Do you have any favourite WoW Classic meme/weird builds?

I'm going to start playing WoW Classic Hardcore when it comes out of PTR, and I was wondering if any WoW players on Tildes has particularly fun meme-y builds that you've tried in Classic.

Zaniest thing I ever did was prot pally with balance druid healing them. Load the pally up with improved thorns and keep them alive. Use ret aura, shield spike, holy shield, and any other damage return you can find. Places with tons of melee enemies will just melt. Doesn't scale very well into the 50s though.

I did this in TBC classic, just with no druid duo. I'd do a dungeon and regularly top the damage meter, it was pretty fun. Running into caster mobs while leveling was awful though.

I don't know if this counts as a meme build, but in Hardcore it is nice to be priest or paladin and go around giving buffs and helping people while remaining in character, praising the Light and being an overall naive, well meaning, religious fundamentalist dude.

People used to be very open to spontaneous roleplay in unofficial Hardcore, I'm not sure if that will remain the same given that official HC servers will probably not be RP.

    Good vibes.

DPS Smite Priest, if you can get to around level 40 you are unkillable at level (first round, I was solo farming DM from level 50-60). They call it smite priest, but the actual trick is a crazy boosted Holy Nova, you want spirit, spellpower, and int gear.

At level 60 you can hop into a group of elites and burn them all down and come out with full health and mana if you do it right . . . it is the cockroach of classic (more survivable than a pally by far, mainly due to a much more robust CC and the instant heals you can throw at yourself).

Oh I never said fast, I said unkillable . . . slow as hell to kill elites, but pretty easy to do.

Interesting, something like this? I never played vanilla, but leveled a paladin in TBC classic. I'm toying with the idea of coming back for the official HC release, but we'll see.

(More like this)[https://www.wowhead.com/classic/talent-calc/priest/250230130505151-205051-5] And once you get the spirit gear you take the points of the Spirit Tap and put it in Searing Light.

This is getting a bit specific, but there was a fun trick you could do as a Night Elf Priest in PVP arenas a bit similar to the old NE Hunter nuking people out of stealth, but funnier (although a bit less directly effective). When in stealth, you could cast Mind Control. This tended to be quite hilarious in Arathi Basin with the elevation changes between the capture points - you could guard the top one and whenever anyone tried to cap it, just use MC and have them self-yeet off the cliff.

EDIT2: I realize that this build was only possible in an older version, you might be able to get the gist of it and work around it to make something similar.

In OG BC we ran into an interesting problem as my MT prot paladin got geared up with uncrushable stats and would go back to do lower content. I wasn’t taking enough damage on trash to warrant heals and as a result, I’d run out of mana.

I fixed the problem by using some pieces of spell power gear and tanking with a fish in my hand. I took damage, received heals, didn’t run out of mana.

Before we got to a boss encounter, I’d swap the pieces back out for tank gear and put on my sword and board. It was a great fix for mana dependent threat generation challenges on trash mobs and probably the oddest set I ever utilized playing wow.

Aside from having no taunt whatsoever, Protection had a whole ten talent points (Redoubt and Reckoning) that were useless once you hit the Defense cap.

Classic talent trees and classes were so badly designed that itemizing your Paladin tank to not take a whopping 200% (or one-shot levels of) damage from a boss actually hindered your ability to become uncrushable.

I really hope that for the next Classic season, Blizzard actually make some changes to Vanilla's overall balance, since we're well past the #NoChanges barrier at this point.

I really just want to get off the #NoChanges train and into the #ChangesThatFitTheSpiritOfClassic one. Classic should be a philosophy, not a time capsule, imho.

I would love to see "classic wow: remade" with the essence of Classic as a philosophy.

The difficulty, the lore and immersion. The need to team and up and communicate. It felt like a live action DnD campaign that I simply cannot get in newer MMOs.

I feel crazy when I say to my friends that the eras of early MMOs (WoW, SWG, EverQuest) just sort of "Hit Different".

I don't know if we'll really see that style of game exist again. I don't know if it really can exist again with the way games have evolved. (Quality of life). Since some of those aspects are in direct competition with the philosophy of classic.

Completely agree. Blizzard aren't great grand storytellers. Even ignoring the complete tragedy of a story that was SLs, DF isn't that good either, especially to the night elves. But the world of classic was amazing. It so huge, it had some many little stories, and it was so dangerous. Finding a green, or a bag, felt amazing. Steeping out of a kobold cave alive (particularly in HC) was such a rush.

And there's space for new things in that world. Hyjal and Gilneas were always there's waiting to be explored. The Silvermoon Remnants were an Alliance faction at one point. I would love to see devs take tentative steps towards adding things into the game, but I suspect they won't want to risk it.

We did some premades and I was basically a dedicated WSG banana defender. It was fucking awesome lol. Damage weaving with it I could crank out 500 DPS at 39, and with trap mastery I could solo pod warriors. They needed to team push it (we banned faps)... Such a joke lol.

39 feral druid twink who played far too much AB... there's a BOP leather armor, ~4% drop rate, on some miniboss in a dungeon. Can't remember the name, but i'd stealth in there cat form to kill the one miniboss. Must've done it 60 times before it finally dropped!

And before they patched it, you could have a level 60 use armor enchants on lower level gear and trade back to you. I had the most absurd twink going... virtually unkillable with bear, fastest pre-40 with cheetah, stealth with cat, could even chill underwater with sealion.

My PoD crits were almost 1k, and surv gets 30% raptor strike crit chance. It was such a joke lol. Damage weaving with shadowforge bushmaster, the bis gun, and PoD the bis 2h wep for any class, was silly to say the least.

They ended up disabling the enchants in WotLK and that's basically when I left the twinking scene.

Main DPSing and healing 5 man's in WotLK and Burning Crusade with my Spriest bouncing PoM between myself and the tank with SW:D. Geared up a lot of people's alts with that.
