    Copying over a few relevant things from the old topic:

    Their servers are currently being a bit overwhelmed, so the stats page is pretty broken right now (edit: stats page appears to finally be fixed), as are their Work Unit assignment servers. So if you get stuck on "Downloading" in your Work Queue, just idle and un-idle the associated Folding Slot a few times until it connects and gets a new Work Unit.

    Also worth mentioning is something @SleepyGary recently pointed out:

    For anyone having problems getting the control/viewer working on Ubuntu 16+ you need a couple extra packages since it doesn't ship with Python v2 anymore

    wget http://launchpadlibrarian.net/109052632/python-support_1.0.15_all.deb
    sudo dpkg -i python-support_1.0.15_all.deb
    sudo apt install python-gtk2
    sudo apt --fix-broken install

      PCs are almost 100% efficient at turning electricity into heat, so it's no worse from a cost perspective, either!

        If they use electric heating. If they use gas or other heating, it may be less cost efficient.

          Generally I use electricity to heat an oil based radiator for just my office and turn down the gas based central heating to about 15.5C for the rest of the house. But since my wife and kid are home during the day right now it's set to 19C all the time. Normally wouldn't run the radiator at that temp, I'll probably have to turn off Folding come summer as I don't have central AC.

    Something I've found very fun to notice is that in June 2019, Folding had a total capacity of about 98.747 PetaFLOPS.

    Thing is, if I turn on my RTX2080, that number changes to 98.757. That's a pretty significant change in my book. Right now the number probably is a multitude of that, but I felt like pointing it out.

    For the record: make sure your overclocks are 110% stable, else you'll get errors and can't finish your WU. Turn them off if you want to be sure.

          Sadly, I think all they did was implement some static caching on the stat page... because even though you can now view the stats without getting a Bad Gateway or Gateway Timeout, the stats it shows aren't up to date and haven't actually been updated in almost 24 hours now. :(

          Edit: Even the direct API query results are way behind now, it seems:

            I want to get on a team and can't receive a passcode. I'm sure they're not a priority, I just would like to know if it's a known issue. :)

            Yes we are aware of this issue! We are currently working to ensure servers remain active, and as we get a better foothold of our traffic this will get better. In the meantime, we know people have received their passcodes/passkeys not too long after requesting one, so we appreciate your patience! Thank you so much for your support, and for spreading the word about FAH!

                  I've been chronicling my attempts to get the Radeon VII working as well, finally got F@H to recognize it, but GROMACS is exiting w/ a fault. Probably they're using clFFT for the PME solve :/
                  The 10 Gb connection in Austin seems to have helped me pull down WU's at a good rate as well (looks like I have the most complete on the team!)

                  My only regret -- I didn't splurge for one of the 32-core 2nd gen 'rippers that I have at work :P

      p.s. Though speaking of... when you click the homepage link on the tildes team stats page it currently goes to https://stats.foldingathome.org/tildes.net instead of https://tildes.net. A bunch of other team homepage links work just fine though, (e.g.)... but I think you need to actually include the https:// part in order for it to work properly. So is there any chance you could fix that, @minimaltyp0s?

      I have had decent luck getting new Work Units by idling then un-idling my GPU Folding slot. Whereas if I just leave it to automatically reconnect it seems to continuously fail for me.

      Some of the interesting highlights IMO: Awesome! Also, cc @arghdos:

      Some of the interesting highlights IMO:

      How many new users have come online since announcement of the COVID-19 projects? How does this compare to the usual number of active users (pre-COVID)?

      We had about 30K users before the pandemic started. In the past two weeks, 400K volunteers have joined Folding@home

      How much computing power (FLOPs) has the project accumulated over the last month?

      We estimated we had upwards of about 100 petaFLOPS before the pandemic started, and since then we've expanded by about 10X so....a lot! We are still trying to quantify as our userbase and community rapidly expands.

      Awesome! Also, cc @arghdos:

      Is there any chance of an open source client being released? I would be much more comfortable using OSS considering the nature of the software.

      Just copying u/Greg-Bowman-FAH's reply to a related question, which notes that YES, we are working on an open source client that will be released soon!

      https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/flgm7q/ama_with_the_team_behind_foldinghome_coronavirus/fkyj4oj/

      The No WU's available message currently translates to: "We're overloaded with requests, try again and we'll get you an assignment as soon as possible."

      Do you need help from other scientists on your infrastructure? Specifically, particle physicists who have experience doing massive data management and processing as part of the Large Hadron Collider etc? It sounds like you're having infrastructure issues, where there's a group of us who might be able to help resource and engineer wise since we are often at the extremes of big scientific data. Are there places that teams of competent research software engineers, for example, could plug in to help?

      rafwiewiora - It would be amazing to have a longer conversation about this! Can you DM me and we'll talk over email?

    Does anyone here have any experience with CUDA under Linux causing their CPU to have 100% usage?

    I have both my current AMD card and my old Nvidia card installed, and F@H keeps my CPU at a 100% even though the GPU is getting used (checked from nvidia-smi)

    Other CUDA tools like Blender also seem to do this, so I don't think it's F@H's fault.

    My AMD card with OpenCL don't use much CPU (after the initial compile), so I have no idea what's going on. Maybe the drivers are conflicting somehow?

      A couple thoughts:

      Yes, both cards can be utilized for Folding@home. Each GPU card will be given a separate Work Unit to process. In the older v6 client, adding the ā€œ-gpu Nā€ flag (N starts at 0) would tell the client which GPU to use for folding. In the newer V7 client, the installer should automatically detect a multi-GPU setup and will configure itself to use them. Sometimes it has difficulties with mixed brands of GPUs. When this happens, our Guide pages may be helpful.

      To adjust the configuration, change V7 to advanced mode using the drop-down menu in the upper right-hand corner, then under Configure -> Slots, edit the GPU slot and adjust the indicies. If you need help, consider posting in our Folding Support Forum.

      • If multiple programs are doing it, it sounds like it maybe something weird with your OpenCL setup. You should have an ICD installed (e.g., apt install ocl-icd-dev).

      With that said, I've yet to see my Radeon VII pick up any work. When I launch F@H, my log says:

      19:43:34:WU01:FS01:0x22:ERROR:exception: Error initializing context: clGetDeviceIDs (-1)

      and I get a bunch of errors like this:

      19:47:57:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from '18.218.241.186:80': No WUs available for this configuration
      19:47:57:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Exception: Could not get an assignment

      when trying to get work units. If anyone's figured out how to get AMD cards working better, I'd love to hear it.

        No WUs available for this configuration
        Exception: Could not get an assignment

        I get that exact same series of errors repeatedly (as well as "WorkServer connection failed on port 8080 trying 80") even with my 980Ti, but if I idle then un-idle my GPU Folding Slot a few times until it finally connects properly to the assignment server, it usually manages to send me a Work Unit. So that issue may have more to do with their assignment servers being overloaded than anything AMD/OpenCL specific.

          Enable SMP [true]:
          Enable GPU [true]:
          Name of configuration file [config.xml]:

          Then I edited config.xml, to manually add GPU/OpenCL slot, e.g:

          <config>
            <!-- Configuration file created by FAHClient on 2020-03-19T05:56:41Z -->
            <user value='arghdos'/>
            <team value='238330'/>
            <passkey value=''/>
            <smp value='true'/>
            <gpu value='true'/>
            <!-- Folding Slots -->
            <slot id='0' type='CPU'/>
            <slot id='1' type='GPU'/>
          </config>

          Finally, I ran as a regular user (which I know clinfo works under):

          $ FAHClient --config=config.xml

          and boom, OpenCL support on Linux for AMD.

          Of course, it failed the first work-package it got:

          06:01:25:WU01:FS01:0x22:Folding@home GPU Core22 Folding@home Core

          but, progress!

          Still no idea why the service can't get OpenCL access -- I tried adding the fahcontrol user to the video group, but no dice. Probably something in how the service is started?

            Awesome job, and progress indeed. Out of curiosity, have you tried to get in touch with the F@H devs directly at all to see if they could help you out (or you could help them out, as the case may be)?

              Definitely my next step -- or, right after seeing if I can LD_PRELOAD a local GROMACS build I know will work on my card :p

          Gotcha, I'm still seeing clGetDeviceIDs errors though: 23:01:57:WU01:FS01:0x22:Folding@home GPU Core22 Folding@home Core 23:01:57:WU01:FS01:0x22:Version 0.0.2...

          which is silly, because if I test in shell, clinfo returns my Radeon VII just fine :P

        You should get yourself a passkey... it'll seriously increase your points. My 980Ti is almost quadrupling your PPD with one.

      Stats were down for maintenance a bit ago, but they're back now and seem to be updating properly again. We're at #2644 as of a few min ago, so still climbing! Screenshot:...

    Are team stats broken? I haven't been able to get Folding@home's page working, and the alternate page is reading 0's across the board no matter what time period I select.

      Yeah, their stats page is broken at the moment. It took me like 100+ attempts to get past the "Bad Gateway/Gateway Timeout" last time I tried 11 hours ago. I grabbed a screenshot though:...

          FYI, your score increases dramatically from bonus points, only available if you have a passkey. Having a passkey automatically makes you get more points anyway.
