seen all of them, but this feels like it should’ve been framed as “here’s some interesting points “ not hiding in a list where it feels like it stretches to argue for points it’s not really sincere about?
Yeah I even had to click on a few timestamps because he didn't actually say the name of the movie at the beginning of the section for all of them. I'm not interested in watching him but I was glad...

I'm not interested in watching him but I was glad my weird vibes seemed mostly cancelled out. Going into a digression about Pepe as a hate symbol was a bit of a red flag and I lacked the context of the video.
I have zero idea what his criteria are since I didn't watch it. But I don't agree that the two Moore adaptations are particularly good. Especially Watchmen

In contrast, I felt like the HBO Watchmen series, with a totally different story, got closer to the psychological and intellectual vibe of the original.
Did he actually get involved in that one? Tbh I think I liked that one more than the comic but that's because I find the comic a bit meh. I wouldn't say LoEG is a good movie. V for Vendetta I'd...

I wouldn't say LoEG is a good movie. V for Vendetta I'd say is a great movie but not a great adaptation. I'm a sucker for dystopian spec fic though.
I'll give him credit for consistency on hating what Hollywood does to his work but he does still cash that check I assume.

When I think of the Watchmen movie my mind immediately goes to the Vietnam scenes that's in slow-mo. It's like they invented those insipid photoshop animations where people layer parts of a photograph and morph them to make it look like they're moving about a decade early, entirely because they used the comic as a storyboard and forgot they were making a movie. I haven't seen it in forever and this is a pretty biased opinion around a knee-jerk feeling behind hating Zach Snyder's direction, but... Yeah. It just feels so sterile. Also with the ending...
(the ending)
This might be pure preference, but I *really* prefer the comic's alien ending. It's such a visually striking scene that provides a more horrifyingly salient problem for everyone to rally around, and even if it's a little less "realistic" than the literal political fallout the visceral response felt more understandable. Again, the movie feels like just a sterile, safe plot choice to me. Eh.
Expected like 12 Avengers movies, leaving with some actually interesting takes. Maybe hot takes, but at least interesting. I will check out some of the stuff. If anyone else is curious about more...

If anyone else is curious about more artsy animation movies, check out It's Such a Beautiful Day, still maybe my favorite animated movie next to Princess Mononoke.
Huh, another one hour and half video, without description, and without list of movies. I have zero idea about the author of the video, does this video worth to watch?

For the sake of context, this is an essay on how the superhero genre is intertwined with the comic book medium, and how the attention economy gives superheroes all the attention in the world at the detriment of every other adaptation from the medium. It's disguised as a top 20 list to better fit the YouTube format.

I skipped around to the movies I had seen or was interested in, and it was so-so. Something about some of his delivery was a little off-putting. There were segments where he got a little emotional and it for some reason felt insincere to me? I can't quite put it into words. It didn't exactly feel genuine. But maybe I'm just too much of cynic. Some of the history of the movies and the comics that inspired them was pretty interesting.

Personally I can't agree with this list at all. No mention of scott pilgrim vs world, edge of tomorrow, v for vendetta, watchmen...
It's not really a "best of" list, more like 20 films he thinks deserves more attention.
I have zero idea what his criteria are since I didn't watch it. But I don't agree that the two Moore adaptations are particularly good. Especially Watchmen
I really, really disliked the Watchmen movie. I felt like it captured a lot of the visual style, but really missed on complexity and depth.
In contrast, I felt like the HBO Watchmen series, with a totally different story, got closer to the psychological and intellectual vibe of the original.
I'd agree, in general, though I think Moore protests too much about his adaptations every single time.
Did he actually get involved in that one? Tbh I think I liked that one more than the comic but that's because I find the comic a bit meh.

Oh he wrote League though, the book I mean! I'm pretty sure he also hates that adaptationWait, I follow you now. Yeah idk no one gets art but him.
Edited as I had a lightbulb turn on

It was worth scrolling through the transcript.

Idk but I posted the list
Tnx!

For the sake of context, this is an essay on how the superhero genre is intertwined with the comic book medium, and how the attention economy gives superheroes all the attention in the world at the detriment of every other adaptation from the medium. I'd have been more interested in the essay than the list which is a shame I suppose. I've watched my share of Sarah Z or Jenny Nicholson.
