Last week I picked up Dredge on sale. Typically I am more into multiplayer games but something about the setting and art style was interesting to me so I had to try it out. I didn't mind the quick time events while catching fish and the fast passage of time really created some tension. Overall, I highly recommend it to those who just have it wishlisted.
My only criticism is that there could have been more to do post-story. I could fully upgrade everything, sure; but there aren't any new areas to explore so there isn't a ton of incentive. Though, I guess its a good thing when you want to continue playing and unlocking things. Hopefully some dlc/expansions are announced because I would definitely get them.

I need to give it another shot, I think. A friend recommended it and pitched it as "Lovecraftian fishing", which had me sold right away. But I found the gameplay itself kind of boring and the story a little slow to get going. I've kept it installed, so eventually I'll try again. Maybe I just wasn't in the right headspace for a slower game at the time.

I've put a few hours in myself and I started off playing it super safe, only really going out in broad daylight and never venturing too far from a port. The game gets a lot more intense and terrifying when you start getting more bold and exploring beyond what seems safe. I strongly recommend exploring in the dark, it really enhances the mood of the game.

I've been wanting to pick it up since it released, but this is how I suspected it would end-up going for me. I fell for the Cult of the Lamb hype and while it's not at all a bad game, it just wasn't for me and I got bored after about 2-hours. Dredge strikes me as pretty similar (along with Dave the Diver which everyone was talking about a week ago) where the setting and theme are pretty interesting, but the gameplay ends-up being very shallow (pun intended?) and just doesn't hold my interest.
Again, seems like a neat game, but nothing for me to really sink my teeth into and wrestle with.
It was good at what it set out to be: a fishing game with some Lovecraftian theme on top, some spooky horror if you stayed out too late at night, and some lore. I can understand why someone who...
It was good at what it set out to be: a fishing game with some Lovecraftian theme on top, some spooky horror if you stayed out too late at night, and some lore. I can understand why someone who only played the first few hours would grow bored; it found better footing once you could get out past the central island and explore the other four areas. But to it's core and till the credits roll it was still a fishing game and that's not everyone's cup of tea. Much more of a "lean back" game than a "lean in" game. Played flawlessly on the Steam Deck.

Put my thoughts in on it a while back on a "what's playing" thread:
Looking back on it a few months later, I still think it holds up as a great example of "doing more with less". The gameplay was "satisfying" - I liked how even though the "core mechanic" of "catch fish" was pretty constant, there were enough different and novel ways of doing that (nets, crab pots, etc.) that it made planning for your next "outing" and how you would maximize your haul pretty fun.
The thing that really stuck with me, though, was the story. I still remember a lot of the individual characters on the various islands and how they all tied together to "build the world" the game is in was just really special.
I will definitely be keeping an eye on that studio to see what they make next.
Thanks for the reminder, picked this up during the Summer Sale and conpletely forgot about it! I thought Lovecraftian Fishing would hook me in (lol) but I guess distraction is a powerful thing.

four artifacts that you need to find.
It also starts out very spooky (to me), and continues less so. For me, this was perfect, but I can see how it could disappoint people who are more into horror. I still had a lot of fun playing it, and I feel like it was worth the price.
I very much enjoy fishing and lovecraftian horror, so it was a no brainer for me. Unfortunately I'm currently addicted to bg3 so I'll have to pick the game up again after. I got about 30% in I'd say

My main concern was how "real" the threat is? In subnautica things are scary at first, but honestly if you're half decent at the game you're never in danger (and i'd kill for a hard mode for that reason because it would do a lot to give the game more replay value). I was getting similar vibes from dredge, but I didn't play long enough to really find out.

What are your thoughts on DREDGE?
They do have a dlc planned iirc!
I think you’re right. I saw something about a dev comment somewhere about wanting to do that but I couldn’t find a formal mention anywhere.

Too repetitive to me. I very much like the idea, but I played a few hours and very quickly become bored.
Thats just my personal opinion, nothing more.
I totally get that. I definitely had to push through the gameplay loop a couple times. I think the atmosphere was what brought me back.

Dave the Diver ended up being what I wanted DREDGE to be. Dave was more comedic, but the gameplay was exactly up my alley.
